Why I hate Julius Jones

I'll admit that I was never the biggest fan of JuJo, but I kind of felt bad for him toward the end of last season.  It had become obvious that he was the 2nd best RB on the team and he was no longer getting much love.  When he got signed by the Seahawks I was even sort of happy for him.  I hoped he would be able to salvage his career somewhat.

Fast forward to last weekend.  I'm watching the recap of all the games from Sunday and lo and behold, JJ ran for 140 yards.  And then I see a highlight of his TD run and it makes me sick.  When he played for the 'Boys, at least the last 2 seasons, he would go down as soon as a defender sneezed on him.  And then I see this video of him breaking a ridiculous amout of tackles to make a huge TD run.

I don't know why he couldn't run like this for us.  I think that as fans, we were supportive of him up until the last half of the season last year.  He was our hope for the next Emmitt.  It seems like he gave up on Dallas and lost his heart.  Thanks for giving up on us Julius.

Julius can get 80-120 a game

To me that was never the question. You run him enough and sure, he’ll get the yards. The problem with him was he rarely got you the tough yards and killed countless drives that drove fans mad. I wish him well and hope he excels as a Seahawk, but we are in a better place as a team without him I assure you.

These are Jones’ runs against the worst team in football:
5, 3, 6, 1, 4, -2, -4, 7, 29, -2, 6, 0, 1, 4, 6, 32, 18, 4, -1, 4, 14, 5

These are Barber’s runs against one of the best teams in football (IMO):
2, 2, 10, 5, 2, 25, 2, 2, 3, 3, 10, 6, 2, 3, 3, 8, 8, -1, 8, 1, 2, 12, 2, 8, 0, 0, 2

Negative yards are drive killers. A two yard gain on first down might not seem like much, but it’s a big deal to an OC. By my count JJ has 10 negative carries through three games against pretty suspect defenses.

Good job

Can’t argue against the facts. JuJo will get his 2 or 3 nice gains a game if you feed him the ball enough, but also several 2 yd runs or less.

I’ll take MB3 punishing the defense and sprinkle a few El Gato runs here and there any day.

Oh I agree that we are in a better place without him

And I know it was only against the lowly Rams, but it seems like he just didn’t run with any heart or drive the last season and a half with us. And more power to him, it just kind of pisses me off.

Next Game

He’ll have 53 yards on 17 carries. Just you wait and see. I was a big JJ fan. I thought the subtraction of Parcells and the addition of Garrett would re-ignite his career. I was wrong.

oopss

Pacman should have that phrase copyrighted and put it on t-shirts, then have the team wear them on their showdown with the rams; it would be hilarious.

Why hate on Julius

I wish him well. He’s a good back. He was good in high school, and at Notre Dame and he’ll be productive in Seattle. Things didn’t work out for Julius here in Big D….But I wish him well….Until we play against him!

On The Same Day

Marion Barber had 142 yds rushing against a pretty good defense while breaking spleens Felix Jones is a monster and whatever happened to get us here you have to be happy about. I had high hopes for Jones and wish him good health,….but good riddance.

I Hope Al Harris gets well. Nobody wants to see players get injured. I’m not even sure if Barber had anything to do with it. A little writers embellishment never hurt.

Yeah I was wondering if we needed to change MB3's nickname to the "Spleen Buster"

But I couldn’t find any confirmation that it came from a Barber hit or not. I know we’re making light of the situation, but I too wish Al Harris well.

I like JuJo

cause he’s been killing for me in fantasy. So he was no good last year – he didn’t lose us that playoff game. Let him have success elsewhere. It’s not like Seattle is a threat to anyone outside of the NFC Worst.

I guess I'm a jerk

but as soon as someone leaves the cowboys, especially in the manner JuJo did, they are the enemy. I have no love for the guy and hope he fades into oblivion because the boys drafted him and paid him a lot of money and got more crying than yards from the guy.

He wants to be the man on a subpar team in the worst division is football? Go for it scrub.

Why I don't hate Julius...

Marion Barber
Felix Jones
I love our running game.

by CounterEMF on Sep 25, 2008 7:36 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Don't get me wrong

I was never a huge fan of Julius and I love our tandem right now and wouldn’t trade either one for anyone else in the league. I despise Julius because he gave up on Dallas.

In one of my fantasy football leagues,

Felix is two points behind Willy Parker so far this year. I’m playing Marion and Felix in that league, there is nothing better than winning with the players you root for.

I'd drop JuJo for Barber in a heartbeat

They don’t compare, in fantasy or in real life. I’m glad to have Felix, though!

Sometimes you just need a change of scenery.

I wish him all the success he can earn. If he works hard and performs well, I’ll be happy for him. We’ve got a couple of guys that just needed a change of scenery themselves, so I think it works both ways. I know what it’s like to just need to go somewhere else and start over, job wise.

My only beef with JuJo

is that he left town shooting his mouth off. Had he left town gracefully, knowing he wasn’t the best back we had, I would probably be cheering for him over there.

by Mandmeisterx on Sep 26, 2008 7:16 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, I agree

I had no ill-will against him until that.

However, can’t we get a better compensatory draft pick if he has a huge year? If so, go JuJo!

I didn’t think about the compensatory pick!

I'm not sure how it works

And the formula, if there is one, seems to be under lock and key, but he would be the biggest FA signing we lost. Zach may have cancelled him out, but if not, he should net us a sweet sweet 6th rounder or so!

by grapejoos on Sep 26, 2008 6:15 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Zach and Pac combined could cancel him out easily

JuJo would have to put up top 5 numbers. I don’t wish him that much luck. But I’m glad to see him have some mild success.

be fair...

JuJo’s problem (at least in my opinion) is that he was inconsistent.

He would have games that were amazing (chicago, seahawks, giants in 04, carolina in 05) and then just disappear. A WR can do that, but you cant be a good team if you running back is just as capable of going 10 for 30 as 20 for 140. JuJo had 15 games for Dallas averaging under 3 yds a carry and 8 averaging over 5. Heck he had 5 games averaging 2.0 yds a carry or less….

I think thats the reason he caused us to go nuts – he could be dominant or awful but was rarely consistent.

And I think its why you cant act surprised that he tore up the Rams and should be surprised when he averages 1.7 yards a carry in a few weeks.

Julius fits the Seattle offense better.

He plays well there for some reason. That field…that rain…that speaker-enhance 12th man BS.

West Coast offense vs. our vertical offense. MB3 and Felix make a cut and go straight ahead, much like the passing game. The Seahawks do all those quick slants, counters, and draw plays.

Julius’s leaving Dallas worked out great for both teams.

That #38 sure should wrap up!
