Marten has been cut
I'm trying to escape New York before Hurricane Hanna hits the area, but wanted to update you on two Cowboys roster moves that just went down. Former third-round draft choice James Marten, who moved from tackle to guard, was released Saturday morning to make room for wide receiver Mike Jefferson, who's going to be activated from the practice squad.

With Stanback still suffering with a shoulder injury, it only makes sense that the cowboys activate Jefferson to the active roster. It's just not a smart idea to go into a game with only three receivers, with one still injured.
If Marten clears waivers, dallas will probably sign him to the practice squad

Not surprising...
But I thought they would go sign a vet rather than add Jefferson. I can’t imagine Jason Garrett having much confidence in him.

even if they thought there was a decent veteran out there
they aren’t going to sign him before the first game and be locked into his contract for the season.
on top of that, even with Jefferson’s inexperience no veteran who is available would be able to come in without having practiced with Romo and be able to contribute any more than Jefferson will.
Besides, chances are he’s just insurance in case one of the other guys goes down, and I doubt he’ll see any snaps, and if he does see a few it will be more as a decoy, unless the Boys have the game well in hand and they want to stick him in to get him some live game reps in garbage time.

Martin? Who know this may accually be a good thing.
If no one picks him up, fine. If someone picks him up, fine. While I would hate to lose a 3rd round pick so soon, Its clear that even after a year of practice and wt. room work he is still along way from being anything useful. I’m sure he was part of the line that caused Bartel to be hasseled in the 3rd and 4th quarter by the scrubs from Minnisota; Not that Free did better late either. Really, would it break your heart if he did go to a down the road team?

No it wouldn't
and I agree with you that it would suck to lose a 3rd rounder but think about the fact that we picked up Pacman (former 1st rounder) and Tank (former 2nd rounder) for pennies on the dollar. Jerry’s wheeling and dealing makes up for the team’s seeming inability to draft good O-lineman.

I had the feeling this whole time,
that Marten was a dead man walking and that the only reason he made it on the roster this long was because Trader Jerry was looking to deal one of our 158 OL on the roster. I think they realized it wasn’t a possibility, and now we’re going to see Marten go, as I highly doubt he will clear waivers. (Yes, teams are that desperate for offensive linemen.)

Good move
Cut a guy who wasn’t going to be active, hope he clears waivers (or not really) and put him on the PS. Bring up an extra WR just in case. Maybe he can contribute on ST somehow.

Who's your vote if Marten is claimed?
Anyone have an opinion on who they would like to see on the PS if Marten is claimed off of waivers? Or put on the PS instead of Marten even if he does clear?
I know we have a bunch of projects already, but personally I wouldn’t mind seeing Lowber put on the PS.

Can we teach
Lowber out to return kicks and punts? With his speed Lowber could be an asset if he can be a ST specialist.
I say if we don’t think so, what about Lattimore, especially with two physical MB3 works..

Lattimore gets my vote
But they already have Coleman, so maybe after they sign another QB, Jefferson goes back to the PS.

pass rusher
Is another option, especially with Spencer hurt.

That's why George was signed to the practice squad
Ofcource the organization had another brain freeze by releasing a pass rusher in Walden, that will turn out to be a mistake.
I think Dallas will either try to get a Marten back on the practice roster if no one signs him or sign another Offensive linemen
