This Generation kill show freaks me out a bit..

My brother is a Marine serving in Iraq…granted it’s a bit different now than when they were invading but damn….I can’t even imagine what it must be like to not know exactly who your enemy is.

I'm psyched

I thought there were only going to be 4 episodes.

Quick thoughts...

Altogether, a boring episode…(1) Why is Bobby Carpenter such a female? (2) Martellus Bennett haters: He’s starting to do exactly what we drafted him for, blocking! Special teams is becoming quite the extra perk. In case ya’ll forgot, we have some #82 guy that can catch a few balls for us…And (3) I agree with Brandon W, they took about 3.6 seconds to talk about our celebrity quarterback. I hope Tuna’s list of QB musts getting thrown away doesn’t ruin our still VERY young gunslinger…Go Boys!!!

by AikmanNailedMySis on Aug 27, 2008 9:58 PM CDT reply actions

Uhh...well.

I’m just going to go out on a limb and say Romo had nothing to do with the editing.

As far as Romo being a celebrity quarterback: The man is the starting QB for the Dallas Freaking Cowboys. If I remember correctly Troy Aikman tried recording a very bad country album and dated country singers. I haven’t seen Romo do anything to PURPOSEFULLY make himself a celebrity, besides play in some golf tournaments (which happens to be a passion for him.) I would bet a lot that Romo did more football camps this offseason than anything thing else. And who are we to say who he can and cannot date? How dare anyone claim that Romo should not have his girlfriend present at the games, it’s not his fault that Fox and NFLN have 10 cameras scanning the boxes for her so that every time he makes a bad throw they show her there.

Just be grateful Romo is our quarterback; there’s only about 2 others I would want if I were forced to replace him.

by Brandon Worley on Aug 27, 2008 10:07 PM CDT up reply actions

well said Brandon

any starting qb for the Cowboys who is really good is going to be a celebrity qb, thats just the way it is, can’t be stopped.

Believe me..

I’ll never hate on a guy for dating that…hell that makes him great in my book. I’m just looking towards the future and saying I HOPE nothing bad happens…
And as much as I love Romo as my quarterback, after Troy brought 3 super bowls, he can take lines of blow off strippers on the 50 yard line at halftime and I wouldn’t care.

by AikmanNailedMySis on Aug 28, 2008 11:41 AM CDT up reply actions

I thought it was a good episode.

They just tried to fit a bunch of storylines into it, which is great because it means this is a mid episode and not the final one.

Your comments are rather trite. 1) Bobby C a female? He’s getting blasted by two bada$$ dudes!
2) Bennett is a receiving TE, not a blocking. I don’t know what you’ve been watching. 3) Romo is much more mature than his age presents. Hard Knocks had to show Jessica sometime. Big "F"ing deal! It’s a TV show, not just for football fans. They showed his dad alot. Does that annoy you too?

That #38 sure should wrap up!

by Aaron Novinger on Aug 28, 2008 10:03 AM CDT up reply actions

With Bennett...

I’m just saying we don’t need him to be Witten (although it’d be nice). It was mainly a knock on all the haters. Based on what we’re seeing in his progression, he’s finding his niche. His attitude is obviously improving, as is his grasp on the speed of the game- this coming from more than the show b/c God knows what does on that they don’t print…
And I’m sticking by Bobby C being a female…He needs to step his game up REAL quick. He looked a bit estrogen-fueled even without 2 monsters smacking him. In case you missed it, he got run over by Sam Hurd…

I know, that was hilarious

I now have my doubts he could even be sucessful in a 4-3 defense.

Jerry Jones- " Carpernter's a finesse guy" words unbecoming of an NFL 3-4 ILB

The dudes gotta toughen up, I loved Columbo slappin him around like a bitch…..“Barbi Carpenter” ……classic

A true diehard Cowboys fan since 1975.

