Since the first playoff open thread was so long already, I decided to make an overflow thread for the Ravens/Steelers game.
This is an open thread for the second playoff game,

Dude I'm not saying he has to have that much time every play. But he never had that kind of time.
IF he had that at least some of the time the opposing D would be off balance and we would be able to mix up plays. Our OC would look a lot smarter if the O line played better.
well yeah. but it's a which came first thing. if it's obvious our o-line can't protect, then the smart thing to do is not hope for miracles and throw it short so that defenses can't tee off on our qb.

common sense
Did anyone catch the Mick Spagnola article about “common sense”? It was absolutely depressing to read. He’s usually been the mouth piece for what Jerry is thinking. From that article we should be scream Oh yeah!!! 9-7 what an awesome season. Gimme some more of that. So everyone get excited we went 9-7. With a little luck, we may be able to get to somewhere close to that next year.
I read the article and thoughtit waspretty good
He wasnt as much saing we should get exited or be happy with 9-7, but that 9-7 isnt as bad as its being made out ot be. He was jut commenting on how hard it is to win in hte NFL

He was making a Cupcakesk excuse for failure
It sounded similar to the “lots of good teams have penalties” instead of we have to improve in that area. He made it sound like we were lucky not to be 11-5 instead of reality, which is we were probably lucky to be 9-7. He failed to mention the second most turnovers in the league, the leaky pass protection, and the many blown assignments. Not to mention that this defense was rank poorly where it counts—— Points per game.
Sometimes you need to be negative in order to correct whats wrong. Campo was extremely positive when he was a head coach.
Spags isnt a HC though is he
He’s a writer employed by the DC and presented an argument as to why fans shouldnt be overly upset with this season. Ie got nothing against that.

Post Season
After having watched the games to this point, we should be ashamed of ourselves for not making the playoffs. We could have beaten any one of these four teams with the team and the coaching staff we have now. Our fans really overreact if we don’t win it all.
I have to disagree
Its not like we have anyone else to blame. We played alot of these team and lost to the Eagles, Giants, Cardinals, Ravens and the Steelers. So I dont think we could have beaten these teams

NO NO NO
This team consistently lost to all of those teams. Against the final four teams the cowboys record was 1-5. The one win against philly, and it was extremely close and could have gone either way.
Well the Balt game and the Steelers game could have gone either way.
So thats irrelevant, but whats importantis the 1-5. Which is actually 1-4

two 70+ runs is not an accident
Those weren’t freak plays. Dallas could have had another 10 min and would have lost by even more points, the defense was done.
The record was still 1-5. Detroit lost a lot of close games too.
When its the only time its ever happened in NFL history
thats classified as a freak play. And the record was 1-4 not 1-5

I agree we lost to all of these teams so we did not deserve to be in the playoffs let alone the NFC championship.
However, if we would have beaten baltimore they and Phil would not be in the playoffs. That’s how close it is.
But the thing is they won.

It's a lot different
there coach and qb have won playoff games and gone to a superbowl. This team needs to stop acting like they have done anything, they have done nothing. Wade has never won a playoff game. Romo has never won a playoff game. Stop acting like we they lost superbowl last year. They were pathetic this year and are in decline.
Well the Eagles havent done anything either
They havent won a SB, so they are equally as unsuccesful as of this decade

Tats a different situation
The Eagles and Cowboys are both teams that have had the talent to win the SB the last few of years. So for tem to continually fall short, makes it reasonable to expet the fans to become unsettled.

Look at our roster.
We are ore talented than anyone else in the playoffs. We dont deserve to win this yar, but our taent is undeniable

Our talent is lacking on the O-line and D-line, and that's were it counts
Unfortunately, the Flozell is signed to a long term deal, as are many of the other overrated linemen. Our qbs threw 20 ints this year. Our 1 wr can’t beat press coverage, and our best db can’t stay on the field. Neither DE stands a good chance of returning.
Our #1 WR can beat press if he is helped by the OCs scheme
Whch isnt a matter of talent. And Newman would not have been out for so long if he was correctly diagnosed in the first place

