Sad News
Sports Illustrated is reporting that Texans wide receiver Harry Williams likely will never play football again after suffering a severe spinal injury in the game against our Cowboys last Friday night. This can only add fuel to the fire of how necessary preseason games are and what the terrible price of "meaningless" games can be. The good news is he will be able to walk and function near normally in most respects. I can't even begin to imagine how the player who collided with him (forgot his name) must be feeling. It wasn't planned and all, but that probably makes no difference to him.

games are meaningless...
to everyone except those guys just like Williams. these games are to determine who fills out what most teams hope to be a championchip roster. You cant just pick the 53 you like based on practice, you do have to see some game action to help make your cuts. It’s a large price to pay when you lose your ability to play ball, but i bet harry knows that he had pushed all in on the hand and just didnt have the winner.
most people who break the c4
cant breathe without a ventilator….
he is lucky
wow..
3 year practice squad guy.. finally breaking through to the 53.. those are the guys everyone roots for. pet cats.. stories like this are unfortunate no matter who the player is (starter, backup whatever..) But it makes this story a bit tougher to swallow
The last time the Gmen won the Superbowl.. Dallas won three of the next 5
I think this is great news
yeah, no doubt, it’s too bad that his football career has ended, but if you ask me which is better news, making a football team or being able to walk after experiencing paralyization for ten minutes on the football field, I’ll take the full funcitioning of my extremities everytime over playing football. I’m happy the surgery went well and wish him all the best..
It's a matter of perspective
Yes, from a coldly analytical viewpoint it’s always better to be able to walk and have full use of your body than not. But from a different side you have to think of how this guy is going to take all of this. He probably has been been playing football since pee-wee. Went through high scholl and college with a dream of playing in the NFL. He finally gets on a team after waiting for years on the practice squad and in less than a second, it’s all gone. It’s not like something like this happening to a veteran who maybe got a large signing bonus to fall back on. Practice squad players don’t make much in comparison. All of the things you stated he will eventually realize and accept. I just feel for someone who has lost something they cannot replace.
Candy is dandy but sex won't rot your teeth.
there wasn't much chance of him making the roster in the first place
believe me, when he was laying on the field not able to move anything for ten minutes and not feel anything, he wasn’t thinking about playing football again, that was the least of his worries..
+1
I bet this guy feels damn lucky to be able to walk away from football after going through that. Considering the magnitude of what might have the outcome, he’s probably very happy.

Football is just a game
Being able to walk and use my arms and legs is much more important..
Cowboys fan since 1978.. I was 3 years old
wish him the best!
that was a very unlucky play, there’s just no comparison to playing Football & the ability function normally!
