Romo-Haters

Considering how much heat Romo gets for various shortcomings, I would like to see if any of these qb's might be more appealing as the Dallas starter.  Myself, I cast my ballot for Romo.

Vince Young???

you got to be kidding me? I think you could have named several other QB that are much better than him, including Roethlisberger, Hasselbeck, Campbell, Bulger, Brees, and Palmer.

ATX

I’m here in Austin. Vince Young is the only qb they ever talk about down here. Gives me a warped perspective of the world. Plus, I wasn’t trying to use qb’s that are as establised as those you mentioned (Campbell excluded).

VY

He isn’t the best guy in that draft class, I would rather have Cutler.

Why?

VY was ROY in ‘06, and he led the Titans to the playoffs in ‘07. What has Cutler done???

anyone who knows football

can see that Young is a bigger of Michael Vick, great athletic ability, no talent as a passer. Cutler has all the tools to be a good one, while Young lacks too many skills to be good.

He won ROY because he’s a media darling, just like Vick was. Both enormously overrated as QBs.

I understand that maybe Cutler has the tools to be a good QB

but as of right now, VY has had more success. If you were to compare their accomplishments as of this very moment, VY is the better QB. Although, let’s say that Cutler does have all the tools to be a good QB. VY has used the tools at his disposal, which are less than Cutler’s according to you, and has still gotten further. How would you rather have Cutler leading your team?

READ MY POST BELOW YOUR POST

The difference is the D. You can’t tell me you would rather have a QB who basically threw twice as many picks as TD’s?

VY has a tremendous defense behind him

Denver didn’t this year.
I love Young, but he’s not half the QB Cutler is right now. That’s not to say he can’t improve.

by BudLight on Jul 4, 2008 12:13 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I understand everyone repeating his touchdown to interception ratio

however, that doesn’t diminish what he’s accomplished. He has lead his team to the playoffs despite that. VY has found a way to win even with a poor arm and through a lot of interceptions. Why would you rather have Cutler than a guy like that? Just doesn’t make sense to me.

...

This is the biggest team sport there is.. one guy doesnt win it or lose it… VY didnt win, didnt take the titans to the playoffs, or wasnt the reason they made it to .500. Stellar Defense is.

More like the Titans have found a way to win despite Young

I think Young can be a good QB, and he had a good rookie year, but he was one of the worst QBs in the league last year. That team won on defense, period. But hey, he was under the Madden curse. I expect him to have a bigger year this year.

All that said, Cutler is looking the best of that draft class, and Mario Williams (shockingly) was the best pick at #1 after all…

by grapejoos on Jul 4, 2008 2:54 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'll tell you the kind of guy I'd want.

I’d want a guy that had the toughness to will his team forward despite suffering from the symptoms of untreated diabetes and still manage to have a pretty solid season. If that team had a running game or a defense, they would have been a playoff team. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d have no problem having a guy with that blend of talent and toughness leading my team.

by Mandmeisterx on Jul 6, 2008 10:44 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

because Young can't throw the football

accurately or read defenses very well, Cutler can.

I feel you on VY

But why does everyone hate on Vick so much? Vick was a monster, and an above average passer. He didnt have anyone who could get open until the last 2 years of his career. When he got some guys that could, they dropped a combined 40 something balls a season.

And why does everyone discredit his rushing yards? Yeah its unconventional but do his runs not move the chains? On 3rd and 6 does a 7 yard run not count the same as a seven yard pass?

For example, in 2006 Vick threw for 2,474 yards/ 20 TD and rushed for 1039 yards/ 2 TD.

To me thats just 3,513 yards. That puts him in the top 10 for that season.

He’s not Peyton or Brady but he was always a top 10 type of guy.

by GloryDayz88 on Jul 4, 2008 12:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Vick was never an above average passer

Vick was a horrendous passer, one of the worst I’ve ever seen.

VICK

I loved to watch Vick play, but he would have a couple passes a game that made you say what was that.

Even with his short comings he was one the top half when you rank QB’s. He found ways to get it done.

by Wmillion on Jul 5, 2008 9:16 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

As bad has Vick looked

Excluding his rookie season were he started 2 games and threw 2 tds and 3 ints. He has never thrown more picks then touchdowns.

