I think the Titans will win the SB

They look like the most complete team to me and Fisher is a great HC.

Interesting

The Titans kicked the ball into the endzone to start the game. I wonder if Bruce Read noticed no flag was thrown.

Chris Johnson

reminds me how much we truly missed the Cat the second half of the season. I think we beat the Ravens with him playing after seeing what CJ just did on that drive.

but fans want perfection from Romo and this just shows that all qbs make these kind of TOs, its inevitable if you’re playing qb.

Just throw it away everytime

Who cares if you’re still in the tackle box and it will be a 10 yard penalty and a loss of down. It’s better than a turnover.

by hiafex on Jan 10, 2009 4:53 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No, I just learned something

it is the smart play because you give your receiver a chance to make a play.

I assume the blame also goes to the receiver for not making that play.

Food for Thought

I know I am not uncovering anything new, however, think about the boys December schedule. All four teams from that month are at least in the second round of the playoffs, and 1 is in the third so far. At the very least two of the december teams they played are making it to the Championship round. That was a pretty brutal stretch of games. Maybe just maybe the boys laying an egg against PHI was partly due to playing three of the most physical teams in football and then facing a fourth. Maybe, things are not so bad and with a little more fortune from a health standpoint the boys can return to their 2007 form, and actually finish.

Ray Lewis, would be a really nice addition from a leadership standpoint, I think Bart Scott will command more money, and is out of our league.

If Pittsburgh and Phillys wins, which is very possible, we would have lost to 3 out of the 4 best teams in football in December.

Perhaps we can all pause and reflect

Jeff Fisher, a guy on the bubble last year, who many would have loved to come to dallas as the HC, and rightfully so.

Such a thing as happened to WP last year couldnt possibly happen to a great coach like JF could it?

He couldnt go 13-3, be the #1 seed, and lose at home in his first playoff game could he?

And who needs a little luck in the playoffs?

Great teams dont need any luck, that never plays a part.

Joe Flacco doesn’t clearly fail to get a snap off before the play clock winds down, yet somehow the officials miss it this time, when they’ve hit it every time in the past. somehow, on a critical drive late in the game, the officials miss a clear, key call.

somehow, the titans cough up the ball in the red zone, three times, after driving it down nearly at will.

somehow, flaco throws a prayer into double coverage and both defenders fall down while the WR comes down with it, setting up the second field goal.

And a Tenn RB, running all over the ravens in the first half, goes down for the 2nd.

Luck? or skill on the part of the ravens?

The Titans cough up a hairball after 13-3 and a top seed.

They commit three turnovers inside the Ravens 20.

They commit 12 penalties.

They clearly lack discipline.

Should the Titans fire Jeff Fisher? What’s he ever won? Mike Shanahan is available…

Just a question

Tennessee seemed to move the ball pretty well. But, arguably, the best athlete in that stadium was sitting on the sideline – Vince Young. He showed that he isn’t a legitimate NFL QB. But why wasn’t he used in some other way? (Trick plays, WR, Kick Returner, Hell, running down on Kicks). Are teams that concerned about players’ egos that they won’t use them outside their chosen position in the playoffs?

Funny what we "know"

Watching Lendale White run tonight made me think of something I hadn’t thought of in awhile.

Lendale White ran at USC with a kid named Reggie Bush.

Reggie and Lendale came out in the same year, 2006.

Houston held the first overall in 2006.

They passed on Bush and took Mario Williams. “Huh?” said the world.

Charlie Casserly was instantly crucified, villified, and pardon the expression, in all other ways verbally “boo-fooed” for what was considered one of the dumbest moves in NFL history.

Never mind his rationale that the texans were in the same division as the dominant colts, and any chance they ever had of competing with them would come at least largely from an ability to pressure manning, so why not take a pass rusher? Word was bush wasn’t an every down back anyway right?

Wrong.

Everyone just “knew” bush was the best pick. it was so obvious right?

