I don't remember breathing...
On Saturday night I tried to stay up as long as I could. If I stayed up long enough, maybe I could sleep straight through until 3:15p on Sunday. That was the only way I felt I could keep from climbing the walls in the hours leading up to kickoff. No luck, the body (and the kids) ruled out that idea. I watched the early games and that didn't help at all. The Texans got pounded by the Steelers, Brady's season was over in 8 minutes and the Eagles straight pimp slapped the Rams like they owed the Eagles money or something. Then I caught bonus coverage just before our kickoff of Carolina stealing victory from the Chargers on the last play of the game with zeros on the clock. My mind started going places I didn't want it to go...and I couldn't stop it.
Finally...kickoff...here we go. My 7 year old is about to start his first season of flag football so he thought this would be a great time to ask Dad questions about the game..."What's the yellow line on the field for?", "What's a first down?", "Why did he throw that yellow thing?", "Was he tryin' to hit someone?", "What's a penalty?", "What does CLE mean?", "Where's Cleveland?", "Have we been there?", "Their helmets look like pumpkins don't they Dad?". Answering his questions actually helped keep me distracted during the Browns first drive. Then we got the ball and I honestly can't tell you anything else he said to me.
On that first drive I felt like I was in another dimension. I don't think I blinked...I don't even think I took a breath. I could hear my heart pounding in my ears, everything around me just faded...all there was was me and the TV. I had flashbacks flying through my mind's eye of everything Cowboys that had consumed my brain this off season...the articles, the blog, Hard Knocks, ESPN, DMN...everything.
The hype was so intense, engulfing just sitting there waiting to claim another victim. I kept saying "Please back up the hype, please back up the hype." When Barber dove over the top I exhaled with a thunderous "TOUCHDOWN!", a happy dance, a round of high fives and a double Tiger Woods fist pump hard enough to rip a bicep. This is what I had been waiting on since our season ended and it's a damn good feeling because our team didn't disappoint. I know it can't and won't always be this good all season and I can deal with that because I'm I fan.
But while so many other teams played like pre-season was 5 weeks instead of 4, while we had the national spotlight on the road, while the haters had probably already thought up their headlines, while the Cowboy faithful were ALL holding our collective breath, this team....our team...delivered a statement louder than a supersonic boom. And so it begins...

TO is usually covered by a CB...
Oh yeah, Asante Samuel, the same guy he was matched up with when you lost to NE.
As a side note, he’s also the guy that came across the field, in our last meeting, and intercepted the ball meant for Mr. Owens when he…uh…slipped. Before Westbrook took a knee, Dawkins’ interception pretty much wrapped up the game for the Cowboys…Correct?
In Romo we Trust
…to force bad throws, allow interceptions, and fumble the ball.
Why are you talking smack?
Because you won a game 10-6 last year? Seriously? When your team was last in the division?
+1 to Samuel being overrated
He is a gambler. And gambling corners in this league get all of the glory and less of the results. See Hall, Deangelo I’d take a corner that plays tough man coverage anyday.

Deangelo Hall...
looked like a practice squad player against Eddie Royal Monday night… 146 yards on 9 receptions with 1 TD. Very impressive rookie debut.
The Red Ball Express will be rolling this year!
Don't forget 2 personal fouls!
Hall seriously might be worse than Reeves in terms of the results you get. Most overrated player EVER.
One of my buddies is a HUGE Raider fan
And we had an argument over Hall. I think he’s garbage, he was happy to have him. I wonder what he thinks after Monday night. I’ll have to call and see LOL.
Lest we forget TO's numbers vs Samuel in that game

The first drive
I remember thinking Romo has time to make a sandwich and eat before throwing.
Like NateMac said, I know every game won’t be so perfect, but it sure was sweet to start off the season win a convincing win on the road against a supposed playoff caliber team.

An Abusive Father?
Here is your son. . .begging to bond with his dad and learn about the game that has occupied you for the last 8 months and you are hearing his questions of intrigue as a barrage of distraction until Romo gets his first snap of the season from Gurode, at which point you involve yourself so much that you can’t remember anything accept that you didn’t breath and the television was on!!!!!
We are men cut from the same cloth! LOL
Although, I wasn’t as anxious. I had anticipated in the worst scenario that Cleveland would trade TDs with us for a while but that we’d eventually get a stop that would make the scoreboard lopsided. In something that I believed to be more rational and realistic, I envisioned pretty much the game we saw minus TO being robbed of a TD on a 6 yd slant and Romo throwing TO’s third TD to the no-named CB in the endzone. All in all, I was confident that we’d come out with a win as Cleveland is a good team, but an ailing team that has not had time to work together due to concussions and horseplay.
As for the game against the Eagles. . .I’m envisioning a game that sees us trading TDs, but eventually getting a stop that moves the board in our direction. McNabb will be McNabb, and Westbrook will be Westbrook. Likewise, Barber will be Barber, TO will be TO, Witten will be Witten, that GREAT OLine will be that GREAT OLine and most importantly – Romo will be Romo. If the D can stand up and play as well as they did against Cleveland and get some help due to the inexperienced set of WRs that the Eagles are deploying, we’ll be fine. ;)
Fun Post Nate. . .
