What's Next?

With the economy in recession, maximizing marketability is at a premium these days.  That being the case, it makes sense to get what's yours when you're a member of the Dallas Cowboys these days.

I mean, we've got the new billion dollar stadium that King Jerry's about to unveil to kickoff the first home game of the 2009 season.

That, on the heels of last year's circus.

Mediots following the Cowboys in 2008 for more than just on-the-field stuff.

- The Pacman watch:  how long before he screws up.

- The tick-tock-tick-tock countdown 'til TO blows a gasket for not gettin' enough targets.

- The paparazzi MSMers spilling over attempted gossip of Romo and his hottie sweetheart with sports mediots waiting to reach and tie it in with his play between the endzones.

- The infamous "source" spreading mutinous remarks about a rift between the WRs and Garrett, WRs and Witten, WRs and Insert your enemy here depending on who you talk to

- The accounts that Romo throws passes to Witten more than anyone else

- The promise after The Philadelphia Debacle that Wade Phillips personally said that he would change as a coach (fat chance, pun intended)

- The "As The Star Turns" episodes as the NFL playoffs go on which ranged from Jason Garrett's interviews with the Rams and Lions; the rumors that Garrett couldn't relate to black players; the rumors that TO and Garrett couldn't co-exist in '09; the rumors that TO is going to be released

- The well-deserved firings of ST coach Bruce Read and DC Brian Stewart

- The hiring of new ST coach Joe DeCamillis

- The Calvin Watkins "five unnamed sources" story revealing numerously common accounts of undisciplined behavior that went hand-in-hand with the 2008 Dallas Cowboys

- The Troy Aikman challenge to Tony Romo

- The Dallas Cowboys Reality Show hosted by MIchael Irvin where an amateur attempts to try out for America's Team

- Not to be outdone, TO's VH1 Reality Show.

- The hiring of Dan Reeves as a consultant

Whew.  That's a lot of publicity.  And free marketing.

Oh, but wait... there's more.

This just in, TE-Martellus Bennett decides that he needs to get in on "the act," as well -- even if it means "acting a fool."

The talented rookie just released a you tube video, where he performs a lil hip-hop with a barrage of profanity, gay bashing, and disparaging remarks towards his own African-American race -- according to dallasnews.com's Calvin Watkins.

Check out the link.

There, I think that's all.  If I missed anything, please feel free to add on the the running sideshow scoreboard in the comments box below.

I guess these days, winning the Marketing Super Bowl is much more important than winning the NFL Super Bowl for today's Dallas Cowboys.

These are not my father's Cowboys.

That's for damn sure.

Enough already.

haha marty b is funny

i mean its better he’s making retarded youtube videos than shooting up clubs with pacman
but as of now the video has been taken down
The Cowboys will always get publicity, yea its pretty insane the amount of negative publicity we have right now, but in the media’s eyes and our own eyes the 08 season was a failure. There were alot of things that built up the start of the 08 season, these are just new things to get 09 started. All we can do is wait and see….

Martellus

Looks like it’s just a dude having fun. Granted some of the lyrics are a bit absurd, but I think it’s primarily for comedic value.

I saw the post on the DMN blog, and the comments were absurd. People are taking it WAAAAAAY too seriously. A bunch of middle aged old dudes offended that a young player is behaving how any millionaire at 21 would be. The fact that he’s at his computer making silly(and entertaining, if you ask me) videos simply means he’s NOT out doing other things that might actually get the dude in trouble.

And it’s not like a younger player has been caught behaving in a manor that doesn’t meet to the public’s boy scout standard. Vince Young, Matt Leinhart(sp?), Eli Manning, Big Ben, etc. all have some pretty colorful pictures floating around the darnfangled webbernets. God bless camera phones.

Honestly, if none of the other sideshows were going on, it wouldn't be that big of a deal...

However, now it’s just getting quite stale.

In the same manner that I HATE REALITY SHOWS, I’m now starting to hate hearing about non-football related Cowboys info.

Wait..

You hate Reality shows? See, I love reality TV.. I find it very entertaining, as matter fact, I find it hilarious..

My favorite reality show is Big Brother- great TV.

As well as the rest of the NFL fans.

