Kyle Kosier and Isaiah Stanback to get MRI's for injuries
Cowboys injury report from the DMN blog.
LG Kyle Kosier (right foot) and WR/KR Isaiah Stanback (left shoulder) will have MRIs done tomorrow to determine the severity of their injuries.
Kosier, who played the first possession of the fourth quarter along with C Andre Gurode and RG Leonard Davis, had a protective boot on his foot in the locker room.
Stanback's shoulder popped out of its socket while he was trying to recover his fumble on a kick return. It's the same shoulder he hurt last season by running over Eagles K David Akers.
Wow, didn’t know about Kosier, I hope that’s not serious. I don’t trust our backups in the middle of the line.

sad
Just sad, both injuries stink, especially virtually meaningless game..
Amendola is basically a lock, but Horn may get his wish..

We will Need
Hurd, Bennett, and T Curt.. I like Bennett’s progression and seems like T Curt is always open..

Unfortunate
Hope Kosier’s injury is not serious, the starting O-line is playing great.
Stanback’s shoulder doesn’t sound very bad if it’s just separated.
No update on Watkins? He was limping even though he stayed in the game (kind of an unnecessary risk)

I disagree
He’s making progress and he’ll be given every opportunity to continue. Jerry and the coaching staff think very highly of him. Don’t be so quick to give up on him.

Grow into his body?
"Let the kid grow into his body" Huh? Stanback is not a kid, he is a 24 yr old grown up man. From a football standpoint, his body is the best part of him! The litany of excuses served up for Stanback is pretty amazing. Here is just a sampling:
- He is raw
- He hasn’t been given an opportunity
- He has been injured
- 2008 is really his rookie season (side note: I double checked the record – he was indeed drafted in 2007, not 2008. Honest.)
- And my personal favorite: Stanback was red shirted last season. Um, this is pro football, not college. (Even the Cowboys own website serves up this excuse!)
- Now I hear he needs to grow into his body.
Look, the guy has some talent as a kick returner, but hasn’t shown anything to make me think he will be a ‘special’ return guy. Here are his wide receiver lines since coming to Dallas:
2007 preseason: 3 receptions for 39 yards (I think one might have been a touchdown)
2007 season: zero receptions for zero yards
2008 preseason through three games: two catches for 13 yards.
Why are fans so convinced that Stanback is going to be a stud WR when he hasn’t done a doggone thing since he arrived here? To those fans that are of this opinion, I’m just curious as to when he will start parlaying his awesome athletic skill into being a productive NFL football player. 2009? 2010? 2011?
The injury is very unfortunate, but it’s not like he was on some hot streak like Miles Austin was before getting hurt. Two catches for 13 yards in three games. Ugh. It’s time a little reality set in regarding Isaiah Stanback. There is still room for hope and some optimism but at this point an honest, realistic evaluation of Stanback leads to the conclusion that he at best a long-shot to becoming a productive NFL wide receiver. And this nonsense about him taking over for TO as the stud #1 wr can just stop. That’s just silly talk. Let’s start that conversation after he has a 16 game season with about 50 catches, 1,000+ yards and 8-10 TD’s.

I love his athleticism
but he does seem pretty fragile.
by Billito on Aug 23, 2008 12:25 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Most WR take 3 years
Before they start being productive. Hell austin and Hurd haven’t done anything yet either…But no ones rushing to cut those guys. Hell austin had a terrible game against the Redskins last December….Dropped 2 SURE TOUCHDOWNS….now he’s everybodies pet cat.
On Stanbach…..Yes he was injured most of last year
He’s learning a new position
He is a RAW talent
He needs time to develope
It will probably be at least 2010 before he puts up any appreciable numbers….But that is no reason to give up on him so he can go star somewhere else (Jimmy Smith ….Anyone????)
Give him time….He’ll develope….and be productive. If we’d have listened to half the naysayers we’d have never invited austin back to camp this year after he laid an egg in washington last december. Everyone was saying that miles would not make the cut this year because he wouldn’t be able to count on his return abilities to make the team this year. Now all of the sudden he’s indispensible…..HaHaHa…..
We fans need to be a little less demanding and let our players develope. How many of you guys wanted M Spears traded or even cut last year? Now he’s putting together one heck of a pre-season and is much improved.
Patience guys….it is a virtue!

