Quincyyyyy's Offseason plan

Free Agency:

Resign: Austin, Bowen, Bollinger, Killa, Polk

Sign: Albert Haynesworth.  He could be a monster DE in a 3-4.  I am sick of our DE's underperforming on a consistent basis.  That has been one of the major problems of our defense and we could solve that by signing Haynesworth and letting Canty go to a team who will probably pay more for his services than we are willing to do.  I would also like to see Bowen compete with Spears for his starting job.

Draft:

2nd: SS Michael Hamlin

3rd: OT Gerald Cadogan

4th(a): ILB Scott McKillop

4th(b): Best center available

5th: NT Sammie Lee Hill

That would be nice ....

2 Hamlin’s in the secondary …..

I want Taylor Mays in our secondary. Make it happen Jerry Jones.

They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.

HOLY HELL I WOULD LOVE THAT!!!

I watched that game and he was a BEAST!!! This coincides with an earlier statement of mine wondering how much Ken Norton likes his job at USC…just a thought.
And simply because I’m reminded of it and I haven’t ranted yet today, did anybody else want to drop kick their plasma when Keyshawn came on talking about USC. This supposedly objective “analyst” (and I use that term loosely) went on and on and on about what “We” are doing to make USC a better program. This dbag cannot and will not be objective at all. He acted like Penn State was the enemy and I realize he went to USC and all, but listen to Troy comment on games. you would swear he played and won SB’s with the Redskins. Most people hate him and I feel like sometimes he’s overly critical as to not be considered a homer, but Keyshawn Johnson is BY FAR the worst excuse for a respectable football analyst this side of Emmitt Smith (love ya 22!!! haha)

6’3" 235 4.28 40.. Wow. Even with our 1st we wouldn’t have a shot..

You better watch Mays some more.

He measures great but, he’s wreckless on the field. He’s not that great.

a safety

On arguably the best D USC has had since Pete C got there with those measurables is going to go high on school recognition and athletic ability alone.

If Troy Williams went top 10, Mays will go early.. Ed Reed, Landry, S. Taylor have created extra value for Mays.

really seems low

combine will be telling he drops a low 40 time he will shot up like Landry..

except

Mays is taller, heavier, faster, and on one of the best D’s in the country..

I agree USC visibility helps, but the last couple of good safeties have come from big time schools.

Troy P, Ed Reed, D. Landry, S.Taylor, B. Sanders

If he comes out, the combine could make him a lot of money

I assure you he will not run a 4.28 40 at the combine...

btw…Josh Barrett is 6’3" 234 lbs and ran a 4.37 40..and played at a Big 10 school…and is the best comparison there is out there….He’s better than Barrett of course, but he is no Sean Taylor…..not yet anyways..

Oh I am sure..

It was actually Pac-10, when I say big time, I am talking about a team that has won a national championship in the last 10 yrs. Bob Sanders played at Iowa, a similar school to Barrett, so I will give you that.

All I am saying is if Taylor Mays runs a sub 4.40 he will be gone by 10.

La Ron Landry and Donte Whitner

were both projected to fall to the Cowboys in their respective drafts and then shot up into the top ten. I don’t think it’s out of the question.

Forget about haynesworth

It’s not happening….

He will be resigned by the titans, end of story!!!

by Deke on Jan 2, 2009 11:22 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

And what indications are those
The Titans now have an exclusive negotiating window of a little more than two months. Haynesworth could be in line to become the highest-paid defensive player in the league.

“Clearly we’ve expressed a great deal of interest, as he has, in working things out,” Fisher said. “We’ll move forward, but the most important thing right now is the playoffs and getting him ready. Getting him back on the practice field, getting him ready to play at the level he was before he got hurt.”

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3799687&campaign=rss&source=NFLHeadlines

Preliminary talks about a new contract have already begun between Haynesworth and the Titans, so that doesn’t sound like a guy that wants to get out of town to me….. and really, who woudn’t want to play for Jeff Fisher, thee best coach in the NFL as far as I’m concerned after Belicheck….

the cap means shat in today’s NFL

by quincyyyyy on Jan 2, 2009 1:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Dream big my man

If you think the cap doesn’t mean anything then why not get TJ Housh and Brett Farve as a backup?

T-New, shutting down WR's for Dallas since 2003

by APerfectStar on Jan 3, 2009 4:58 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Because they don't want to be backups

obviously the cap has some ramifications. I was using a hyperbole. But you could definitely fit Haynesworth on our team. All you would have to do is trim a little fat like cutting Roy Williams and maybe restructuring or cutting Anthony Henry. It wouldn’t be nearly as hard as you are making it out to be.

by quincyyyyy on Jan 3, 2009 9:31 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with quincyyyy...........

