Kosier out six weeks
The injury bug seems to have bit our team in the behind once again.
The DMN Blog is reporting Kyle Kosier could miss up to six weeks with his injury.
Left guard Kyle Kosier could miss up to six weeks because of a sprained right foot and hairline fracture. Kosier left Texas Stadium in a walking boot.Joe Berger is the favorite to take over for Kosier.
This is tough news on several fronts as Grizz has pointed out. Our line looked dominant, cohesive and physical in Friday's game. Anything that messes up the chemistry of that group is troubling. Berger has potential but is fairly untested and will immediately be singled out as a weak spot on our Pro Bowl caliber line. Also if Kosier is out six weeks he'll miss roughly the first month of the schedule. We've got some tough games against Philly, Green Bay and Washington where he'll be sorely missed.
Isaiah Stanback also separated his left shoulder and is doubtful to play Thursday versus the Vikings, according to the DMN Blog. The game just got so much bigger for Mike Jefferson and Danny Amendola.
The biggest blow to the team is Stanback, we doubt he will play on Thursday night against Minnesota, because it cause depth issues at wide receiver.
Just tough on all fronts.
Shout out to Deke and his fanpost here.

The biggest blow to the team is Kosier, not Stanback. Stanback is easily replaceable with Amendola or Jefferson. People act like Stanback is some big time loss. He is not going to be missed. C’mon people, it’s a no brainer that Kosier is a huge loss.

I posted the same thing on Deke’s fanpost and then read the comments at DMN blog and everyone’s saying the same thing. does Calvin know wtf he’s talking about? our #5 WR who is not expected to produce at all this season except on returns, vs. our starting lineman? hello?
but stanback is a loss at returns especially if they don’t want to play felix there. one question is whether this forces them to use felix on returns with both austin and stanback out, or becomes an excuse to keep felix out of returns because of fear of injury. if Felix, Miles and Isaiah are all not returning kicks, who is our kick return pair for opening day?

They had Scandrick back there
returning kicks after Stanback went down. Didn’t see who the second guy was.

right, plus Jenkins
Jenkins has done some return work, I guess those two will likely be our return pair

+ Amendola
can’t recall if they’ve been working Danny at kick returns, but he does have kick return experience in college as well as punts. so that could be another leg up for him to make the cut.

I agree
but i think they were talking about just for this upcoming game. not for the season. I think. Cause I don’t think anyone would argue a starter on what might be the best unit on our team is less important than someone who barely played last year. I don’t think they’d do that. But I could be wrong.

I don't even think the starters will suit up for the game
this game is purely about evaluating the bottom end of the roster in preparation for next week’s cuts. It’s a chance for the bubble guys to fight it out for that last handful of roster spots, or maybe even a shot at the practice squad.

Even better
I’ve had enough of our starters and key backups getting injured. Let the top 20 players sit, and have the bottom 55 have their time to shine. But I’d still like to see Pac play at least a half at starting CB.

Stanback is not easily replaceable
Unless we put Felix or Pacman, maybe Jenkins back on kick returns, we are gonna be starting a lot of drives from the 22 or 23 yard line. I know everybody is gonna say we dont need good field position because our offense is so good. But I’m telling you. Nothing swings momentum like a 50 yard return, or a quick score for that matter.
Stanback is a huge loss.

calvin didn't even mention Isaiah's return game role
even if you could argue that Stanback is a bigger loss because of the return game, that’s not what Watkins said. He said “because it cause depth issues at wide receiver.” It does seem like he just kinda doesn’t know what he’s talking about here.
by scottmaui on Aug 23, 2008 9:31 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I have to disagree.
He has had one good return (44 yards) in 2 years, preseason or regular season. I think they can find someone else on the team that can do that, including the 3 guys that you mentioned, none of which are starters.
The only thing that swings momentum more than a 50 yard return or quick score is a turnover on a kick return, which basically guarantees at least 3 points for the other team, on top of the score they got prior to the kickoff.

Sounds Like a Rumor to Me
I would not overreact to gossip on a blog. The Cardinals would be fools to trade Boldin, especially to a team they’ll play this year. If they do trade him, they would be idiots to receive anything less than a king’s ransom, like two firsts, or a first and Trent Cole.
But it’s still in the speculation stage. I would suspect Dallas is well aware of the situation.

