It looks like the RHG has some sense after all!!
ESPN is reporting that he has declined to interview for the Lions HC job. Good decision I think, with Denver reportedly interested. He'd be better off staying put that going to the Lions. On the other hand, HC jobs only come up every so often, it may not be too wise to pass up interview chances. If nothing else, it helps to have been through it as many times as possible. The next thing he knows he might be not getting ANY offers to interview. It's happened before, Ron Rivera most recently. He got several interviews and now he isn't getting ANY!

Detroit would not be a Bad idea
he wouldn’t be under pressure to win right away.
He’d be given 3-4 years to prove himself.
Denver won’t wait on him to get his act together.
He’d be much better off going to a team with low expectations…IMO

+1000000.....Not accepting an interview was the dumbest possible move he could do...
I’ve already stated the reasons elsewhere, and for the most most -TrueBlue is right on point…..add to it he would have 2 1st round picks waiting for him as well…dumb ass..
Please….Does he really think he’s going to outlast Wade and stay here to become HC ??? ….LMAO….this guy is an azzclown..
If he goes to Denver, Cleveland, NYJ, or St Louis and fails…He’ll last one year, and never be considered again….Please….Someone hire this bum……Shanahan’s on his way..

2 first round picks, which will be selected by
The guy who was Matt Millen’s #2 for years.
They might not be worth squat.

exactly
Lions are a bad team, with bad management, and very little talent.
Plus they already retained some of the coaches, not a good look.
He is making 3 million here, with a promise to be the next HC, he is not desperate.

Here you go with the "promise" thing....have you read his contract ? Have you seen him coach ?
First off…the remaining managerial staff/ or retained coaches has nothing to do with a prediction of failure…Marinelli was not the problem here…They played hard for him, harder than our friggin Cowboys…….I’m sure you and several others have said that Parcells was the mastermind in putting together this young nucleus of great players we got in the previous 5 drafts, and the previous 8 drafts were ran by some ass clown of a GM named Jerry Jones….in between the Johnson dynasty draft years….OK…well….that same GM that everyone disses, and did not know squat about the draft just pulled off one of thee best drafts of all time here in Dallas….Mayhew is an intelligent guy, has assistance, and won’t screw up the #1 pick in the draft, they won’t be drafting a WR…so get off that media trip……….very little talent ???…i disagree..They were about 8 player upgrades, from being a playoff contender in that division…
.Offense—-
Kitna, Culpepper, Orlovski at QB- good / Calvin Johnson, McDonald, Furry, Standeford at WR- good / Kevin Smith, Rudi Johnson at RB – good / Felton-FB-good / Dan Cambell-TE-good / Backus, Cherilus- OT’s- very good / ok….That’s some very decent young, core talent….so they may look for a new franchise QB in draft (which i wouldn’t), because they are more than adequate to move forward with Kitna…..They need upgrades at the interior line positions…pick up Mike Goff-OG or Matt Birk-OC and/ or lower tier FA and draft Duke Robinson-OG in this years draft with their #18 pick, add a legit #2 FA WR in Houshyourmamma or Antonio Bryant / a talented TE in Owen Daniels, and they have an offense that could compete with any team in this league….
Defense—-
excellent DL depth at DT position, Redding, Darby, Moore, Fluellan, and Cody..a solid DE in Dewayne White, and a promising Cliff Avril… good LB"s in Sims, Lenon, Dizon, decent CB in Bodden, and young S in Bullocks and Smith….They need upgrades at the DL/DE position, CB, and depth or upgrade at LB / Safety…..Make a splash in FA at DE you got Peppers, Suggs, Canty, and Berry to select from / …DT- Haynesworth / LB’s in Dansby, Vilma, Crowder, Scott, Boley, or Burnett…/ .Safety upgrade in Atogwe,/ CB lock down in Asomugha, or lower tier upgrades with Robinson, Foxworth, McFadden, or Green……Sprinkle in some quality depth in the draft, off season cuts, and I’d have this team winning at least 8 games by next year……I doubt Garrett could…but a real coach could…There are no promises in the NFL…..and I’ll say it again…This is THEE BEST Coaching opportunity any new HC could ever dream for…There is no pressure to win, have better talent than some would think, and are young, coachable, eager to clear that 0-16 taste out of their mouths…The draft, quality FA signings, and some off season pick ups puts this team right in the mix in the mediocre NFC North…

did you just say Detroit has good Qb's?
That roster is the worst in football and it isn’t even close.

