Damn it ! Shanahan to be hired as new Kansas City HC.
Well,
Reports are now coming out that Herm Edwards has been fired as HC of the Chiefs. Chris Mortenson reports that talks are in proccess with Shanahan to become new HC. It's not a done deal, but everyone knows how Mort likes to run with stories that are done deals. He also mentions if Shanahan doesn't sign on, that Chan Gailey may be an option to take over the HC spot.
I for one, was a big advocate to bring Shanhan in as either OC or HC, as I see him as a good mentoring coach for Romo, and runs a high powered offense that would be a good fit for our offensive personel.
Oh well...Wade gets by this hurdle for now.

Wow!!
Shanahan loves the AFC West-Shanahan and the revenge factor..
"Protect the Romo, Save the Cowboys!!"
The more and more I think about it
With all these firings and hirings of coaches, it looks like we will have Cowher available next year! How many jobs will be opening next year? I don’t see Wade turning this team around. I have lost all confidence in him. If he doesn’t that means our offense wasn’t taken care of either, meaning no way does Jerry hand the keys over to Garrett. Super Bowl or atleast a playoff win will save those two jobs. So maybe, just maybe Jerry Jones is keeping this ace up his sleeve.
Cowher will never come here
He reportedly told the Jets that if he came their, he would bring in his own personnel guy. What’s the odds Jerry lets that happen here….
he did it with parcells
giving up control that is
Not complete control
He still got TO and DWare

Edwards
fired? Not a shock. Shanahan to replace him? A little shocked. But it makes sense.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
Yeah, Schefter's sources apparently said that Shanny wants to coach a team built to win now
I hope he’s right.
Because I want Shanahan for us.

That would be a great hire for KC
You know they’ll pick a QB with their top 5 pick.
Does Shanahan want to eventually coach every team in the AFC West?

He wasn't coming here anyway
He would have been hired by now. Cowher 2010. Remember, the Broncos still have to pay Shanahan if he continues to actively look for a HC position. If he isn’t hired or turns the job down he would certainly gain from the report he was considered
Pull the plug Jerry!
It’s not too late yet. Pull it.

no way
i mean yes senior bowl this weekend but other than that theres still a month left id say before youd want your coach in place
What the French?! Toast!
If Jerry was going to do anything
he would wait for SB week. Big news, bigger splash. The Cowboys would be in the SB, well the headlines at least.

how does anyone figure it's too late to fire Wade now and hire a new HC ??
I still see Shanahan coming here, maybe next week ?….announced during the SB festivities ? Jerry wants the big stage to announce the deal.
He wants to go to a team that can win NOW…..that’s a clue of things to come.
Bad idea
All other HC positions have been filled and, subsequently, their staffs have been filled. That makes slim pickings for a HC here to fill his staff
exactly

You don't think Shanahan has contacts?
If Wade would remain as DC, cool, if not, we have 3 others on the current staff that held that title of DC Campo, Gratham, Herring, and I highly doubt he’d have problems finding an O Line coach, or TE coach, as WR and RB coaches would probably be retained as well. OC possibilities, Al Saunders ? Chan Gaily ? Russ Grimm ? etc. etc…..too late my arsh…Jerry isn’t done dealing with this mess….believe that.

+1
I’ve said all along, that the chess pieces are not done moving. the fact that we still have a DC opening suggests Wade could take a step back, Shanahan could come in, and the announcement could be made Super Bowl Sunday just 3 hours before game time.

Now the report is he won't go
Peter King – who has good sources.

(Romo) still gets excited when he buys a new t-shirt at Target for crying out loud
by I_miss_Switzer on Jan 24, 2009 12:21 PM CST reply actions
The problem I have with the report
is the part where King says Shanahan won’t coach anywhere in 2009. I thought one of the conditions Shanahan had to fulfill in order to receive his $20 million (golden parachute) was that he has to make a good faith effort to secure another position. If that’s true, then announcing (through "sources") that he doesn’t plan to coach in 2009 would be stupid—he would be effectively forfeiting his money.
I couldn’t find any confirmation of this. Does anyone know for sure?
he does
have to make an effort to find a job. But even if he does find one and it pays less than he was making, Denver has to make up the difference. So he gets paid the same amount this year no matter what. It only depends on whether he wants to work this year or not.
First to six!!!
Shanahan
I don’t mind but Shanahan but why is he everyone’s favorite. I would prefer Gruden, but if not him I’d take Todd Bowles or Dave Campo(just kidding). Seriously, this OL is not built for a Shanahan offense. Can you imagine Leonard Davis pulling and leading a sweep? This would take 3 years to change the OL.

