Don't Panic, but Don't Underreact
Most of the commentary today is "our Defense Sucks, TO is imploding, Romo will never be good enough..." Then, their will be countercommentary (probably from Spagnola) that will remind us (of the irrelevant fact) that the Skins swept us the last time we won the Super Bowl. I come as a hopefully realistic voice.
1) Since last year's Green Bay game, teams have decided to take TO out of the game, keep Romo in the pocket, and make us sustain very long drives. With TO in the lineup, we are 5-3, and TO has eight consecutive games without 100 yards.
2) The media is really tendentious. TO makes a fairly innocuous comment that he wasn't getting the ball in the first half (true), and they make it sound like he was saying he didn't get the ball in the whole game. Our best drive of the game was the first drive of the 2nd half, and it was TO-centric.
3) Romo has quieter feet in the pocket, and that's good when he's in the pocket. But he's not leaving the pocket as much, and that was where he used to make a lot of our big plays. There's a balance there, and I'm not sure he's found it yet.
4) I get it that a zone pass defense isn't going to get a lot of picks. But doesn't it seem like certain teams with a good short passing game can just play keep away against us? This reminded me of the New Orleans and Philly games in late 2006, the Washington and Pats games at home last year. Our defense has some good games (GB last week, GB last year). But I'm not at all confident that this is a Super Bowl Defense. I'm really not.
5) Wade and Jason both got outcoached yesterday. But beyond scheme, Shawn Springs outplayed TO, and Santana Moss outplayed Terence Newman. Our supposedly most elite edge players got outplayed by the supposedly less elite Redskin edge players. Our guys need to step it up.

Brian Stewart or Wade?
At what point should Wade be calling the defensive game plan if he is not already? How many times have we seen a coach step in when a coordinator is struggling? It even happened to Sean Payton when he was in New York. Wade was brought in for his killer D, and Stewart is his man. Wade needs to step in and help him out a little until Stewart is ready to be fully in charge of a Super Bowl defense. It doesn’t mean that Stewart is fired, just that he needs some guidance for awhile. Maybe then my girlfriend will quit asking me who Dom Capers is and why I keep whimpering his name in my sleep.

Based on this season
Brian Stewart is not ready.

+1
Stewart seems to get “out-coached”a lot. Not every game, but enough to make it a valid question.

Good points Tim
I do think that the TO comments have been blown out of proportion, but that he still probably said a few things that he shouldn’t have.

I agree on all points
Romo needs to get his playground mentality back and stop worrying about mistakes, he should just allow his natural instincts take over and he’ll make tons of plays. I think trying to emulate Tom Brady maybe was a mistake.
The defense certainly isn’t playing at a championship level right now, but neither was the Giants for the most of the season last year until December, then they started playing at a championship level. Our defense has the talent, I just think they are a work in progress and will get better as the season goes on.

How about don't abondon your running game
We have 3 guys (Flo, Gurode, Bigg) on the line who went to the Pro-Bowl, and Colombo who is playing at the same level, not to mention TE’s Witten (Pro-Bowl) and Curtis, a very good blocker . Throw in MB3 (Pro-Bowl) and El Gato (1st round pick) as your RB’s.
Now, somebody tell me rationally, how you only run the ball 11 times (one of those a QB scramble) in a game where you are never more than 10 points behind, and mostly tied or down by 7. It’s inexplicable.

i agree that this defense
is FAR from a championship defense
its a shame we spent all this money on CB’s to line them up 10 yards off the ball.
