Dallas Cowboys training camp: Practice #15

The Cowboys practiced this morning in shorts and helmets and that means they didn’t run anything at full speed. Consequently, there isn’t a lot to report. To give you an idea of why, when they were running 11-on-11 Courtney Brown made an INT and Wade came over and told the defense to quit catching the ball. So they weren’t really covering, breaking up passes or anything that resembled a true scrimmage. It was all formations and assignments. A few notes, Marcus Spears was practicing at NT again, Alan Ball returned to practice, when they went to the dime Courtney Brown came in as the deep safety with Ken Hamlin and not Pat Watkins. Don’t know if that means anything long term but just reporting what I saw. Also, T.O. and Flozell sat out the practice.

So instead of a report, here are some pics from today.

Sounds like Courtney Brown is having a good camp.

Can’t wait to see back ups like him this Saturday. I hope he starts.

That #38 sure can hit!

I'm Wondering

If there’s any significance to Brown’s recent promotion. From what I’ve read, he seems to be getting plenty of action.

We all know he’s raw but talented. I hope he can turn out to be both a good special teams player and a keeper at safety.

Brown was the safety in the dime package

for the last couple of days, they’ve had him working over Pat Watkins for a lot of the reps. Brown just seems to be around the ball a lot, tipped passes or errant throws seem to find him, he has been making more plays on the ball than Watkins.

I think Brown will be the deep safety

in dime packages this year, replacing Watkins who will take over Davis’ job as our ST ace.

That's my guess as well

I know they want to see him tackle in a game as a safety, but deep safety for a guy with his speed and athleticism is perfect regardless.

+1 dunk......he's got great recognition skills, closing speed, and more agility as a former CB....

I’m lovin’ it…..my pet cat C Brown makin’ the move up…..way to go….he is certainly a keeper….he was injured last year….I expect to see him on the field more this year for sure…

Choice looked good in camp

People who didn’t know him like I did we’re impressed by what he can do. We got three quality backs, I’m convinced of that.

I just read

Mosely who talked to Stewart by phone. The piece is fine, but the key part was that he was told that Tank has had the best camp of any player. This definitely explains the moving around of Rat – they are looking for ways to get Tank on the field for more downs…

heck yeah

if tank starts dominating at the nose it’s only going to increase the intensity of our pass rush and ability to make negative plays in the backfield…..good stuff…

I am so psyched

To see this defensive front 7 in action. If this Spears/Ratliff swap unleashes some production from that DE spot, combined with our LBs, we could have another Doomsday on our hands. Wishful thinking perhaps, but the tools are all there for this to be the best D in the league.
