Thought I would introduce a different perspective on the 'TO must Go' debate. As with Grizz post earlier, I am ambivalent. His productivity, while in decline, will be missed. Don't think that's arguable. His influence is substantial and too often, negative.
While opposing sides of that argument have been raised and debated ad infinitem/nauseam, I believe the most compelling factor has been relatively under discussed.
Our stated offseason goal is to sign/extend DWare. 'Nuff said, no argument. That alone will probably cost us Chris Canty for better or worse. Add to that a decision we have to make on S Roy Williams. That's about $6.62MM cap hit if we let him go from what I understand.
So I pose the following:
1) Who in their right mind is going to willingly incur $13-14MM in 'Dead Money' then have to sign what may turn out to be the richest player contract in team history ?
2) Given the 'logical' response to #1, it now becomes a choice - between someone who can still play and someone, well, not so much.
Personalities aside, I think caponomics will force this decision. Or, in my opinion, non-decision. Anyone want to argue the case for keeping OU R Willy vs TO, I'm listening. But skeptical.
