Witten sounds off on Bennett
Rookie TE Martellus Bennett recalls a rather harsh response after asking Jason Witten for help early in training camp: "I'm not going to be [beep] doing this all the [beep] time. You've got to know what the [beep] to do."
The message: Bennett better handle his business before he expects to get much help from the Pro Bowler at his position.
It's not like Witten, the game's best all-around tight end, is worried about the second-round pick cutting into his playing time or eventually replacing him in the starting lineup. Far from it. Witten wants Bennett to fulfill his potential, and he doesn't think babying the Aggie will help him.
It's the same way Dan Campbell, another Aggie tight end, treated Witten when he was a rookie. It's a tough love form of leadership.

Martellus Bennett might take note of Witten's comments and start to take his job more serious. Witten does not seem very impressed with bennett's attitude and work ethic thus far.. Bennett has a great opportunity in dallas and has one of thee best tightends in the game to learn from, its time for bennett to grow up and take his opportunity by knowing his responsibilities and learn the finer points of the game from on of thee best tightends in the game in Witten, instead of acting like a know it all.

Don't fool around with Witten
This is the best tight end in the league and Bennett better take advantage of it and learn from the best. Bennett and Witten together on the field would be so hard to defend against. How in the heck is Philly going to stop this offense in 3 weeks? They don’t stand a ghost of a chance

Wow
Witten doesn’t give a . He just wants to get out there and play some football and work his off to get getter, so if Bennett really wants to learn anything he’d better learn to stop around out on the football field and keep his head out of his .
That #38 sure should wrap up!

I kind of liked
the Mad-Libs style. It’s like, fill in your own expletive or other slang word.

Like this..
I like Jason’s approach to Martellus…let him learn under fire sort of speak, 80 will be much better off for it in the long run. From watching Hard Knocks, I really have taken a liking to Martellus…he seems to not take himself too seriously but he has to make sure that care-free attitude doesn’t seep onto the football field.
He should live by Romo’s statement…he takes his job seriously but not himself. I think Martellus has the athletic skill to become a great tight-end compliment to Witten and deadly red-zone target. I’m rooting for him.

I like this too
And this is the kind of tough love and leadership that we need the veterans to exhibit. The coaches don’t want to beat Bennett down and make him tune them out, but Witten can tell him straight. Bennett may be wired a bit differently, but he knows how good and how respected Witten is. He’ll follow the example.

the kid's immature Deke
cut him a little slack, not all 21 yr olds can be mature professionals right out of college. He’ll learn in time.

I think people forget
that even professional athletes are basically just kids at that stage. A lot of them have never had to actually work for anything their entire life, or ever had anyone tell them they weren’t good enough. That’s not just a characteristic of young athletes, but most young people coming out of college, in general. It’s not just rookies in sports that look confused and overwhelmed, it happens in all sorts of occupations. Let’s just joke he turns out like Private Joker and not Private Pyle.

Witten sees promise in Bennett
I do not think he would have bothered to reply to anything that Bennett said to the media if he did’nt care about the kid; much ado about nothing so far. As the season plays out we will learn more about the rookie’s development.

Gotta love Witten
His approach is perfect IMO. Sounds like he’s more than willing to be the mentor to Bennett but not until Bennett shows real interest in wanting to up his game. The proof is in the pudding. Right now it seems as if Bennett is not mentally in it and until that happens don’t expect Witten to let you copy his homework. He’s gotta do that part himself.

good sign
I think he"s really starting to realize that this is not A&M, & to be a success your game has to be on a whole other level, his play on the field has gotten better with each game, still growing into a new role, he should be ok.

Hope Witten doesnt end up with his jaw wired shut.
You cant just talk to grown men however you want.

You can if your an all world player
and you are talking to a man who wants to make something of himself. The NFL isn’t all about talent, there are plenty of insanely talented guys who end up with nothing because of crappy attitudes. If Bennett is half the man we think he is he will listen to every word Witten says and show him a ton of respect.

well..bennett
..needs to grow up before he is a “grown” man

Naw
You gotta show a man his respect regardless. The fact that Witten is a far superior football player means nothing in the real world. And some people dont separate football from the real world, they just handle everything like a real world situation, which might result in Witten’s jaw bein wired shut.

Well this
which might result in Witten’s jaw bein wired shut
would result in the end of Bennett’s career so for the sake of the COwboys future let’s hope he’s not that stupid.

True
But Bennett would move on, eventually, and find another team. But Witten would always have the day he got wired up by that kid from A&M.

you're high Glory
if you actually think Bennett could beat Witten in a fight, it wouldn’t even be close, Witten is the one who would wire Bennett’s jaw shut, no question about it.

Why because Witten is a better football player?
I’ll lay my money on the dude that grew up in Alief, TX. I’m sure he’s got a few fights under his belt.

ha! Witten could kick Bennett's azz in a heartbeat
make no mistake about that, he’s probably the toughest dude on the team.

one thing is for sure....
if witten did have his jaw wired shut, he would shuttle his ass out there to the playing field and get it done anyhow…. just as he has already done before. Bennett is obviously all-world as far as physical tools, Witten is just trying to get Bennett to realize his own potential with a little tough love.

Agree
And I’ll join those saying Witten would knock him out. Did you see him without his shirt on in Hard Knocks last night? That guy is pure strong.

not to mention just a tough SOB
I’d feel pretty damn safe walking around any shady neighborhood in America with #82, thats for sure.

If
I don’t think means in a pure fight, I think he is saying if Bennett just took of on him.. Bennett could break his jaw if he took off on Witten, when he was expecting it..

you mean when he wasn't expecting it
if Witten was expecting it, Bennett is the one that ends up with a broken jaw.

i love it
i think garrett’s approach hasn’t done that much to inspire martellus (and by inspire i mean inspire fear in, inspire a desire to please, motivate whatever). i think a little moxie cold go a long wa.