You cant make that determination
Not at this point anyway. He had a total of 3 KO returns last year for an average of 26 yards. A higher average than Hester had. Now Im not saying Stanback is as good as Hester. But he has the measurables that suggest he could be. It remains to be seen though. The body of work isnt there to say definetively one way or another.

neither which would even have a shot if it weren’t for a rash of injuries to many of our top 53 players…
Ball will be flat out cut by next saturday, and “Rudy” may be retained , “only until Austin & Stanback are fully recovered from injuries”…………and that’s only if he can leap over Jefferson in the final week of camp.

Seriously, Taylor and Osi both hurt, those would be HUGE losses for both those teams. How about merriman’s knee? Of course these injuries suck but best cast scenario is that our whole team will be out there for the fourth game.
Skins and Giants both lost their third preseason game and got very scary injuries – I’d take our situation anyday. Also, I still say that these types of injuries that force young guys into action early could help us out in the long run by giving the young uns some real playing time in case we need them down the road.
BTW what is the deal with Stanback’s shoulder? I have read that it is nothing serious or that is maybe season ending. WTF? Which is it?

both Kosier and Stanback are big losses
Kosier might be the “weak” link on the OL but he’s head and shoulders better than Begrer.
Stanback has great return ability and that will be missed if he can’t recover in time for the season opener. I just hope Wade doesn’t cave and put the Cat out there, don’t want him separating his shoulder on a return, he’s too valuable to our offense.

Injury clarification...
Stanback had a “dislocated” shoulder and not a “separated” shoulder… there is a big difference…. A separated shoulder aka as an AC Sprain usually occurs when the athlete lands directly on the tip of the shoulder. You damage the AC ligament as well as a possibility of others… A dislocated shoulder is when the shoulder pops out of the socket and stays out…. when this happens, the rotator cuff muscle group is damaged along with the possibilty of labral damage and a humeral head fracture… if he does require surgery, depending on the damage done, it could be up to 4-6 months

Also, wide receiver Isaiah Stanback suffered a dislocated left shoulder on a kickoff. The Cowboys will wait to see how Stanback responds to treatment before determining if he needs surgery.

A WR in 2nd is looking more and more like a mistake..
I know there are a couple teams that have some WR’s that are playing well in the Pre-Season, but won’t make the team.. New Orleans is a team that comes to mind, they have a couple of guys who looked good on ST and at WR .. Amendola’s ability to return kicks might be his saving grace..

ummmm…..why do you think they drafted him ??
I’m with Deke….Jackson will surpass Austin’s entire 3 year career production…in ONE game…

yeah if he's starting
Sorry. I’ll take Austin speed, talent and size over a 5’11 166 lbs bag of bones any day of the week.
Well see who has the better numbers when the season is over. I bet you Jackson get’s hurt before mid season.

You're nuts
Jackson is better than any reciever on our squad not named Owens.

No way
not even close my man…..
He is a special teams, slot WR that’s it. He will never be a dominant lead WR in this league. Bank on it…
There was a reason why he was the 49th pick in the second round.

Desean who?
Our starter are – top notch. We are showing weakness in the back ups – except at the wide out position, LB and CB positions. I am now interested in seeing what nr 29 can do if nr 24 misses a game or two. We might need to fine a roster spot for nr 35. And just call it a night if nrs 9 or 4 goes down.

Will someone explain to me
Why there is so much pure hatred for Stanback? You guys hate him like he plays for Philly or somethin, damn. Can we wait and see first?
by Carl Shelton (GloryDayz88) on Aug 24, 2008 5:30 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
So judgemental.
You hate Stanback after one fumble. You let the HBO cameras fool you into thinkin that Martellus Bennett is a complete fool 24 hrs a day. You wanted Spears cut. You dont want Carpenter on the roster. You didnt want Pacman. I wasnt on this blog then, but you probably didnt want T.O. either.
The funny thing is, either one of these guys could have all you flip-floppers, singin a different song tommorrow.
You love Spears, you love T.O., you love Pacman. You will love Bennett and you will love Stanback.
Let me step into these hater shoes for a minute to see what they feel like cause I’ve never had them on before.
It feels awkward but let me try it….damn I can barely walk in these things, they must not be meant for me. Okay Imma try it anyway….he goes….
Ummmm……….We should cut Felix Jones because he fumbled.
Nope still doesnt feel right.
I guess I’ll leave the hatin to the haters.

