Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Adam Jones will start for Terence Newman

Yup, I was away from the computer almost the entire day and didn’t get to post anything or even read Cowboys news. I’m a slacker. Anyway, here’s the news that Wade hinted at in the press conference yesterday.

With cornerback Terence Newman hobbled with a groin injury, Adam Jones will start Sunday's regular-season opener at Cleveland.

[snip]

Newman, listed as questionable on the injury report, could play on some passing downs Sunday. If he can't play, the cornerback would miss the start of a season for the second consecutive year.

Wow, it’s gone from maybe not starting to maybe not playing. Orlando Scandrick will be the slot guy in the dime, with Mike Jenkins working the outside corner in the formation for Anthony Henry. Thank goodness Adam Jones is here this year. C’mon T-New, we need you to get healthy.

On Monday, we could be signing a new QB. It could be Brooks Bollinger or it could be Chris Simms. Here’s Jerry’s reasoning on why they’re going to do it, if they actually do.

"We ideally would like to have a veteran who has a chance to move in for Brad Johnson at some point in the future, the future (meaning) not necessarily this year" Jones said on The Ticket. "There may be the chance to pick up the veteran we like."

Mike Jefferson might be on the roster come gameday.

The Cowboys were contemplating moving wide receiver Mike Jefferson to the 53-man roster to give them a fourth wide receiver for the game. If they did that, likely on Saturday, the Cowboys seemingly would release Marten or possibly Alan Ball, who also could be inactive for the game.

Jefferson made the trip to Cleveland, Amendola didn’t.

Zach Thomas is ready for another season.

T-Newman is a good CB, but....

30+ plus year CB with a fat new contract. Hurt last season, now again this season. He’s showing signs of breaking down….yeah not good….Thank god Pacman like Grizz said…

Newman's OK

The coaching staff is being cautious in rushing him back into full time active duty. A luxury they didn’t have last season.

I like it

Let’s add Mike Jefferson to the roster and release Marten..

I think T-New will be ready, not to start, but to contribute.

thank goodness for depth at CB

it does make you wonder about T-New, since all we’ve been hearing is how it was more precautionary and he was coming along and could have played in the preseason game, and all of a sudden he might not player in the opener?

But that is why we have the depth we do now. Last year when he went out we were in bad shape. this year there’s an unknown with Pac out a year and 2 rookies, but all 3 of them could and should be very good CBs. There might be some drop-off from T-New at his best since he is one of the best, but not nearly as much as last year. And even though we say he’s so good he can just step in and do what he knows how to do without having been through all of camp and preseason, even the best players need reps to perform at their peak. So Pac may not be any drop-off at all from where T-New is right now. I have confidence in him and the other two. Even with him out, our 4th CB is probably as good as their 1st. So I’m not too worried about the game.

But I do worry about T-New and hope it is just a matter of wanting to ease him back into things, and not some lingering thing that as part of a pattern starts to indicate a body wearing out and a career on the decline.

that's always possible too

it’s really hard to tell when it comes to injuries if he’s being sly or just wishy washy.

Plus unlike Reeves

who seemed to get worse as the season went on last year, Pacman and the rooks should only get better the more they play.

Why isn't Henry playing?

Is there an injury or something I am not aware of? He is still way better than the rookies we just drafted — he needs to be starting right corner if he’s physically able.

Henry is starting

at right corner and will move into the slot against K2.

I'm not worried about T New at all

groin injuries are like hamstrings, you shouldn’t play unless you’re 100% healed. We have enough depth at CB this season that him being out a game or 2 won’t hurt us.

I agree

it wasn’t an injury I’d attribute to age. He was hit in an awkward position. He’ll be back. Be even with his injuries the team won games last season and that was with worse back-ups than the team has going into this game. I feel better about this situation than I do about Kosier’s and Spencer’s absence.

no need to rush

we got the talent to afford T-New the time to get 100% healthy.
Im hoping Kosier"s absence is"nt really that noticeable.

at least managment stuck to there guns and....

went out and fixed the prob at db, and they didn’t stop at aj, with some time under there belts these rooks could become verry good…..i just dont like the fack that wade like the zone so much….i understand it gives us a chance to get more picks but it also allows timing ofences or 3 step drops to pick us apart………so i hope they mix man and zone enough to confuze everyone….

I don't need a compass to know which way the wind shines....