"If you don’t take him off the field as a coach, he will just about die out there," Jerry Jones said. "That impacted my decision. It’s a Michael Irvin-type work ethic. That’s what we are talking about with Felix Jones."
- Owner/G.M of the Dallas Cowboys , Jerry Jones

by BoyzRback on Aug 27, 2008 10:19 PM CDT reply actions

For clarification

Was Bobby doing something dirty in those drills, or was the OL threatening him/punching him just to be intimidating and/or toughen him up?

That was one of my favorite parts of the show so far. That and TO doing the Cricket run…hilarious.

by grapejoos on Aug 28, 2008 10:01 AM CDT up reply actions

Colombo and Bigg have that right side of the line as tough as they get.

I think they like to mess with Carp’s head cuz he tries to speed pass them. That’s all real competition there. Offense vs. Defense stuff!

That #38 sure should wrap up!

by Aaron Novinger on Aug 28, 2008 10:05 AM CDT up reply actions

LOL!!! that was the best!

Barbi Carp, that is the best nickname I’ve heard in a long time. I knew Carp was soft and weak, but I didn’t know it was quite this bad.

To say Barbi isn’t physical is like saying Jerry Jones isn’t poor…LOL!

I wonder

If Bennett is the key to keeping the offense from becoming stagnant. His ability to stretch the seam may have a similar effect to having a speedy #2 wideout.

by Carl Shelton (GloryDayz88) on Aug 27, 2008 10:38 PM CDT reply actions

I think so.

He and Felix combine to have a WOW player on the field as much as possible.

That #38 sure should wrap up!

I have a good feeling about Bennett.

The last episode they were praising him even more and you learn a little more about him. The biggest sign for me was when he was talking about the staff and how he is trying to take in as much as he can and absorb everything like a sponge. That was the first time I heard Bennett show that he was buying into what the coaching staff was trying to tell him. Also where he is understanding how much they are able to teach him and where he talks about how he was able to get by with his ability instead of using proper technique.

by cowboy78 on Aug 27, 2008 11:53 PM CDT reply actions

RE: Bennett

The point that impressed me was in a coaches meeting where they were discussing Bennett, and one coach suggested he was ready for the #2 spot. Big news.

My impression of Bennett, from what little I saw of him before the draft, was that he was a ferocious blocker. Cowboys cut Fasano before the draft and drafted Bennett, and I figured that Bennett would replace him as the 2nd TE. Fasano last year had a mere 14 catches, he was used mostly as a blocker. So bring Bennett in, potentially a better blocker, and if he only gets 14 catches that’s OK, we did good with that last year.

A couple of weeks ago I was down on him, his personality and drive is not ideal for an NFL player. He is laid back and a little silly when you see him in interviews or in Hard Knocks, but I’ve noticed he does seem to have a mean streak when he’s playing. Jekyll and Hyde-ish.

I think he was drafted to play this year, it’s his job to lose despite his current 3rd string status. I don’t believe the coaches or fans want Tony Curtis as the 2nd TE, let’s hope Bennett can mature and develop and fill a critical role for the team this year.

by MooEChili on Aug 28, 2008 1:30 AM CDT up reply actions

Curtis

Why wouldn’t fans want Curtis as the 2nd TE? I for one would be just fine with it, Curtis is good.

by WestTxHornFan on Aug 28, 2008 10:24 AM CDT up reply actions

Curtis is ordinary.

Which is fine for a backup TE. But a playmaker would be better….

by GhettoBear04 on Aug 28, 2008 10:25 AM CDT up reply actions

I agree

But I don’t feel like we would be handicapped with Curtis out there

TO is hilarious

when he was mocking Pac for getting tackled by the punter and Cricket for how he runs that was truly LOL funny. totally cracked me up.

I like Tellus. I think he’s going to be a great player and fit in well with this offense, and I’m glad to see him in a good light. He actually has a lot of insight into himself and may be more mature than he has been presented earlier. When he takes that natural ability and combines it with NFL coaching and sound fundamentals, he’s gonna be freakin fearsome.