+1 He was just lucky he got there after Dungy
And for a qb guru he didnt leave the franchise in a very good place qb wise

by aussie_cowboy on Jan 24, 2009 6:55 PM CST up reply actions
Really?
Which way do you want it?
1) He took Dungy’s team to the SB, and Calahan took Gruden’s to the SB.
or 2) Gruden did what Dungy couldn’t do in Tampa and win a SB, and Calahan did what Gruden couldn’t do and go to the SB.
Gruden is a great coach. He had no talent on the Bucs and won a SB. Keyshaun and McCardell as your WR’s? Brad Johnson, who couldn’t even start in college?
""I really dig Hannibal. Hannibal had real guts. He rode elephants into Cartilage." -Tyson
No talent on that Bucs squad?
you realize that that defense set the record for points allowed in a season, and scored 9 defensive touchdowns. Sapp, Lynch, Brooks, Barber, McFarland.
And the offense wasnt bad either. And Brad Johnson passed for more than 3800 yards that season. Keyshawn was still a beast then, and so was McCardell. A great offensive line including hall of famer Randall McDaniel, Warrick Dunn, Mike Alstott.
Yeah, no talent at all.

If you are a winning team you have guys with great stats
You have to look at more than that one year-
Sapp? He’s awesome in his own mind. 6.5 sacks a year, 43 tackles a year.
Lynch. I guess. Fan favorite. not great stats.
Brooks and Barber are studs. McFarland is not good. I’d take 75% of the Cowboys DL before McFarland in his prime.
As far as the offensie talent, when was Keyshawn a beast or McCardell? Somebody has to catch the ball. McDaniel is great. Dunn has always been inconsistent. Mike Alstott was a FB, a good one but still a FB.
So, yeah no talent at all.

Also
the dude went 10-6 and 12-4 in his last 2 years with the Raiders. Or was that all Al Davis?

I have noticed the psychology of the Cowboy fan versus fans from other teams
who are in the market for a HC. Because other teams who are looking have already fired their HC, their fans have the luxury to be more choosy. The Cowboys fan’s situation is more dire. We are so unhappy with our HC that most of us would like anybody other than Wade. So although my personal preference is Shanahan, I bet we both agree that we’ll take either over Wade. All I can say is, what a sad situation to be in.

He's 70, can we suggest some young HCs please
I’m tired of old coaches
70 ?? He's as young or younger than Wade ,.
Holmgren is by far the best coach out there..
by CowboysRnumba1 on Jan 26, 2009 1:34 AM CST up reply actions
Why do want someone
the same age as Wade? With JJ speaking of continuity so much, these older coaches are only going to be around for 3-4 years
He may be the best coach out there, I agree with you. But I worry about his drive based on his age. Fire Phiillips born in 47 to hire Holmgren born in 48. Hold out for Cowher

Deposed Denver coach Mike Shanahan will "definitely’’ not coach the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009 — nor will he take a coaching job anywhere prior to the 2009 season, an NFL source close to Shanahan said late Friday night. The source said Shanahan was adamant that he was not coaching the Chiefs.
This confirms the NFL Network report by Adam Schefter from Friday evening that Shanahan would not take the Kansas City job, which was a response to an ESPN report that Shanahan and the Chiefs were in talks that could have had him replacing Herman Edwards, who was fired by new general manager Scott Pioli Friday.
The affirmation that Shanahan won’t coach anywhere at the start of the 2009 season won’t do anything to lessen the heat on coaches in tenuous positions to start next season, like Dallas coach Wade Phillips. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones admires both Shanahan and Mike Holmgren, the former Seattle coach who likely will return to football in 2010 as a coach or general manager or both.
"Protect the Romo, Save the Cowboys!!"
Funny (or sad) thing is
that IMO there are at least 5 head coaches available that are better then Wade. So why are we keeping him? Because he has done such a great job at creating “chemistry” with Jerry Jones? Seriously?