Wmillion....did you even read my comment ?????
First off….You mention my opinion on QB’s…Your implying Kitna sucks ??? Your saying he couldn’t fair well on a different team ..Did he not almost beat us last season with this same lousy roster ?….then you dismiss the rest of the roster ?…..Number one, Kitna nor Culpepper suck….They aren’t top line, but they are middle of the pack, and I can name 10 starters they are better than, and I’d love to have here as our #2………And if you actually knew talented players from teams you don’t follow, and their rankings among peers, personel directors and scouts.., their draft status and grades, age, and ability..as I do, and I study rosters on a regular basis…I’d beg to differ with you that their roster sucks …..they very well may be the worst overall roster…but they aren’t too far from being a middle of the bunch roster either………You’d realize every player i listed is actually considered good, very good, or excellent, according to scouts and personel men around the league……..Overall their roster is weak..yes…I realize that…not questioning their roster needs upgrades…..I pointed it out actually…..which is why i suggested some moves they can make to be on their way up….Detroits roster is much better than what Miami put on the field last season….and they ended up where ??…1-15 to 11-5….ok…..nuff said…Detroit would have to hit the FA market and land some front tier talent, Asomugha, Peppers, and Dansby would solidify that defense to top 15 status….Houhmanzada, Jordan Gross, or Matt Cassels would bring the offense into top 15 status…..and with a great draft (featuring three top 33 picks)…., they can easily achieve an 8-8 record or better.. in the mediocre NFC north….
As far as your coaching remark …where’d that come from ?..They are looking for a coach……..Marinelli was a scape goat for Millens inability to put together a proper roster..There is talent there…just not enough…..Marinelli had poor coordinators….hence the failure…sound familiar ?? Marinelli was highly regarded among his players, and former players of his in Tampa….and I assure you he’ll be coaching for another team next season…..Seattle is my guess..I never said he should stay….He needs to accept the record….doesn’t make him a bad coach…and yes….our coaches should be fired for their performance this year..
I’m not gonna go back and forth…if you didn’t understand my last post…i won’t be able to help you..enjoy….I suggest you read Deke’s post, pointing out exactly what i posted on….he’s right on the money, and gets it..

If I were Garrett or anyone else, I'd take the Lions job in a second
You have nowhere to go but up and they do have talent and some building blocks in place. They just need a franchsise Qb and offensive line to build around, something they never seem to find. Detroit is a team that could be 500 easy next year if they do a good job in free agency and the draft.. Garrett would of been seen as a hero in Detroit and would have a lifetime job in Detroit if he turned that franchise around…

Your Logic makes sense
I think Jason G. knows more about the situation then we do and with that information he was not interested.
My guess is looking at the managment and talent he wasn’t interested. it is only a guess, but it makes sense.
NO Qb, No O-line, NO D-line, terrible secondary you are years off from being a good team. You may play out of your a$$ one year, but back to the norm after that.
I said earlier on the blog that it would be funny if hit a homerun with our 1st round pick.

I think it is ignorant to say Detroit has no talent.
They have a blue chip receiver in Calvin Johnson, a very promising RB in Kevin Smith, and a potential Pro Bowl corner in Leigh Bodden. Not to mention they have a very solid LB core. They have the potential to be big time FA players, and if they would trade back and pick up some additional picks, they would be able to make a big leap this year.

This is my first post
since the meltdown in Philly. In my 20 years as a cowboys fan I have never been so disgusted with a team as I am right now. The fact that the big reaction to this is to fire the special teams coach is RIDICULOUS! This teams needs a major change, not a roster overhaul or even a coaching overhaul but a major change here or there is needed.
Redball sucks and I am with boyzrback 100%, praying that some idiot team makes him their HC. The guy had a terrible year and that was no “sophomore slump”, that was him getting exposed after Sporano took his skills to south beach.
Jerry made some bad moves last time he needed a coach but the stars have aligned and Shanahan is out there, still getting paid $20 million due to his Denver contract. We need that guy running our offense, getting in Romo and TO’s face and telling them to shut the hell up and play ball. Maybe he and Wade can be co-coaches, whatever, just make it happen because my faith in Jerry and this organization is at an all time low and some bullsh*t about “we’ll change our ways” is not going to help this team pull out of the toxic sludge it is mired in.

Yep, RedBall Sucks
I had my doubts about the final outcome early in the game. It’s 3rd and 1, you’re in field goal range, with an effective running game and you line up in the shotgun? You can’t even do a play-action fake to loosen the coverage or help slow the rush! You set yourself up to fail! Of course the play results in a sack and it puts you out of field goal range.
It’s the definition of bad play calling, really bad play calling.
As Romo we go

That drive was the dagger in my heart....How bout the other 3rd and 1....a few of many 3 and outs.
after a Choice 6 yard run..making it 3rd and 1
a quick hitch to TO, with a CB right up on him at the line…..Romo throws it down at TO’s feet,………4th down…PUNT !!! ….NICE Garrett….brilliant…

Lions
Tough gig, that roster has huge holes.. Plus he might not trust the new GM, a Matt Millen assistant. i think is may be similar situation as Sean Payton and the raiders.
