Dose Nate Newton belong in the HOF?
I was watching the 95 championship game. You know Nate Newton really stood out to me and Madden in that game. What are the chances that he makes it to the HOF. I know that he had went to prison, and while playing had many run ins with the law. But if you watch that game he ate Gilbert Browns lunch. Then when he pulls he looked like Lenard Davis. Also I think that Eric Williams needs to be considered.

It was being replayed
on NFL Network on Friday night and over the weekend I believe.
Thanks
Oh NFLN, how I miss you.
To answer the post, I’m not really sure what the standard resume is to be considered a HOF lineman. Newton was damn good for our dynasty run, but I’m not sure if he has the longevity, especially in light of his significant legal issues. Ditto Erik Williams, though he did at least force a rule change (no OL head-slaps), which should count for a little something.
Yeah...
You know I thought about that, but when he got to dallas they didn’t have a good team. Plus he didn’t have much help. But I do agree how, did he distinguish himself Larry Allen did. I have to agree with you how about Novacheck.

for me
my dad used to tape some games so i have
92 super bowl
93 nfc champ and super bowl
94 vs Detroit and at New Orleans
95 vs Phili (twice-inc playoffs) and at Phili, Oakland, Atlanta, and Arizona (i’m still amazed at Larry Centers)
96- playoffs at Car
97- at Pitt, Wash, and vs. Chi
98- at Phili

hell yeah he does!
but i’m a homer and he went to my alma mater so of course i’m going to say that.
but he was a key cog in several championship teams and he wasn’t just another guy. he was big, massive, strong and important to the continuity of our line.
i also would like to point out that my school does not condone the criminal activities he engaged in AFTER leaving and they’ve gone out of their way to give him grief about it.
but will he get in? probably not. he played with LA and Allen and I think Williams were the perennial Pro Bowlers on that line. LA gets in and I think Williams should too but probably won’t. Newton’s case is a lot harder to make.

+1
Incredibly nasty OT, but just too short a time at that level.

Nate belongs
… in the Ganja Hall of Fame.
Canton? No.
Keep doing what you been doing, keep getting what you been getting.
Nate was good, but he wasn't that good
the only HOF OL from the ’90s dynasty will be L.A.
In Romo we Trust
Nate will get some consideration, but Larry Allen is the only OL who will get in
The question for me is whether Darren Woodson gets in, or will he be overlooked like Cliff Harris has been overlooked

You might be right
But it’s kinda messed up – LA was only on one of the 3 SB teams, all of which had great OLs. Oh well.
that is true
but the other guys didn’t play for as long at as high a level as Allen did, though a case could be made for Newton and maybe Mark Tuinei
Lifetime Cowboys Fan from the Swamps of Jersey
Yes he will
Your right for a SAFTEY that could cover a wide out ,support the run, and blitz aside from ED Reed name another saftey today that can do all that. (Maybe Polumolu)

the cowboys bias will still be taken into account
but personally, i find no argument with you at all
In reference to how good the Steelers have been in their history: "No one is even close to them."- Steal Home
Bob Hayes, Cliff Harris, Chuck Howley, Lee Roy Jordan are not in the Hall of Fame
How the %$#& is that possibe?

All those players have a solid case for enshrinement
I’m hopeful they let Hayes in finally, he should’ve already been voted in.

Woodson should be in
but there are so many of his teammates that will definitely get in or are in (Aikman, Irvin, Smith, Allen, Sanders, maybe Charles Haley) that I can see Woodson not getting enough votes to make it.

Agree
Newton was a six time pro bowler, Stepnoski a 5 timer and E was a 4 time pro bowler. Tuinei went two times and went out in a way that left a bad taste in people’s mouths. If Newton doesn’t get in, certainly none of the others do…

Nate was darn good
But HOF good, I’d say probably not.
I agree with the other guys, LA for certain, and Woodson should seriously be considered (if it was up to me he’d be in) but I don’t think he’ll get in. Safeties don’t get a lot of love from those HOF voters.

Drew was one of my all time favorites....but if you look at his stats...he doesn't get in...
He had only 2 1,000 seasons i believe…….Tony Hill might have even put up better overall numbers…we were a very balanced attack back then, spread the ball around alot…..so none of the players from that time were gonna be awarded their just due because of it….Besides the obvious in Staubach and Tony Dorsett, Drew P) and Tony H) were awesome wideouts, pro bowl caliber, Back then 60-70 receptions would put you among the league leaders….Our supporting cast kept those two from putting up dominating HOF type numbers…….we had Golden Richards, Butch Johnson, Billie Joe Dupree, Preston Pearson, Robert Newhouse, Ron Springs, etc……sorta similiar in make up to what we have now with several excellent playmakers that will have an effect on the overall stats of each individual…..
A true diehard Cowboys fan since 1975.
"If you don’t take him off the field as a coach, he will just about die out there," Jerry Jones said. "That impacted my decision. It’s a Michael Irvin-type work ethic. That’s what we are talking about with Felix Jones."
- Owner/G.M of the Dallas Cowboys , Jerry Jones
Swann and Stallworth didn't have great stats either
but they’re in because they played on those great Steelers team and the same argument should be made for Pearson, he played on many great Cowboys teams including the SB team of ’77. He was selected to the all ’70s team so if a player can be considered one of the best of his day, he should get in.
In Romo we Trust
I agree but...
How about the plays in the clutch Staubach didn’ t catch that hail mary himself, Drew caught 3 td passes against the Giants with a sprained ankle. Then their is the Atlanta game that Danny White brought the team back by himself oh no he had help from who… yes Drew caught two TDs including the game winner, comon stats alone shouldn’t be the mesuring stick. Look the Vikings of the seventies have more players in the HOF than the boys of that era how do the NON BAIASED writers explain that.
