NFL Schedules
It's kind of funny reading how the Cowboys are facing a "brutal NFL schedule" this year, and that Romo is already being put under the spotlight as a result.
Can anyone here remember an NFL season since the salary cap came into being where over half the "tough" teams actually turned out to have good seasons? The Cowboys are one Romo/TO injury away from facing mediocrity. Remember how much the Rams sucked last year, in a year when they were supposed to be so amazing? On the flip side, where the hell did the Saints come from 2 years ago and what happened last year?
I think the NFL above all professional sports illustrates that anything can happen (don't mutter "any given Sunday", it reminds me of that GAWD AWFUL MOVIE) when you play the game. Maybe that's one reason I love this game so much. Your team only plays 16 (plus playoffs) times in an entire year, and anything can happen?
As you can tell, I've had no coffee this morning...

Good Question
I know Pat Kirwam from NFL radio says there is an average of 5 new playoff teams every year. So strength of schedule going in to the season is tough to determine.
One thing we know is our Division plays us tough every game no matter there schedule and we are also playing a division that under achieved. My gut says we will be in a lot of dog fights.

who predicted the Rams to be amazing last season?
To the best of my recollection, everyone predicted the Rams to stink in 2008, which they did.
The Saints were only favored last season because they played in the NFC Championship game, but people should realize, they’re still the Saints.
Sure, there will be surprise teams, but I also remember the Pats being heavy favorites last season and they went undefeated.

The Rams as the NFC champs was a popular preseason pick last year,
and rightfully so. They had a stacked offense and an improving defense. Of course it’s tough to be competitive when your whole starting line practically goes on IR, as well as a couple of key backups. This is still a good team if they are healthy this year. That D really came on at the end of last year. I don’t think they did enough in the draft to get better, but they could still be a shocker.

Yeah, I saw some Rams super bowl predictions
I also saw 2 years worth of them for Miami. Preseason is hard to judge. I think all you can really tell with some degree of accuracy is which divisions will be tough, so I think you do have some ability to see how tough a schedule will be on that basis. But it is true that the schedule is never exactly as tough or easy as it looks before the season starts.

Division Schedule
Our divisional schedule is hard enough. It seems to be the unanimous choice for toughest division among the sports media. We just need to hold serve in the NFC East, avoid an injury to Romo or T.O., and the rest will take care of itself.
By the way, Ghost, I liked Any Given Sunday. The media pans every football movie that’s produced. As the media is predominantly populated with baseball fans, they fawn all over baseball movies, but you’ll never find one about football that they like. Give me football, and they can have their fields of dreams.

It is one of the things I love about football
is the general level of parity and the fact that upsets do happen fairly regularly. Really bad teams can win, and really good teams can lose. A reason why the Pats’ season was so remarkable (except for the superbowl). And even as dominant as they were, they almost got beat in weeks 12 and 13 by a couple middling teams, Philly and Baltimore, and against a backup QB no less with Philly. So it is impossible to predict from game to game, much less project a whole season. Anything can happen, especially when injuries come into play.
