Special Teams Contributors - Scandrick edition
From Todd Archer's blog:
"Orlando Scandrick blocked seven kicks in his career at Boise State. We saw why on Saturday. During a punt-rush drill he sped around the corner and practically beat the ball to punter Mat McBriar. It was an amazing burst of speed."
As noted lower in the comments there, we haven't had much of a punt blocking threat since Isaac Holt (we aquired him in the Walker trade, I believe).
Even though we lost some good special teams players, we have enough young, athletic talent, I expect us to make some big plays on special teams.

indeed
with all the different upgrades and potentials of this season, including our return games, this is one of the exciting possibilities to really keep an eye one on special teams. If along with upgraded return games and hopefully decent coverage units, if Scandrick can block a few punts here and there that would be a huge contribution.
My biggest concern is consistency on coverage units, especially since our special teams captain has moved on to Miami. Hopefully the new guys can stay in their lanes…

and not just that...
even having the reputation of such, if he can block even one I wonder how much that will open things up for returns. Teams worried about a blocked punt may keep their blockers in longer, potentially allowing one of A Jones, Crayton, T New, Amendola, or whoever is back there to get some extra room to run.
geeeez.....could this season start any faster ???

Yeah, I want to see some punt blocks!
Just 6 more days guys. I hope it’s live on the local stations here in CA.
