Dallas Cowboys announce roster cuts

Printhe Dallas Cowboys have cut their roster down to 53. Here are the cuts, per DallasCowboys.com
Wide Receiver: Danny Amendola; Mark Bradford; Mike Jefferson; Todd Lowber
This was pretty surprising. With three of the Cowboys' top five receivers hurt it was thought Dallas would keep at least one of their untested rookies for depth. Now it is clear the Cowboys plan on using the tight ends (and perhaps Felix Jones) to help out in the passing game. However, I think this means the Cowboys will be seriously looking at some veterans to come in and provide depth. Look for Amendola and Jefferson to get invited to the practice squad.
Tight Ends: Drew Atchison; Rodney Hannah
Rodney Hannah made some plays but was not consistent enough to make the final roster.
Quarterbacks: Richard Bartel
Practice squad material if he chooses to stay in Dallas.
Running Backs: Alonzo Coleman; Julius Crosslin; Keon Lattimore
No surprises here, especially with how well Felix Jones and Tashard Choice have looked in the preseason.
Offensive Line: Ryan Gibbons; Cory Lekkerkerker (injury settlement)
Looks like James Marten got a second chance after all.
Defensive Line: Remi Ayodele; Marcus Dixon; Darrell Robertson; Marcus Smith; Junior Siavii
The Cowboys are just too deep on the defensive line, especially with Tank Johnson emerging as a team leader and Marcus Spears finally becoming a playmaker.
Linebackers and DB's: Dowayne Davis; Tearrius George; Tyson Smith; Erik Walden
Interesting that the Cowboys didn't keep Walden, who had started to emerge as a steady special teams player. Dowayne Davis is practice squad material.
Other notes of interest: The Cowboys decided to keep both Alan Ball and Evan Oglesby, a perfect example of players forcing themselves on the roster. Oglesby had showed some promise against the pass and Alan Ball had started to make plays on special teams, especially as a gunner on the punt team.
Larry Allen officially retired today as a Dallas Cowboy.

you got me by a split second. A bit surprised we cut Walden as well as both bubble WR (amendola and Jefferson). Count me in as one of the guys who would like to get Hannah and Bartel back on the practice squad.

I think Bartel needs another year on the practice squad
he has to work on his throwing motion, its too long of a motion, almost like a pitcher. The ball has to come out quicker, alot of his passes were late coming out
with someone the quality backups
who got released, I don’t see him getting scooped up..

So we have 2 healthy WR’s on our roster now. That should change before Monday. We must be looking to pick someone up.

I saw the Cardinals made their cuts but I can’t find the list. I suspect our vet will come from them or will be Glenn. Ball must be trade bait.

So I guess we kept 11 OL?

Even if he is equal to Johnson
there’s more long-term insurance with Harrington, especially considering Bartel is gone—for now.

We’ve got a recent history with Cleveland and they need CBs?

Ball is not worthy of a 5th rounder.....if any round at all...no team will give anything for Ball..
Im not even sure Marten can garner a draft pick….a 6th or 7th at best..

Ball is worth a future 5th I think
tall and fast guy that can play corner, not many of those guys out there
he couldn't play corner here....
and he’s only 176 lbs….tall is one thing….rail thin is another….not physical enough…and i am sure the other 31 teams would look at the same preseason game film that i watched…..and i sure didn’t see an NFL quality CB when i saw #20 out there…

a 2006 3rd round pick, so they must really like that Steptoe kid.

he’s got size, speed, and playmaking ability…wonder how he’s fallen hard since his first year few years in college…where he showed lots of promise…
