Around SBN: Keith Hernandez Reacts To Gary Carter's Passing

Romo has to take it to the next level.

He's very, very good, no doubt about it.  But, he needs a little more ball security to be on the level of Brady and Peyton Manning, or former Cowboys greats.  Particularly inside the 20s, where he had another turnover this past Sunday.

He had 7 turnovers inside our or their 20 last year, and the one against the Browns looked real similar to the one in preseason that everyone said was just because it was the preseason ( I think they even tried to blame it on Jason Witten somehow).  They're trying to say this one was because of Felix Jones, but the fact is, the receiver was blanketed.

Romo has to learn to throw it out of the end zone, or even take the sack when nothing's open, because not only does it leave points on the board, but it can cause a huge shift in the momentum and possibly be a 14 point swing (the 7 we could have scored plus the seven they might score from the turnover + momentum).

Last year the Cowboys scoring percentage inside the Red Zone was .857, which was below the league average of .861.  While it might seem not that far off from the league average, this team and QB are supposed to be elite, not just below mediocre.  The average on Sunday was .853.  Even if you credit the Cowboys with a score on that last drive, that's .800 - below average.

I don't want him to stop being gutsy, but he has to be more brainy at the same time.  I think that's the last piece to the puzzle that ends with the Lombardi Trophy.

Romo will continue to improve

and eventually he’ll become a better qb than both Brady and Manning combined, however, as frustrating as it might be sometimes, you’ll not going to take the gunslinger Favre out of him.

Every qb has their flaws and with Romo, throwing dumb INTs every once in a while is his.

Don’t sweat it, if he didn’t have this flaw, he wouldn’t be human, he’d be a perfect god. It won’t matter because he’ll get us at least a few SB titles when its all said and done.

In Romo we Trust

+1 Terry

With Romo you can live with the occasional stupid INT….as long as we’re up 18 when he does it…HaHa!

I agree with you

Romo gets too antsy inside the 20s – it’s sort of the last remaining place where he plays the frenetic way we saw when he first came in. I think he’ll get the picture with 2 endzone INTs in his last 2 games, but it is a problem and a legitimate reason for concern. Thankfully, it’s a relatively easy fix.