I mean, every pundit, sportswriter, and fan just “knew” bush was the clearcut right choice for the 1st overall pick. And with providence staring them in the face, these idiot texans passed it up. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory!!

Everyone just “knew” reggie bush would deliver the texans from mediocrity.

And initially, the facts seemed to back them up. The texans stayed where they were, and the electric bush was a big part of the saint’s (who took him with the 2nd) run to the championship game. Williams had a measly 4.5 sacks, while bush exploded with 1300 all purpose yards under new coach sean payton (and galloway lamented on what an idiot JJ was for letting HIM get away).

Then something happened. In his next two seasons, williams put up 26 sacks, while bush faded. Since then he has had 900 and 1000 all purpose yards, and the saints have slipped badly, under the boy wonder that was sean payton.

No one says a thing now. No one goes back and says, “hmm, maybe the texans were the smart ones for not buying the hype.”

And now, everyone just “knows” JJ should dump WP and blow the thing up. Everyone just “knows” that one big name coach will solve all our problems.

But we all know that pundits, sportswriters, and many fans have a memory about as deep as a puddle.

No,

Fans were calling for Wade and Romo’s head after the Giants loss. That’s when the whole Camp Cupcake nonsense erupted, and the Romo shoud hide in a bunker in his off-week and not have sex nonsense started.

It amplified after the Eagles game but if you think it wasn’t around a year ago, you’re mistaken.

You're right Raf, being disappointed last year was totally unfounded

Give me a break. the 2008 Cowboys horribly underachieved and were undisciplined. Tony Romo regressed and made a ton of bad decisions that cost the team. If it makes you feel better to run down Jeff Fischer, so be it. I’ll take his body of work over Wade Phillips any day. Sarcasm can’t paper over the disappointment of 2008 Dallas Cowboys.

by StillHateTheGiants on Jan 10, 2009 7:29 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Being disapointed last year was not unfounded

We were the number 1 seed. We were 11-1 before we started resting players and our only loss was to the undefeated Patriots. Being disappointed and unhappy about the result of that game is completely reasonable

Me and Raf (I’m taking the liberty of speaking for him) and others aren’t denigrating Jeff Fisher…he’s a great coach. The Titans are a great team. The point of the posts were, as great as he is, there will be those fans who now want his head.

The Cajun Cannon has three or so 20-plus turnover seasons.

And there’s a fair chance they could host the NFC Championship Game next week.

agred

wow. just wow

after watching the playoffs the last 3 years, i’m convinced that the regular season means absolutely nothing. you can’t judge anything at all based on the regular season. or even play in december. People talked last year about the team wrongly thinking they can “turn it on”…well…what do the cards do? they didn’t just flip the switch, they went from playing the worst football in the league to elite football.

apparently we aren’t the only team with turnover problems lol. i still can’t believe tennessee lost. they were imo clearly the best team in the afc this year, probably the nfland turnovers and a missed field goal do them in. and their lead rb getting hurt. and a bad no call for that delay of game. ridiculous. i feel like the significantly better team lost that game.

i swear, the more i watch this league, the more i begin to think that winning a superbowl is jsut pure luck – happening to play well at the right time and taking advantage of better teams having a bye week. we could be looking at a playoffs where the 5 best teams in the league (steelers, titans, colts, giants, panthers) don’t win a single game!! I know this hasn’t happened yet, but imagine championship games with the eagles, cardinals, and chargers – the eagles and chargers were huge longshots to make the playoffs in week 15. the cardinals didn’t even try in december lol.

i guess...

but what gives the cardinals the right to even be in this game?? We were competitive against top competition in december and they didn’t even look ready to play relatively weak teams. Give them our schedule and they finish with 7 or less wins. Heck the redskins are probably a better team than they are. Same idea goes with san diego. Neither of those teams should be playing.

only legit team left if az wins is the giants

Pitt and Baltimore are well below average offensively. I can’t comprehend a team winning the superbowl with an oline as bad as Pitt. San Diego is a disaster, i guess they’re playing well now, but the bottom line is put them in the east, north or south divisions in either conference and they probably don’t get a whiff of the playoffs.

