"New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is expected to miss the rest of the 2008 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, according to a source familiar with the injury.

While New England coach Bill Belichick said in his postgame press conference that he had no update on the status of Brady’s injury, two sources indicated it involved serious damage to the knee.

“It’s bad,” a team source said. “We’re going to have to play without him.”

Wow is all I can say.

Hopefully it's not like

when Bledsoe got hurt and Brady came on and led them to a Super Bowl.

man

If this a situation were you want to say I told you so, go right ahead.

I feel bad for Tom and New England, and this opens the door for someone else, but I wouldn’t have signed with New England waiting for yesterday to occur..

What a Loss

The Patriots have been fortunate to have had Brady start every game for over six straight years, and New England’s strength has shifted over the years from their defense to Brady’s passing.

I thought New England was going to win about 12 games this year, prior to the injury. Now I’d say they will be lucky to get nine. They are fortunate to be in a weak division, but then again the Jets could bounce back and win it.

For the sake of the game, let’s hope he comes back strong next year. He’s one of the top two players in the league.

they are going to have to lineup and run the football

That secondary isn’t good..

Is it wrong?

To be so happy about Brady getting hurt, it somehow seems a little wrong. I’m damn near giddy, I can’t wait to watch the Patriots go splat.

I can't stand the Patriots, but it's never good to see a player injured like that.

Hell, what if it were Romo?

Me Too

I hate the Patriots, but cheering an injury is not sportsmanlike.

by kindablue on Sep 7, 2008 8:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good point

then I remember I don’t really have any class. Tom Brady is just so….perfect, it’s revolting. If he never plays another snap again he’ll still make the HOF. I’m not generally a person that gets happy over things like this, but this time I just can’t help it.

dude

1. bad karma

2. i think this team is good enough to play with the pats. especially with all our cb depth. i was hoping we would get a chance to play them in in tampa.

3. brady being out may increase the chance of other teams winning the lombardi, but it also dimishes the calue of the trophy a bit. i was hoping for a clash of the titans and we needed brady for that

I'm not saying it's right...

1. Bad Karma off of laughing about a highly paid professional athele(who plays for a team I particularly dislike) getting hurt I can take.

2. No certainty New England makes it to the Super Bowl, I’d rather play San Diego, or Jacksonville

3. Brady’s injury might diminish it in your mind, but not mine. Those are the breaks…so to speak of Pro Football. An injury propelled Brady into the spotlight, maybe this is HIS Karma…

Karma

I have to say, Brady’s injury seems like proof that there is such a thing as bad karma. The football gods paid attention last year. I do feel bad for him, though. That injury looks really bad, the way his knee kinda snapped back.

by grapejoos on Sep 8, 2008 11:52 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

brady

Brady getting hurt doesn’t diminish the value of the winning the superbowl.

Last year Indy had Marvin hurt, San Diego had Phillp Rivers, LT, and Gates hurt, We had TO who wasn’t 100% last year. You can’t take that away from NYG.

Pats are bringing in Chris Simms tomorrow

And Rattay according to Chris Mortenson

Culpepper seems like a logical choice to me. Works well out of the shotgun, history with Moss, throws a good deep ball. Mobility wouldn’t really be an issue with that supporting cast on offense. Cassel can’t take them to the playoffs period.

He Would Have to Come Out of Retirement

Not saying he’ll automatically say no, but it’s a little different than signing a guy who is still looking for a job.

by kindablue on Sep 7, 2008 9:09 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Don't kid yourself

Culpepper’s retirement letter was one big “Wah” because teams weren’t begging him to start. Could it be that Culpepper to Moss gets reborn in New England?

I think it sucks when marquee players (or anyone) gets hurt like this because it hurts the game but then again, karma’s a biatch. Seriously, all the attitude and cheating the Pats were accused of last year and they blow the super bowl after a perfect season and start out the next year by losing their star QB.

The football gods have spoken.

by Billito on Sep 7, 2008 9:58 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

They could seriously be looking at a 5-8 win season

IMO, they were already iffy with a poor secondary, offensive line that couldn’t keep Brady upright, and their special teams made OURS look special in the preseason.

Losing Brady makes this a very, very, very average team.

I pray that we never have to deal with this kind of horror.

by mhuff13 on Sep 7, 2008 9:52 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

The Pats simply aren’t that good without Brady. I have not seen Cassel play this year but he was awful in the preseason.

Right now the Colts are getting worked by the Bears. Might be a year of change in the NFL. I hate to say it, but Brady going down has to help our chances of winning it all just a little.

I'm really high on Pittsburgh

I’m just not sold on San Diego. I think Pittsburgh could eventually be the AFC favorite.

by mhuff13 on Sep 7, 2008 10:27 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

it's possible

the good thing is they have one of, if not the hardest schedule in the league, so they will have a chance to prove it.

Also

That really sucks. I hate the Pats, but I hope Brady can come back strong. I need my villains.

Can't stand the Pats or Tom

but I hate to see anyone suffer a season-ending injury. I would’ve liked nothing else than to hand Brady his second consecutive Super Bowl loss.

All of a sudden the NFL looks like the Cowboys and then everyone else.

Don't be so fast to anoint us

I really think Philly is a very very dangerous team this year. If we have 11 penalties against them, we might not be so fortunate.

what?

Dallas get 11 every week, they even make new rules just for the Cowboys to throw more flags.

May be multiple ligamnets

NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports that in addition to a torn ACL, Tom Brady may have damaged his MCL in Sunday’s game.
This aligns with a Yahoo report that Brady has ligament damage aside from just the ACL. MCL damage can cause additional swelling that delays surgery, and ultimately recovery time. The Pats may opt to have Brady’s knee reconstructed as soon as possible, expediting his placement on I.R.

Man I don't like Brady at all

But just wow….that’s very bad if it’s multiple ligaments. He may never be the same again. Shame to see any great player go down like this…

guys have never came back from that injury period

if its acl and mcl….much less just not be the same……..patriots aside….2 days ago this guy was on top of the world…..now……..i feel very sorry for him…….but wasnt his foot bothering him too? and it was the same one that was fucked up during the SB….

imagine being Bill Bellichek going to sleep tonight…….or all the other guys on that team that have basically went from SB contender to maybe .500 team for something that was completely out of their control

crazy thing about ACL's

It usually affects a player 2 years, so we could see no Brady this year, and a healing Brady next year.

Only good thing is it happened very early in the season..

That's my thinking

out this year, and still healing next year, I think he will play, but will not be the same player. I don’t care what they say, he will be watching the pass rush next year..