+1 TrueBlue.....
way too early to put a projection on Stanback…….His injury was legit, and was unavoidable, he got pile drived into the turf….Half you guy would be crying to mommy if you experienced that punishment…….I certainly wouldn’t call him fragile or injury prone….
I am one who looks beyond his limited numbers put up so far (oh btw, He looked pretty damn good in every play he has been able to be a part of)…I have reviewed every possible tape I can find on this guy, and I can clearly see why Jerry selected him….He WILL be a contributor to our team for several years to come…He does need to work on ball security, keeping it tucked a little tighter to his body, maybe switching to outside hand at proper times, and I’m sure he’s gotten better with route running, and will continue to progress….I have seen the progress, and I know he destined to be a dominant return man, and provide toughness, and grit…..He sort of runs like MBIII, and you can tell he has playmaking ability….I personally liken him to Anquan Boldin in his playing style….
IF he didn’t get injured early on last night, I am positive he would have continued to light it up with his stellar play…….so stop the nonsense that he hasn’t done anything yet, and he won’t amount to anything….Many here have seen his potential, and many are big supporters……It’s time to rally behind a speedy recovery, cuz he will be an integral part of our team for years to come…….
I will add to the fact that I was very soured by Austin play last season, and I would have bet he was fighting to make the team this camp….He has shown me what hard work and determination to get better can chance perception…..He has changed mine……I am now firmly in belief that Austin, as well as Stanback will be with us for years to come, and be a big part of our future…..It took Austin 3+ years to show what working hard can do for you…I am not saying he has completely transformed his game…But he has showed me signs that he can hold on to the ball……
Now can we least afford Stanback the same respect and patience, as well as 3+ years our other young receivers were given to progress and show their worth ???

Ok, maybe in 10 years Stanback
will show us something if he stops getting injured. Unfortunately, we can’t wait 5 years for him to show he can make the transition from QB to WR. The only thing he has shown to this point is that he has talent and he get’s injured often. That’s not enough to justify a roster spot ever year sorry….

Stanback's been here for a grand total of one year
a year where he was drafted as a project with an injury and not expected to show anything in his first year, ala Chris Canty. The key word is project, he’ll make the roster this year as the fifth receiver

I know that
next year is a different story. The way he is showing how fragile he is this may be his last. I would say alot depends on what he does this season if he is around next year. IMO, and I’ll stand by it, is that he will be nothing but a career special teamer either here or somewhere else. I’ll give him one more season after this one, but the way it’s going for him now that may be a long shot.

Ogelsby has outplayed him. Scandrick has CLEARLY outplayed him. So no, he would not have been the 3rd CB even without Pac and Jenkins. And thank god for it.

The secondary looked good
considering that they did not have T-new in the game, having scandrick and pac as upgrades over Nate Jones and Jaq R. showed and now we are starting to see what Wade was trying to do last year. When T-new gets is starting again it will be that much better of a secodary and turnovers will come.

Just finished reading open thread from the texan blog
man it is unreal how many post I saw talking about how much they hate dallas. To me the amount of hate is like the kind I have for our division rivals. When I get mad watching a game it is because Dallas made a mistake not because of who they are playing; but I hate Dallas losing to its rivals. I just find it refreshing to see the same amount of irrational fans exist for their team as ours; regardless of how they would like to see themselves.

So true
You would think we are arch rivals after reading their blog. I could care less about a team in another conference. They hate Dallas more than the teams in their own division. Maybe because they are cellar dwellers, they need something to channel their anger and hatred towards.

Cause it's cool to hate on the Cowboys
All the legit teams do it. Texans, and their fans, want to get in the club. Yup, it’s just that lame: want respect, then loudly trumpet your dislike for the ’Boys.
You know, on the plus side, they might only be the second-worst team in their division this year.

Hope both can recover quickly, there needed, not too worried bout Stanback, does"nt sound too bad, plus were good at his position. Kosier will be missed, our backup lineman still have to get better, guess thats why they were still in the game late.

If Jerry the GM is on top of his game....He'd be calling WR-David Kircus this morning...
Sure is a shame Stanback reinjured his shoulder……Hopefully it’s not a severe seperation…….4-6 weeks though…..put on the PUP list ? I think that needs to be done before came….I’d hate to lose him for the season on IR….the saga continues….We’ve been hit by a rash of injuries…

If you gotta have some injuries
I’ll take the kind we’re getting. With the exception of T-New, who said he’d be playing if the games were real anyway, we haven’t had any real injuries to key players. And nothing so far has been season ending. Dallas has been pretty damn lucky the last few years, for the most part, about avoiding bad injuries to key guys. I realize there have been some like Glenn, Ellis, Henry, etc. But overall I’ll take our luck as opposed to say, the Rams last year. It’s a violent sport.

On Stanback
The team site is saying shoulder subluxation. Thats not that bad.
I have dealt with that myself quite a few times when I was playing. I have more elasticity in my joints than I should so my shoulders sublux easily.
From my experience, he could play next week if he had to. But he should be ready to go by Week 1, he just wont be able to tackle anybody. Or its gonna pop out again.
by Carl Shelton (GloryDayz88) on Aug 23, 2008 4:43 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah and if he keeps doing that to the same shoulder
his ligaments turn into a rubber band. They never get strong and he will have that problem for the rest of his life. His shoulder will be prone to pop out.
