Dallas Cowboys news & notes

Some quick news & notes from today

With Austin and Stanback down, the kick return unit becomes an interesting place. Wade says Mike Jenkins is going to get some time back there along with Orlando Scandrick and El Gato might possibly make an appearance.

I guess we’re all just counting on it as a formality, but sheriff Roger Goodell has to actually reinstate Adam Jones for him to play. Final cuts are on the 30th, the Cowboys expect to know by then and expect that he'll be cleared.

"We've worked him, getting him ready for the season, and then getting him working with our first group, especially our sub-group and any sub-package that we have," [Wade] Phillips said of Jones. "He's the guy that goes in."

Tony Romo is ready to go. Freed from the burden of playing in the last preseason game, he’s ready to get this thing started.

“It just allows you to get a chance to get a little bit of a head start on the opponent,” Romo said Tuesday. “For us, that’s Cleveland. We’ve been working on them this week. The juices are flowing just because you know the first game is coming.”

Jason Witten thinks Martellus Bennett still has a lot to learn.

“He has to understand this is his job,” Witten said. “That’s the next step for him. Sometimes you don’t really realize that.”

A couple of other notes, Terence Newman participated in practice in-full today and looked good doing it, so they say. Pat McQuistan practiced with the 1's again today.

Well said by Witten

That seems to be the problem for Bennett based on what we’ve seen. It doesn’t seem like he is approaching this opportunity this like a diligent professional, he’s approaching it as it has been his whole life – extra-curricular. While that’s obviously irritating, don’t write the guy off. That’s a message that can be learned.

Just finished watching the old

Budwiser “Leon” commercials; does anyone remember/miss those bits. They were hilarious; I always imagine Keyshawn, more on the looks than his personality but he did have some of the Diva WR tendecies.

Its kinda messed up

That Goodell can wait until AFTER the final cuts,to levy his decision on whether Pacman will be reinstated or not.

Thought he said

He would inform the Cowboys and AJ of his decision prior too final cuts expressly for the reason of allowing the Cowboys to make the right roster decisions based on reinstatement or lack there of.

No

When he partially reinstated Jones so he could practice and attend camp, the commish said he would make his decision by Sept. 1. Jerry has said he hopes and believes the decision would come before final cuts Aug. 30, but the commish never promised it would.

I don't think it's messed up at all

Goodell isn’t the one who was had multiple run-ins with the law and the Cowboys knew all the facts before they signed him. Goodell would be dumb to disrespect Jerry Jones and I’m sure that the commissioner’s office is in direct communication with Dallas’.

I'm worried about the beer supply. After this case, and the other case, there's only one case left- Barney Gumble

I think its messed up

if the commishioner waits until sept.1st…after final cuts….to make a decision. What if they reject him after we’ve already made final cuts? definitely could put the cowboys at a disadvantage. THAT IMO is messed up!

yeah

if they wait until Sept 1 and reinstate him, no biggie. If they wait until Sept 1 and then don’t reinstate him, that would be totally jacking with the Cowboys. But I just don’t see that happening. Not in the NFL’s interest any more than it is in the Cowboys interest.

Check this out Marion vs. Gore....Fantasy
In 2007, it was obvious the Cowboys offense was more explosive when Barber was on the field, making it an easy decision for the organization to allow Julius Jones to walk during free agency. During the offseason, owner Jerry Jones opened up his checkbook and signed Barber to a seven-year, $45 million contract with $16 million guaranteed.

This is where it get’s good. The guy has no clue what he is talking about.

Frank Gore (By Ryan Houston)

Sure, I like Barber. But he’s not Gore. Do you really want a player who has never carried the ball more than 204 times in a season to be your No. 1 running back? I didn’t think so.

Look up... get up...Don't ever, ever give up!!

MBIII over Gore anyday

MBIII is the #1 RB I would take over anyone else except LT and Westbrook

Yeah, because Frank Gore is SO GREAT

Gore had an amazing year 2 years ago and still didn’t break 10 TDs. Last year he regressed, and this year his coordinator is Mike Martz, whose offense has produced horrendous RB stats in the last 5 years. Barber scores TDs in his sleep and is going to have an enormous year. Top 5 RB for sure.

That said, I really hope everyone I’m drafting against takes his advice. Go Gore!