I get that it was a joke,

but there is a big difference between our team last year and this years Panthers. First we were the #1 seed and we went 11-1 to start the season before we started to rest players. Our play in the regular season was better and our expectations were higher

It may be too late for halftime adjustments.

double adjustments

With this kind of a lead, Smith cannot overtake Fitzgerald. All Warner and Fitz have to do...

is match points the rest of the way. The way they’re playing, that should be easy.

I kept hearing that the Panthers

are the most balanced team in the league.

Things can get away from you in the NFL. A trillion variables on each play, and mistakes can compound, and just like a car swerving and overcompensatiing on the highway..BLAMMO. out of control

Arizona has creative pass plays

Wow, its good to see creative passing plays/patterns by an offense…..

by ButchJohnson on Jan 10, 2009 8:45 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

And movement before the snap

I didnt even know that was allowed in the NFL anymore

I hate to get down on the Cowboys, but.....

it doesn’t matter much how creative the plays are when the OL is a seive, the QB throws to the other guys, or puts it on the gound on first contact, or your Star receiver drops passes when the ball hits him in both hands. The Cowboys go into every game with four motion calls, two or three PI calls, three holding calls, two or three lost fumbles, three interceptions, and four dropped passes, before the game clock starts. How can we win like that.

so what did you think of the '05 and '06 Cowboys?

Cause Todd Haley was putting Dallas’ pass offense together then.

by Rafael Vela on Jan 10, 2009 9:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Come to think of it

Those two Dallas teams were 9-7.

So was this year’s Cards team.

As was this year's Cowboys team

with TO’s best friend coaching the WR’s instead of Haley.

Goes to show

Even when an offensive weapon (Fitz) is keyed on he can still get open by movement and scheme…

by ButchJohnson on Jan 10, 2009 8:47 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I don't know

They don’t have to motion Fitz all around the field to get open. Hell, he even lines up as the Split End on the line of scrimmage and beats press coverage. I wish somebody would teach our wideouts could do that.

Todd Haley

is doing pretty well for himself since TO ran him out of town. He doesn’t seem to have a problem with the AZ wideouts… And he got a lot more out of TO that Sherman did this year. Maybe being TO’s best friend isn’t the best way to be a coach.

Yeah, TO really had a different year this year than his first year when haley was the coach.

All of about 130 yards difference. Granted he had 13 TDs his first year and only 10 this year, but romo did sit out three games.

Owens only played 14 1/2 last yeaar

thats right. he played all the games in his first year.

and last year (haley was in zona) TO put up even better numbers than in his first year when he only played in 14 1/2 games.

so im not buying jimmy’s argument that haley got alot more out of TO than sherman did.

They've made the comment a couple times about Flacco being the first ever rookie to win two playoff games

what am I missing with that statement. Didn’t Marino and Roethlisberger win a couple of playoff games as a rookie?

by staubachfan on Jan 10, 2009 8:59 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Roeth only won 1 didnt he?

He went 13-3 in the regular season then won the Divisionals but lost in the Championship game

by THEjarhead on Jan 10, 2009 9:03 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No

Ben won one. Lost in the AFC title game to N.E.

Marino lost in the divisional round to Oakland.

Yea I just looked it up

I would have bet money that Marino was in the SB his rookie year.

Halftime and the panthers have to be wondering why zona didnt get the memo

Wow,
turnovers.

didnt that guy who coaches the cowboys, wade phillips or something, didnt he mention in his last presser how much better dallas would have done if they hadn’t have turned the ball over so much?

didnt hear one pundit say, “you know, that guy has a point. dallas really turned it over way too much. if they can get to the positive on TO ratio, they’ll win some more games.”

Just ask tenn and, unless the panthers really turn it on, just ask them too.