Which I guess doesn’t really matter. But go to some of the other blogsites and you’ll see hardly a day goes by where someone isn’t taking a shot at the Cowboys. I even got one on the Cardinals’ site the other day. I have grown immune for the most part to the haters but now it seems we’re giving them unlimited amounts of ammunition. I guess this team is more interested in being soap opera stars than NFL players…sigh.

When haven't they been the most mocked team?

This is honestly nothing new. The media exposure is getting more intense, sure. But Dallas has always been the team people either love or absolutely hate. It’s really nothing new. Since Jerry took over, this is how the team has been run, with the exception of the Parcells era. It can get annoying at times, with people at work, school, whatever constantly bashing them because of their over exposure and lack of play off wins, but to me that’s just going to make the moment they finally win it all that much sweeter.

That said, the new Irvin reality show and TO’s upcoming show both sound REALLY stupid. I won’t watch, but they don’t bother me, either. I’m going to deal with haters wherever I’m at regardless.

Actually there was a time long long ago

when the Cowboys actually earned their respect on the field. Seriously, I vaguely remember it.

Darn it.

I just heard about Bennett’s rap video and somebody already removed it from youtube. Anybody have it saved to another link?

It's been removed?

That was quick. I’ve seen way worse on YouTube.

Imagine Martellus with a Cowboys helmet on freestyling over a 50 Cent track(I believe. I’ve heard it somewhere before. I’m not that well versed in hip hop…) about making money, with a wee bit of a potty mouth. Nothing unheard of, but it’s got the middle aged “zOMG!1 KIDS THESE DAYS!” demographic’s knickers in a twist.

And yes, I just said “knickers in a twist”, and it was awesome.

Yeah

It says “This video removed by user”. It’s gotta be somewhere else in this world wide web thingie.

I wouldn't argue against his immaturity

But it’s just a video of a dude rapping. Sure, he’s putting himself out there, and it’s the biggest franchise in football and he should have been more aware of that, but at the end of the end of the day, he’s really not done much to warrant a fine or any discipline. It was a fairly harmless video of a young dude having a good time.

I suppose I just don’t understand why our star athletes have to be squeaky clean boy scouts to the public. Most of us are well aware that isn’t the case with hardly any professional athlete, musician, actor, celebrity, whatever. Why should we ask they lie to us, or just keep it to themselves, so we aren’t offended by the fact that they may do things adults are allowed to do? Just seems silly to me.

None of this crap would bother me at all

If these chronic underachievers would win a playoff game. All the posts on this site argue pros and cons about a player based on the stats he put up this year and we still can’t win a damn playoff game.

When the triplets were bringing home bling by the barrelful, you think I gave a crap about Irvin’s off field behavior? Nope. But with this group, I already need rehab cause I’m ODing on all the garbage filling the airwaves.

super bowl

when will the cowboys hoist the lombardi trophy again, that is the question, it’s going on 12 years, will it be an eternity? i am almost getting use to not seeing the cowboys play in the big game, each year is one disapointment after another, when will it end?

If Bennett gets fined for this, he should fight like hell

I’m not sure it is any type of written violation to any rules, but this is silly. Big deal, he said a couple of words that most people use everyday. Was it in good taste? Probably not. Did it look good? No. But he’s not hurting anybody.

I think the only grounds that the team has is because he was wearing team apparrel. The

helmet was a authentic autographed throwback cowboys helmet and the non-pc language he used while wearing the team’s equipment could be seen as a conduct violation. I agree he should appeal if he is fined but the does not mean that they will not fine him. I personally like Marty’s style, he is a character and one of the players who will give you his opinion. In a way it shows how the media plays favorites or how they prefer the athletes to interact with them. Marty is more approachable and is an interesting interview to them because he is a character; on the other hand TO is seen as an ignition source to stir up controversy. Marty has said that he does not study his opponent and has a lack of focus and the msm does not raise hell about it, hell they do not even question WP about it. If TO said that, man it would be front page news on DMN and BSPN.

Ignore the Mainstream Media, EMBRACE THE HATE!!!!

+1 Glory...

This is beyond ridiculous. Stop the presses! This millionaire kid got bored and put up a YouTube video! Please…did he have a mirror with blow in his lap? NO. Did he beat up his wife? NO. Did he trash any teammate, coach, staff member, janitor, towel boy, cheerleader, fan, mascot, anything??? NO!!! This just goes to show that it was a painfully slow media day, and anything short of a player scratching his ass will attract media attention…
