Poll: This year's "Boom" or "Bust" players
Because of an established core group of veteran players who continue to work towards excellence, the Cowboys have the luxury right now of developing young players. Whether they're called "Boom" or "Bust", project, or developmental players, many guys who round out the bottom of each positional depth chart are faced with a little more pressure than just making the team.
These guys also face the constant scrutiny from the fans of America's Team. More debates have raged on in the BTB community concerning players such as Martellus Bennett, Isaiah Stanback, and even rookie FA Danny Amendola and "vet" LB Bobby Carpenter.
For various reasons, the majority of us can see all four of these guys making the '08 squad. But who is here for the long run? If you could pick one of these guys NOT to make the '09 team, who would it be?

+1
I got them all back, you would be more served with Greg Ellis, columbo, and Canty in a poll.
If I had to choose one though it would Bobby Diggy

don't help me, help the mountain lion"
Yeah, but I wanted to keep it for the developmental guys.
Canty? Really?

a player not under contract after this year
Not saying likely, just saying it’s possible.
"If you see me up in the mountains with a lion, I ain't lyin
don't help me, help the mountain lion"
No way Canty won't be re-signed
Is it technically possible? Yes
But in reality? No
I’d have to go with Carp, because the 2009 crop of ILB is very good. You can’t have a high priced guy at every position so if Carp doesn’t make himself impossible to cut, he could be replaced with a rookie.
Colombo might be too costly to retain also, which sucks, but there’s so much money tied up in the O-line already, there might not be enough cap space to extend him.
T-New, shutting down WR's for Dallas since 2003
Here's the thing with Carp though
Thomas’ deal easily voids down to a one year deal. If we win it all or they are really impressed with Carp and Burnett, then I think you have to seriously consider the Cowboys or Zach going that route.
Really?
I agree that Columbo will likely be gone, but I think the team is going to find a way to keep Canty around. Miami is the biggest threat there, of course.
Sorry, my comment wasn't clear
Canty will be extended and remain a Cowboy. IMO
Carp is still only a backup, if Zach plays well and remains healthy, I could see the team drafting an ILB next year and letting that player backup Zach (pretty good guy to learn from) then Carp would be out.

Just interested in the developmental/project guys for this FanPost

Bennett has 4 votes? (so far)
I just cant see that happening short of a devastating, career ending injury. The guy is a 2nd round project pick. There’s no way he’s one and done IMO.
Shouldn't have added that last option.
Shoulda made all of you vote for somebody.
I have no idea who I’d vote for though.

If your forced to choose
I’d say either Amendola or Carp. ASSUMING Amendola is anywhere near as good as his hype has been, then I think it would be a toss up between those two. They are going to give Bennett and Stanback both three years before cutting them. Bennett’s on year one and Stanback is on year two.
why is Amendola even in this poll ????
technically…he’s never even been on ours or anyones opening season roster…...he’s a camp player…and if you think he is some sort of lock to make this years team…......you are seriously putting the wagon before the horse…...so to consider him a bust if he isn’t around here next year, just makes no sense at all.

I didn't say anybody's a "lock".

My poll would've included not being here in 2009
1-Greg Ellis
2-Roy Williams
3-Marcus Spears
4-Anthony Henry
5-Stanbach
Now that’s a poll.
My vote would be Roy Williams. Ellis would be a close second follwed by Spears.
Look up... get up...Don't ever, ever give up!!
Again, I just had developmental players in mind.

But from that list
out of your guys I think I would lean towards Marcus Spears just because I think Roy has a better chance of reviving his career. I think he will “get it” this year.
I could see Ellis finishing his career in Dallas.

Cuz of Amendola?
I’m just assuming that the majority of Cowboys fans think this guy’s gonna make the team.
Every year though, there are guys that show strong preseasons (like Jamaica Rector and Jerheme Urban) that fail to make the team. It was surprising to see Aaron Glenn and Matt Moore cut last year.

Glenn should've been cut....we just didn't have the right replacement...
that the majority of Cowboys fans think
I’m thinking we only need 5 WR’s on the roster…...... to allow us to possibly keep a 7th CB, or a 5th Safety, or a 9th LB, or a 10th OL, or a 7th DL, or a 2nd FB, etc…....
In reality, the 6th WR is never activated for games, and if he can’t beat out Adam Jones, Patrick Crayton, or Terrence Newman for 1st string Punt Returner….I don’t see the value in keeping him….but don’t get me wrong…If the dude shows something in pre season..I’m all for it…I’m not downing him, but he has no better chance than the 2nd FB, 4th TE, 10th OL, 7th DL, 9th LB, 7th CB, or 5th S….........

stop the hate
If we cut him he will find a home by the next day..

how can a UDFA be a bust?
unless we let them go and they become superstars for someone else? then u would have to say its a coaching bust.
BUST might not be the right term
But Amendola is gone unless Jerry just likes him for other than football reasons. I say he gets cut and ends up on the practice squad.
