Dude I'm not saying he has to have that much time every play. But he never had that kind of time.

IF he had that at least some of the time the opposing D would be off balance and we would be able to mix up plays. Our OC would look a lot smarter if the O line played better.

common sense

Did anyone catch the Mick Spagnola article about “common sense”? It was absolutely depressing to read. He’s usually been the mouth piece for what Jerry is thinking. From that article we should be scream Oh yeah!!! 9-7 what an awesome season. Gimme some more of that. So everyone get excited we went 9-7. With a little luck, we may be able to get to somewhere close to that next year.

He was making a Cupcakesk excuse for failure

It sounded similar to the “lots of good teams have penalties” instead of we have to improve in that area. He made it sound like we were lucky not to be 11-5 instead of reality, which is we were probably lucky to be 9-7. He failed to mention the second most turnovers in the league, the leaky pass protection, and the many blown assignments. Not to mention that this defense was rank poorly where it counts—— Points per game.
Sometimes you need to be negative in order to correct whats wrong. Campo was extremely positive when he was a head coach.

After having watched the games to this point, we should be ashamed of ourselves for not making the playoffs. We could have beaten any one of these four teams with the team and the coaching staff we have now. Our fans really overreact if we don’t win it all.

by cottonbowl on Jan 18, 2009 6:26 PM CST reply actions

I have to disagree

Its not like we have anyone else to blame. We played alot of these team and lost to the Eagles, Giants, Cardinals, Ravens and the Steelers. So I dont think we could have beaten these teams

NO NO NO

This team consistently lost to all of those teams. Against the final four teams the cowboys record was 1-5. The one win against philly, and it was extremely close and could have gone either way.

by just4fun on Jan 18, 2009 6:34 PM CST up reply actions

Well the Balt game and the Steelers game could have gone either way.

So thats irrelevant, but whats importantis the 1-5. Which is actually 1-4

two 70+ runs is not an accident

Those weren’t freak plays. Dallas could have had another 10 min and would have lost by even more points, the defense was done.
The record was still 1-5. Detroit lost a lot of close games too.

It's a lot different

there coach and qb have won playoff games and gone to a superbowl. This team needs to stop acting like they have done anything, they have done nothing. Wade has never won a playoff game. Romo has never won a playoff game. Stop acting like we they lost superbowl last year. They were pathetic this year and are in decline.

Tats a different situation

The Eagles and Cowboys are both teams that have had the talent to win the SB the last few of years. So for tem to continually fall short, makes it reasonable to expet the fans to become unsettled.

Our talent is lacking on the O-line and D-line, and that's were it counts

Unfortunately, the Flozell is signed to a long term deal, as are many of the other overrated linemen. Our qbs threw 20 ints this year. Our 1 wr can’t beat press coverage, and our best db can’t stay on the field. Neither DE stands a good chance of returning.

It's okay

I just saw a team play sloppy, poorly focused football that does not win games. Our O-line talent is probably the most overrated part of the team. Romo is good, but he needs a coach that is constantly in his ear to prevent him from being a turn over machine.
My concern is that Jerry seems to hang on to players and coaches too long. He is too afraid to pull the trigger when it’s clear you need to change. If this team when 9-7 but played very well and had key injuries and a very tough schedule I’d agree, but this team stayed realively healthy, and consistently caved in when it counted. It’s clear Wade lost the team in the last game. There’s no way he should be the coach right now.

by just4fun on Jan 18, 2009 7:10 PM CST up reply actions

I really can't argue with you on these points

I supported Wade until the end, but also thought he deserved to go.

And the O-line depends on a healthy Flozell and KK, so it certainly failed this year. Not sure if you can say it is so overrated… they broke all kinds of cowboys offensive numbers last year with this same line.

We have young talent at most positions, and “in decline” just doesn’t ring true.

Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill, Tony Dorsett, Emmitt Smith ... and now BOTH Marion Barber and Felix Jones

by DalaiLuke on Jan 18, 2009 7:16 PM CST up reply actions

In decline...

Because the same coaches are there, so you will have the same inconsistent play. Flozell seems to play harder when he has a contract to play, and a false start is a big deal (league leader). With a different coach, certainly it could improve dramatically, i just hope Romo doesn’t get killed in the process.
And T-new needs to be replaced (not cut just, need a new #1 corner) because he apparently can’t stay healthy. It’s why the eagles sign Asante Samuel, when Lito Shepard couldn’t stay healthy a couple years in a row.

The Ravens and the Steelers have both been “kissed on the dick by a good fairie” to get here. The Ravens several times in Tennessee and Big Ben on that half blind TD throw to Holmes. That was the same play Romo made last year vs. the Giants, only Holmes caught his and Crayton dropped his.