Yeah, I don't get the hate regarding Stanback
He’s a gifted athlete who lost most of his rookie season to pre-existing injury. He’s already a good KO returner and he seems (from the WR coach’s reports) to be way ahead of where he was last year. You have to give the guy a chance before you can proclaim him a bust or say he won’t amount to anything. If his latest injury is season ending, then I would agree he has a slimmer chance to make it. But if he’s only out 4 to 6 weeks, he could go on the PUP list no problem.

No question the kid is talented
But many including myself thought spending a 4th round pick on a project was a mistake, especially after the disaster with Sykler Green. Because the success rate is slim I thought it was a bad pick. That 4th round pick could’ve been used for a different need. It seems many aren’t too happy with the Bennett pick either. I’m ok with the pick because the WR crop was weak and that includes DeSean Jackson. He is not what we needed.
Stanback now getting injured is a regular occurrence it seems. Another reason to think it was a bad idea drafting him.

another knee jerk reaction
but I do agree, I wasn’t on board with the Skyler Green pick. The wide rceiever positon was not weak this year, that’s simple not true. It may not have been full of top 15 talent, but it is a deep class as far as rceievers go, the deepest in years.
by Deke on Aug 24, 2008 9:24 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The Skyler Green pick was by far one of the worst picks in the history of the Dallas Cowboys.......and I knew that the minute we drafted him...
Thank god the two men responsible for that pick are long gone and forgotten….
I also agree with Deke by saying this years past draft was extremely deep with wideouts that will make decent #2’s and #3’s in this league….I didin’t see any of them becoming dominant #1 all pro types….but several that will contribute for years to come…..That being said…..I’m glad we didn’t “reach” for one of them in round 1 or 2…..cuz we need a certain type to WR to compliment our current group…….that being a speedster slot type that can be lined up outside occasionally to stretch the field….A Steve Smith, Joey Galloway, Santana Moss type guy……If we weren’t gonna get Desean Jackson, I was all for passing on the other guys in the second round..

Skyler Green
was a good pick. It just didnt work out. Hindsight is 20/20, but Skyler Green was a solid pick at the spot he was drafted. You cant blame anybody for taking one of the best return men in the draft and a potentially good slot guy in the 4th round.
David Carr was a good pick.
Joey Harrington was a good pick.
You dont hit on them all. And sometimes you get a Pro Bowler in the 6th round.
It’s not an exact science.

I disagree
for a fourth round pick. Green wasn’t going to give you anything as a receiver, he was just a return man, so as a special teams player, you have to be able to contribute more to justify a spot on game day. I thought there was better talent available in the fourth round
I thought Dallas should of selected the guard Rob Sims
by Deke on Aug 24, 2008 10:29 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
It was weak Deke
Every guru on earth, including coaches agreed. Otherwise there would have been a WR picked in the first round. This year might have been deep, but wasn’t too talented. There was no Calvin Johnson’s in this years draft, not even close. I for one was happy to see Wade not use a high draft pick on any of them.

Did I not just say there wasn't top 15 talent receivers in this draft
that doesn’t make it a weak draft class for receivers. How many time have I said, I wouldn’t draft a receiver in the first round unless that receievr was a blue chip player, but the second through fourth rounds was solid draft for receivers.

now this guy we may have a shot at:

Crabtree will be a top 5
for sure. Maybe Jerry can package something with all those picks we will have next year to move up. Too much to give up I’m sure, but it would be nice….

I agree.....If he somehow slips beyong the 5th pick......
I’d do anything and everything to aquire Crabtree…..He’s surely no fluke, and I don’t see a bust factor at all……I’d give up quite a bit to aquire him……Our 1st, 2 – 3rd’s , and a 5th……..
