Insurance Anyone?

It's looking more and more like Brett Favre will be traded to Tampa. The odd man out in that scenario is likely to be Jeff Garcia. I have very little confidence in Brad Johnson’s ability to lead the Cowboys to the Super Bowl if Tony Romo goes down with a season ending injury. I believe this to be the the single biggest threat to the Cowboys winning the NFC this season. However, given that Dallas is stacked on both sides of the ball, Jeff Garcia could, in my opinion, lead the Cowboys to the Super Bowl and win it. And, Garcia could take Bartel’s roster spot (if he even has one), thereby keeping Johnson on the roster. Jeff Garcia as an insurance policy……in your opinion, what is that worth? I would give up a fifth round pick in the 2009 draft for sure and maybe even a fourth.

He could take Bartel's and Johnson's place

giving us another roster spot.
If we had him why would you keep Johnson?
But we are dreaming Garcia won’t want to be a backup.

He'd be an upgrade over BJ for sure

If we picked up Garcia I think it would mean bye bye for Johnson. There just isn’t enough room to keep 3 QB’s, there’s just too much talent that needs to be squeezed onto this roster.

yeah, seriously Louie..why would you even think of keeping Brad if we were to obtain Garcia ?

And for all you others that are saying Garcia wouldn’t welcome a trade here because he wants to be a starter and only a starter, and would refuse to take an employment opportunity this deep into camp, with no other teams openly shopping around for 38 year old QB’s ...I’m just not understanding that logic…...Garcia sure isn’t going to want to stay in Tampa and back up Farve for sure…..Minny ....don’t think so…Jet’s ? nope….no where to go for Garcia….We buy insurance to win NOW…....I’d surely give up an ‘09 4th, which could become a 3rd if Garcia starts any number of games for us this year (we own 2 3rd rounders next year, with the possibility of a 3rd as compensation for Julius Jones, and other free agents lost this past off season).....IF Romo goes down with injury….You can forget it all….Brad should not be in an NFL uniform…....He wouldn’t even make an Arena League team right now if given a work out…....Please Jerry…..Cleo Lemon or Jeff Garcia….....where ever Farve decides to go ….oh ….my bad…..Brett retired again…...nope…....there he is…...ahhh….the big apple Brett ?....nope…..how bout Tampa ?.......ahhh…let me have a meeting with Bus Cook first…....let me waver a little longer….......I HATE Brett Farve now….retire with your tail between your legs already…...go play for the Jets….so Nate Jones-Miami.. could lay you out twice this year…..

This is just foolishness

Wether it Simms or Garcia, what makes u think they will want to come to Dallas and back up when they could go to Chicago, Atlanta, Baltimore and prob, a few other teams and compete for a starting spot?

bad knees....you going to make the same statement about Pennington now ?....lol

II dont know that the statement is the same, but....

We will not be the only one looking at the situation; Also, Pennington has heart, but not much arm ,so I dont know what kind of up grade he would be? I dont know That Byron Leftwich would not be more of an up grade? He has no mobility , but at least he could make all the throws. (Then again from what I can find out he’s not playing for anyone, and at this point that says something in it self).

Chad Pennington?, Chad Pennington? damn, Is it to late to work with Stanback?

What a crazy trade

makes sense though, the way the pick moves up

That #38 sure can hit!

Stanback has all the skills to be an NFL quality back up QB....

the dude can chuck the ball 70 yards and appeared to have great touch, and fairly accurate from the many videos i’ve seen of him….......and i’d certainly take Leftwich as well, as mobility really isn’t a concern playing behind our all pro O line…......anyone…please Jerry….let us sleep better at night….make a move for an under 40 QB with some level of arm strength….

I've said this before

but there is too much bad blood between T.O. and Garcia for him to come to Dallas. You don’t want to disrupt any team chemistry that looks so good now.

He's a pro bowl QB

How good does he have to be?

Garcia is a west coast offence QB

suited for that system, plus he’s another old Qb, I’m done with these old backup signings at the Quarterback position. it’s the same philosophy the cowboys used with kickers and the merry go round for years this organization has taken, finally clued in a drafted a kicker, what a difference, the entire special team at the kicker, punter and long snapper positions are all locked up and taken care of for years now, when was the last time you could say that with this organization. Its time for this organization to address the backup quarterback position with a young developmental quarterback, we had one last year in Moore and dropped the ball bytwaiving him, if he was still here, we would have a backup to work with instead we’re back in the same position of trying to find a backup. Simms, IMO fits that bill, he was really establishing himself before he was seroiusly injured. Gruden didn’t like him from day ne because he wasn’t his draft pick.

He's not a qb with elite

playmaking skills which is needed in todays NFL to win a championship. He’s a scrappy dude who is very underrated, I admit, but I personally don’t think he’s good enough to win a SB.

Not to mention T.O. hates him so it would never work anyways.

Garcia

Hey boys and girls, did you forget one little detail? We finally have a happy T.O. and you want to reunite him with Garcia the first of the quarterbacks he became disgruntled with? I don’t think so! Secondly he plays in the west coast offense of quick passes and three step drops not our stretch. I agree he is a good back up, sure beats mr. windup Leftwich (life Bledsoe but different…still hold the ball just that little bit too long, and what did his coach say about his attitude?) but still he would bring baggage. So I say sorry charlie, look somewhere else. Pennington and Simms yeah but not either of those other two.

Garcia...no mas.

There is a history between T.O. & Garcia that ain’t pretty. This is not who you want backing up T.O.’s favorite QB, the couldn’t do anything right no matter how well he played. There was some definite pooch-screwing going on when Moore was let go, but these things happen. We don’t want a guy that sees himself as a starter, they cause problems. Don’t want a complete incompetent, so no rookies. The only ones left are the old guard vets like Johnson, and Testaverde. Even a best case scenario QB will want to play eventually, so this is only a temp fix at best. The fact that we are still kvetching about this let’s you know that there are no real problems on the team.
