Wade fired after tonight?
Let's say we go out tonight and lay a total egg in all three phases and lose like 30-10. Everyone who has been saying "don't press the panic button" will instantly press the panic button. Including Jerry
Yes, it would be "crazy." But if the team continues to undisciplined, Jerry might not wait until the end of a mediocre season to make the change. And here's how he could do it:
1) Fire Wade, Stewart, and Read. Remember...all of the coaching staff, save for these three, are "Jerry guys." The rest of the staff has more Jerry connections than Wade connections.
2) Promote Garrett to HC.
3) Promote Camp to DC, hire Dom Capers as defensive assistant. Remember, Garrett wanted to do this in the offseason, but Steward vetoed it.
4) Call Joe Avezzano to run special teams.
Again...this will only be possible if the team just plays awful tonight. But Jerry won't sit around and wait for a 9-7 season out of loyalty to Wade. Nor should he.

Jerry Has Made Mistakes Before
But he’s not so totally out of touch with reality as to can key members of his staff over meaningless preseason games, regardless of how bad they look tonight. That would be uttlerly insane.

Interesting
This sort of reminds me of the situation following the firing of Jimmy Johnson. In interviews conducted with the players, they consisently said that their level of play went down as the season progressed. Switzer was just not a good coach. It took the leaders of the team, Aikman, Smith, and The Playmaker to lead the team back to the SB the following season.
Forward to the beginning of last season: Hardass Tuna leaves. The play of the team went down as the season progressed, and they played their worst games at the end of the season.
Things don’t look too good today either. The team looks sloppy. But, it is pre-season. I may end up thinking that Wade needs to go, but I just don’t know if I could justify it based on pre-season performance. I don’t think there is any chance of your scenario playing out, but it is interesting to think about.

But if you'll remember
We also had our famous “December swoon” during Parcells final season….as a matter of fact we backed into the playoffs that year before laying an egg in Seattle. You can’t blame our lackluster finishes on Wade….It was also a problem under Tuna.
I think this is really silly. No way Jerry tears down this coaching staff over a bad pre-season showing! This team is destined for the Super Bowl….anything less will be a disappointment. This is a VERY talented team….Hell even switzer could coach this group into the playoffs….

Just wow...
We’re talking about the preseason. We’re talking about games that our offensive and defensive playbooks are as vanilla as Vanilla Ice eating ice cream in a snow storm.
Do you think Cutler lights us up the way he did, if Stewart didn’t catch so much crap for blitzing the Broncos last year in the preseason? We didn’t blitz AT ALL in that game. I’m thinking nobody on their team can contain Ware, and he would have eaten that team alive.
This is the most knee-jerk reaction I’ve read in a long time. Once our playbook is opened up, our offense is going to be a juggernaut. Once our defensive play calling is opened up, our secondary is going to look the way we think they should.
IT’S THE PREASEASON. The Colts went 0-4 in the preseason the year they won the Super Bowl. Last year the Bears and Falcons went 3-1 in the preseason. The Giants were 1-3, and oh yea they took home the Lombardi.
It’s the preseason….
Oh and by the way, Capers is currently under the employment of the Patriots.

Don't be crazy
There is no way Wade will be or should be fired if we lay a complete egg tonight! Remember last year we played the Texans in the dress rehearsal game, and their first team out played us by a long shot. Everyone was afraid it was going to be a long season, then we go 13-3. Though this is a dress rehearsal I think we still wont show a whole lot.

Wow, just wow.
Am I really reading this FanPost correctly?
by Dave Halprin on Aug 22, 2008 12:50 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
thats just ridiculous
to fire a HC in preseason is simply beyond moronic. Wade will coach this team through 2008 no matter what happens. 2009 is a completely different story but Jerry would probably die laughing if he read this post.

Is this Fanpost just to brew controversy? To get attention?
The whole point about preseason is to take the positives out of the game and look at the negatives.
I’ve said it before and will say it again: By halftime of the Cleveland game, everybody associated with or fans of the Dallas Cowboys will not even care about preseason record—no matter if the team goes 0-100.
C’mon, get real.
That #38 sure should wrap up!

let me clarify
Yes, the headline was sensationalist. Notice…I’m saying this is only even possible IF the team plays like dog crap tonight in all three phases, which I don’t expect to happen. I’m saying if we lose big, get lots of penalties, look disorganized and tackle poorly.
I don’t think that’s likely to happen. I’m saying if it DOES happen, the slack that Wade has been cut for “vanilla schemes” and “it’s preseason” will suddenly get a lot less.

Nothing will guarantee a miserable season
Faster than firing the head coach and DC on the eve of the regular season. You can’t do that in football. This isn’t the NHL. Coaching continuity is critical.
Also, Dom Capers may be surprised to get a call since he is employed by the Patriots (unless I somehow dreamt that whole sequence).

I wont even ask
how Campo (a 4-3 guy) is supposed to be the DC for a 3-4 scheme.

Worst... FanPost... Ever...
Ugh… Really?
Even with some of the off-the-wall decisions Jerry has made in the past, this is completely unrealistic…

Isn't Capers working for NE?
Also, I liked it better when Cowboys daydreaming focused on acquisition of a No. 1 WR that we could line up as a No. 2 WR .

Pats are 0-3
Time to fire Belichek and staff. They should cut Brady to send a message to the younger guys. Maybe we could bring him for a look at backup QB?

So...
Does Wade get an extension since the 1st team O and D looked good? I hope the ST coach didn’t buy a house in Dallas.
The Team is feeling the effects of the injuries. B James in coverage is not what you want.. They may have to role with B carp and Zach in coverage until Burnett comes back..
