I was gonna post this myself.
I had wondered why the Lions kept him so long. I just figured he had some GOOD blackmail on the Ford family. Nothing else made any sense.

It took Ford's son to come out publicly
Ford’s son said he’d have already fired Millen if he could. Kind of threw his old man under the bus, but you have to wonder why he didn’t do it sooner.
