Hard Knocks Distractions

Read the following on another website today:

"...from all the people I have spoken with throughout my workdays who have seen the Cowboys practice or have been involved in practice, this entire Hard Knocks thing has been a huge distraction from attention to detail. They have to stop drills to get the camera set up, they have pay close attention to how it looks for TV and in general, it has been a pain."

I haven't seen this from any of the Dallas media covering camp.  Everybody has speculated that this could be the case but certainly we were all hoping it wouldn't be.

Dallas media

You’re right, I’ve been following all the media pretty closely, from the Bluestar/DC.com folks, DMN and S-T, including the former players like Irvin and Newton, and I haven’t heard any of them really comment on this being a problem. And of course Grizz and Shango were there in person and I don’t recall them commenting on it being any kind of problem like this. If anything, it seems like after the first day or two, the cameras just kind of blended into the scenery and were pretty much ignored. And I haven’t heard anyone mention anything about it interrupting the drills for set up, etc. I would think if this was an issue, it would certainly have been brought up by all the various media covering it closely. So I would say this source is suspect….

Cameras in the way

I didn’t see or haven’t heard anything about the drill having to stop to get cameras set up. Now I do remember last week one of the assistant coaches on a blocking sled telling a camera guy to get out of the way.

this hard knocks crap is just adding to the pressure

couple that with TO, Pacman, Romo and jessica simpson, jerry jones and watch dallas crack under the pressure.

Sounds like wishful thinking for you?

When Favre went to the Jets, the ESPN commentary I heard said that the only place with greater media attention might be Dallas. It comes with the territory. The operative expression is: “same crap, different day”

I agree with Zak, distractions and pressure are part of being a professional athlete. The 90s Cowboys were a media circus – especially during their last SB year… and still managed to get it done.

Pint, it’s now almost 2 years since TO’s last “issue” (the overdose)... since then he’s been a choir boy. And doubting Romo means ignoring his 365 work ethic. Pacman is un-proven, but if I were a betting man, I’d say he follows TO’s path to maturity.

This team is not about to get derailed by petty crap… everyone that follows the Cowboys knows this is our year.

Tar Heels football will surprise this year

The thing about distractions and pressure is this

THEY DO NOT AFFECT PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES!

You get distracted if you’re in college ball by some nice trim or you feel pressure when you married.

I never buy distractions, it is all just media fodder

First I've heard of this.

I’m sure a buncha bloggers including Grizz and the gang woulda mentioned Hard Knocks being a pain for the coaches/team.

It’s a reality show, meant to provide behind-the-scenes looks. I really don’t think HBO totes enough bravado to slow down a Dallas Cowboys practice unless one of the players trips over a battery cord or somethin.

That #38 sure can hit!

On the field, during actual practice

the cameras weren’t in the way, no one had to stop or delay drills for the HBO camera crew, Every once in a while a coach would tell a camera guy to move, but it was very rare and took all of two seconds for the guy to move. These reports are bogus for on the field. How it effects the meetings, and other things we couldn’t see, i can’t say.