Felix 10 touches per game, about as expected I think, though it might increase as the season goes on.

overall I love this show, the inside look into how the team operates, the sights and sounds of camp and the game, getting to know the players and the story lines…

by scottmaui on Aug 28, 2008 2:31 AM CDT reply actions

I'm saying it

We are becoming a running team. I mean why not, o-line is the biggest in the league, the TEs are badass blockers and we got a badass RB in the Barbarian. I want to see how opposing defenses stop that. Then we start throwing it on them later on in the game

by Burt88 on Aug 28, 2008 9:33 AM CDT reply actions

no way Burt

that will never happen so long as Garrett, Romo and T.O. run the offense, just not going to happen. We’ll score points through the air, make no mistake about that.

by Terry on Aug 28, 2008 9:49 AM CDT up reply actions

I think we will see balance this year

Much like Indy, I think we will run the ball more this year now that the Super Bowl is in sight. As for whether we run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run (as we did last year), it will depend on how well each facet of the offense does, but I have a feeling the run/pass ratio will be balanced this year. We have 3 RBs who can be productive and Houck seems to have the O-line run blocking as well as they pass block.

I agree that Garrett likes to air it out (and, if it ain’t broke…), but if the D is stout, I fully expect us to grind it out a lot more.

by grapejoos on Aug 28, 2008 9:59 AM CDT up reply actions

I'm hoping we become more like the Cowboys of the '90s

which would have Tony and company passing to a big lead, then turn MB3 loose in the 2nd half to finish off the game.

To me, thats the best way to achieve balance.

In Romo we Trust

by Terry on Aug 28, 2008 10:08 AM CDT up reply actions

This is also what Football Outsiders

proved that the best offenses do. People think the best offenses run to set up the pass, but really, they pass to set up the run. Good teams are running the ball to eat up the clock in the second half.

by GhettoBear04 on Aug 28, 2008 10:23 AM CDT up reply actions

Well, that was certainly the design last year and it worked pretty well

I think Garrett is going to do what works. But I think the ideal would be to do what you are suggesting.

by grapejoos on Aug 28, 2008 12:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe not a running team as

I meant more of a balance. If I see more TE and RB formations than before, I won’t be surprised

by Burt88 on Aug 28, 2008 6:15 PM CDT up reply actions

60/40 split

but Barber will have a better season then Addai and Maroney..

Another Great Episode...

I’m not sure why people think it’s boring… it can’t be all practice or game footage.

Bennett is finally starting to get it. He just needed to recognize that talent alone doesn’t hack it at this level, and he seems to want to get better. Keep yelling at him, Coach Garrett.

The quote of the show, “F—- that” from Jason Garrett. Classic!!!

Barbie Carpenter – sadly appropriate.

Felix the Cat needs to hold onto the ball, but what an explosive talent.

T.O. should do stand up.

by GhostofGaryHogeboom on Aug 28, 2008 10:32 AM CDT reply actions

surely only non Cowboys fans think its boring

I look forward to Wednesday nights at 10 pm all week long, I think the shows have been awesome, as far from boring as you can get. I could watch that show for hours on end, I’ll be disappointed once its over, thats for sure.

by Terry on Aug 28, 2008 10:51 AM CDT up reply actions

Nobody feels it's boring.

Everybody who has HBO who watches the show that I know—love it, even my Redskins and Browns buddies.

If you are a Cowboy fan and think the show is boring, then you have NO taste in television, and you obviously have little passion for your team.

I’m with you Terry, I’ll be disappointed when its over, but looks like it’s 6 episodes? They’ll probably go through final cuts.

That #38 sure should wrap up!

by Aaron Novinger on Aug 28, 2008 10:55 AM CDT up reply actions

Same here

Work on Wednesdays feels extra long.

Glad to see Tellus stepping up. I think somoene saw the first two episodes of Hard Knocks! I’m getting pretty excited about him. He does good things with the ball in his hands.

by grapejoos on Aug 28, 2008 12:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Not Boring at all!

I’m with you guys…..I love the show and it is giving us an extra insight into some players that we may not have been too familiar with. I will also be bummed when its over!

You'll never get in a traffic jam, while going the extra mile. -Roger staubach