LOL just4, I'm kinda messin with you...
hope you know it ain’t personal!
Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill, Tony Dorsett, Emmitt Smith ... and now BOTH Marion Barber and Felix Jones
It's okay
I just saw a team play sloppy, poorly focused football that does not win games. Our O-line talent is probably the most overrated part of the team. Romo is good, but he needs a coach that is constantly in his ear to prevent him from being a turn over machine.
My concern is that Jerry seems to hang on to players and coaches too long. He is too afraid to pull the trigger when it’s clear you need to change. If this team when 9-7 but played very well and had key injuries and a very tough schedule I’d agree, but this team stayed realively healthy, and consistently caved in when it counted. It’s clear Wade lost the team in the last game. There’s no way he should be the coach right now.
I really can't argue with you on these points
I supported Wade until the end, but also thought he deserved to go.
And the O-line depends on a healthy Flozell and KK, so it certainly failed this year. Not sure if you can say it is so overrated… they broke all kinds of cowboys offensive numbers last year with this same line.
We have young talent at most positions, and “in decline” just doesn’t ring true.
Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill, Tony Dorsett, Emmitt Smith ... and now BOTH Marion Barber and Felix Jones
In decline...
Because the same coaches are there, so you will have the same inconsistent play. Flozell seems to play harder when he has a contract to play, and a false start is a big deal (league leader). With a different coach, certainly it could improve dramatically, i just hope Romo doesn’t get killed in the process.
And T-new needs to be replaced (not cut just, need a new #1 corner) because he apparently can’t stay healthy. It’s why the eagles sign Asante Samuel, when Lito Shepard couldn’t stay healthy a couple years in a row.
good point and probably right
it would be completely right or wrong… they both have their faults, but who can argue with consistent longevity in the NFL? People wrote off mcnabb two or three years ago

Really, I’m relieved I don’t have to conduct press conferences or stand outside during the winter any more. Back to the ol’ warm press box. I look forward to working for someone else once I get my stuff out of his office. And NO he cannot keep the picture of my daughter, no matter how many times he asks.”

The Ravens and the Steelers have both been “kissed on the dick by a good fairie” to get here. The Ravens several times in Tennessee and Big Ben on that half blind TD throw to Holmes. That was the same play Romo made last year vs. the Giants, only Holmes caught his and Crayton dropped his.
In the second half, that Fairie is gonna stop giving some love to one of these teams. And it’s gonna hurt.

It goes with the old saying “if you play great defense you have a chance against anybody”

Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill, Tony Dorsett, Emmitt Smith ... and now BOTH Marion Barber and Felix Jones
agreed
look at what you hit and that doesn’t happen.

he lead with his shoulder
just watched it three times on DVR
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
As did I
And I am still not buying that, as Luke said wayyy to much helmet on that hit.

by aussie_cowboy on Jan 18, 2009 9:10 PM CST up reply actions
I'm sorry that
Was way to big of a hit to be an incidental helmet to helmet shot.
by joey7289 on Jan 18, 2009 9:11 PM CST up reply actions
Is leading with the shoulder really relevant if the main contact is helmet to helmet?
It wouldn’t matter on a QB

qbs play by a different set of rules

he lowered his shoulder
and that put his head more out in front.
It’s 15, obviously.
by Last of the Romohicans on Jan 18, 2009 9:11 PM CST up reply actions
or perhaps
not so obviously since it wasn’t called.
by Last of the Romohicans on Jan 18, 2009 9:12 PM CST up reply actions
of course it wouldnt matter on a QB
if he sneezed on Flacco, he would have been hit with a penalty.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
dude
sneezing on someone is just poor conduct.
I think that should be an ejectable offense

I find it crass that they're playing music on the PA
as if nothing has happened on the field.
I was just thinking that same thing

Whatever happened to...
Everybody take a knee and everybody applause the guy leaving? When did music become part of that?
Those two things still happened
music was just played throughout which seems a bit classless

it's almost easy to under-rate the safeties
… until you watch a game like this
cowboys D needs to find themselves one
Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill, Tony Dorsett, Emmitt Smith ... and now BOTH Marion Barber and Felix Jones
you know what's odd
with everyone saying Jerry is a horrible GM – he is still the first who noticed the increasing importance of the safety and went high in the draft, when people said you don’t take safeties in the top 10.
You know, he may actually know what he’s doing.
(also – Parcells reportedly wasn’t happy with the pick of Ware when it happened – though neither was I.)

if they lose to the cardinals, I think they lose 2 of their 5 trophies, so then we’d just have to beat the niners to 6