We clean house, Roy, Henry, Ellis, Tank, Carp, Zack, Davis, Watkins, Kosier, Canty, Hurd, Proctor, Berger, and McQuistan……….over 20 million in cap space right there….can extend Ware and still have plenty to get any free agent out there….

Haynesworth-NT
Peppers-DE
Atogwe-FS
Brown-FS
Landry-S
Dawkins-S
Sharper-S
Suggs-OLB
Dansby-ILB
Scott-ILB
Lewis-ILB
Peterson-ILB
Vlima-ILB
Gross-OT
Brown-OT
Evens-OG
Goff-OG
Boller-QB
Carr-QB
Losman-QB

Anyone of them can be had IF we wanted to go that route….and IF they would even want to come here…

OK Quincy

I’m not going to argue with you, that’s your opinion.

My opinion is there is no way we’re going to sign another huge name FA at any position, especially a guy who will command as much as Haynesworth. I agree he’s a force at NT, but too much $$$ with Ware’s contract already looking like a monster.

Haynesworth not on the radar. One, too much money-two, Tennessee isn’t let him out of Tennessee. Cap space shouldn’t be a problem for them.

Haynesworth would be nice, but not a necessity.

Personally, I’m tired of Dallas signing big name free agents. I’d rather just take what we get in the draft, and sign some lower level FA’s that can contribute.

Bowen cannot compete with Spears for the starting job. Were we to lose Canty, then Bowen can compete with Hatcher for that side—unless, of course, we get a NT and Rat slides outside on 1st and 2nd downs.

Bollinger = Grammatica.

George Teague did it all.

by Aaron Novinger on Jan 3, 2009 10:30 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Why are you tired of signing good players?

If you can spend the money then why not? You can get good players through free agency and the draft.

by houseofprime on Jan 3, 2009 1:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think this teams needs any more star players to compete.

They need to use what they already have. Personnelwise, the Cowboys are really good. Yes, there are some holes, like at ILB and G and maybe D-Line.
But wouldn’t you rather see the team address such needs in the draft? For them to remain a playoff contender each year, they have to get life out of their draft classes to further push the veterans.
Free agency is for fixing a need. The only real need I see them fixing with FA is a mid-level safety.

George Teague did it all.

Can you list the NT'S

I want to do some research.

1. Terrance Cody, Alabama
2. B.J. Raji, Boston College
3. Terrance Taylor, Michigan
4. Boo Robinson, Wake Forest

Your thoughts on this list? From Nov 15

Your thoughts on taking a look at Gabe Watson? Lock him in a room for a week with clips of Wilfork, Hampton, and Jamal Williams?

They have had some really good players from that Michigan team who underachieved, just wondering if he could do the same.

Oh well, we need a high motor run stuffer, no lazy players.

by Wmillion on Jan 4, 2009 4:05 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

weve got to find our own guys

you cant keep, grabbing guys who are in their late 20’s and early thirties. We are a fairly young team, and we dont need to keep getting older.

And who says Haynseworth is a for sure fit in our scheme? How much has he had to two-gap? Maybe he’s not the type of guy who wants to see his numbers suffer.

We already have enough stars, we just need a guy who is 320, who can stop the run for two downs, and there is no reason to break the bank for that. Look at how much money we have tied up in just re-signing our own guys recently. THERE WILL BE GUYS IN THE DRAFT.

And the 2-gappers always fall. They never go that high, with the exception of Haloti Ngata, but he is special.

Cris Carter....you're dead to me.

by Carl Shelton (GloryDayz88) on Jan 3, 2009 8:03 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

uhhh

We dont play a two gap. We havent since Parcells left. The Phillips 3-4 plays a one gap system on the DL.

by Impatient on Jan 3, 2009 8:06 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

There is still a lot of 2 gapping

Parcells had his NT’s doing it damn near every play. Wade does it far less, but you still have to be able to do it to play NT in Wade’s system.

The big difference is that the Ends dont have to 2-gap near as much in Wade’s system. Bill wanted everybody to stack and shed. Wade leans a little more toward penetration.

Besides, whether you’re assignment is to control two gaps or not, if the opponent decides to double team you, you are pretty much 2-gapping whether you want to or not.

Cris Carter....you're dead to me.

couldn't agree more..

There are some guys who fit in nicely here.. They now they come to Dallas and have a good season they will get paid or at least be highly visible. Hamlin and Columbo’s agent have any good players who are FA’s?

"Protect the Romo, Save the Cowboys!!"

by Wmillion on Jan 4, 2009 10:45 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'd rather sign a guy like Otagwe.

The secondary is our only weakness on defense. Continue to groom new players on the line.
Signing Haynesworth would just be ridiculous. Would this even be the Cowboys anymore, or just an all-star FA team?

George Teague did it all.