It is shame Vick was starting to progress and his WR’s were coming around..

yeah he was fun to watch

but I would never want him qbing the Cowboys, thats for sure.

yeah

it was fun to watch him get stiffed arm by DWARE!

by thebigham on Jul 5, 2008 9:42 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

it was also fun ...

to watch him report to jail instead of training camp…..i’ll also be fun to watch him file bankruptcy after signing a 110 million $ contract….oh yeah it’ll also be fun to see what the state charges him with after he gets out of the fed. pen….and it will be wild to see if the nfl commish. lets him back in the league after betting on illegal sports, which we all know calls for a life time ban….the best will be watching him working at the car wash, you know the brother at the front with the brush because he’s to stupid to work the back…

Hmm...

You are telling me you would want Vince Young throwing to T.O. 10 times a games? The guy threw 17 ints and only 9 TD’s?

As for the playoffs Vince Young Defense was ranked 5th and gave up 297 points, Denver 409 Points and ranked 19th. Big Difference.

Vince Young had a good rookie season and then regressed.

"You can't win until you're not afraid to lose"

by Wmillion on Jul 3, 2008 3:54 PM CDT   0 recs

Would you want any of the receivers on the Titans?

Granted, doesn’t excuse Young’s regression last year but long-term I think it benefits him as it’s taught him that he can’t rely on athletics alone…if he didn’t learn then he’s in danger of becoming the next Culpepper/Leftwich.

by Taylor on Jul 3, 2008 6:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

give me

Roydell Williams and Paul Williams( I like Paul because he is from my Alma Malter)- I think Roydell has a future, but Vince regression is hurting his progression.

by Wmillion on Jul 3, 2008 6:41 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

i'm sure vince...

would give them to you in exchange for a chance to play w/ TO, Terry Glenn, Crayton, or Witten…heck even Hurd…

...and to excuse that the Titan’s defense led them to the playoffs…didn’t the poll ask who you would have on the Cowboys??? I think our defense is better than the Titans, so if he could take them to the playoffs w/ their defense, what do you think he could do w/ our defense and our receivers? At UT, he had a solid suporting cast in ‘05, and he beat the college equivalent of the Patriots (USC). I think he would be great if Coach Fisher and the GM’s would throw him a freakin’ bone…and no, Alge Crumpler does not count.

by vy til i die on Jul 4, 2008 3:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

exactly

My response was he was the 4th person on the list I would select. I would take Jay Cutler over him in a heartbeat.

Maybe this year

The Cowboys might have a better defense, but you definitely couldn’t say that last year.

Romo's just got it....

his #s say it all…...

rite out the gate he looked like he knew what he was doin & looked good doin it.
as a longhorn fan, I”ll take VY after Romo, I”ve seen the same kind of will to win. For the sake of discussion, imagine VY standing tall behind our line & running game, not 2 mention T.O., I dont think id be mad about that lineup.

by bleedn blu on Jul 3, 2008 6:58 PM CDT   1 recs

I'll take Eli and Phillip over VY

VY is 4th out of the 4!!

Comparisons

Comparisons between Manning and Rivers should be an interesting story to follow throughout their careers. Even though Manning has the ring, I still think Rivers will out perform him when all is said and done. But Romo will outperform both :)

WR/TE

San Diego’s WR/TE core could be something special. Top 5 core for sure..

Serious?

I know the off-season is boring, but is this poll a joke? I simply cannot fathom how anyone would want Young or Rivers to lead our Cowboys over Romo. Perhaps the Manning argument has a grain of salt to it – barely, because of the ring – but come on.

If we’re going to take a poll about Romo, let’s at least include his peers: Brady, Peyton Manning, and perhaps Roethlisberger, Palmer and Brees.

by Cowboy Louie on Jul 3, 2008 9:55 PM CDT   0 recs

Come on i see people defending VY like he’s anygood. Yes hes won but this is a team game so winning doesnt mean the QB is good and losing doesnt mean the QB is bad. As always ill use the trent dilfer example come on he didnt win that superbowl he just didnt lose it. Romo is an elite QB so why is this poll trying to compare him to “third tier” guys.

Manning?

Who the hell voted for Manning? I hope that was a joke.

The thing I dont get is. Manning was the first pick in the 2004 draft right? Romo was undrafted right?

Then why does everyone measure Romo with the Peyton Manning/ Tom Brady measuring stick. When Manning gets measured with that weak Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson (with the Bucs) “game manager” measuring stick.

Its ridiculous how much love Manning has been gettin for not crashing the plain during the playoffs. Wow, he went 4 games without a disastrous one, good job.

If Romo played a stretch of games like that, they would say the Cowboys won despite Romo. And if Manning had a statistical year like Romo had last year, they would have crowned him king.

And I dont for a second think the Giants are a better team because they were better one of the three times we played them. And Im not sure they were better that day.
