Playoff games open thread
The Falcons visit the Cardinals and the Colts visit the Chargers. Since I live in Atlanta, I guess I'll adopt the Falcons as my playoff team.
This is an open thread for both playoff games.

Seems weird not to be anticipating a Cowboys playoff game this year
Cowboys fan since 1978.. I was 3 years old
My prediction: LT will be useless today
San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson has a detached tendon that connects one of his adductor (groin) muscles to his pubic bone, according to team sources.

Cowboys fan since 1978.. I was 3 years old
My predictions for the wildcard games
Atlanta
Indy
Eagles
Ravens.
NFL Pet peeve, why is a 12-4 team playing on the road against an 8-8 team, change this stupid rule NFL
to what?
i think taking the top 6 teams in a conference would kind of ruin the importance of division games
What the French?! Toast!
oh i guess that wouldnt hurt
but thats the whole reason to win against divison teams so you get homefield.
What the French?! Toast!
yeah, I'd agree with that
who gets in is unchanged, but seed and home field is determined by overall rank regardless of division…
I'm going for an Atlanta/Miami SB
That would be incredible. Chad Pennington and Tony Sparano vs Michael Turner and Matt Ryan…..and don’t forget Ricky Williams…
atl vs car and miami vs colts
defn them in the champ games who wins is anyones guess but id like to see peyton get another so there is no superbowl ring dispute when hes brought up as the greatest qb ever.
superbowl is a team accomplishment but yet people still want to use it as a grading factor for qbs
What the French?! Toast!
If only our receivers had them hands.....
He makes it look so easy!
hes not as good
or as fast
but he’s the closest we got to making a catch like that
but no-one can top fitz at his own game
Superbowl or Bust?
As much as I
love Romo … I wish he would do what Ryan just did …. throw it away!!
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
Everytime he does...
He gets flagged for grounding.
by Brandon Worley on Jan 3, 2009 3:56 PM CST up reply actions
yea
the coaches have tried telling him to throw it away at times
but it ends up as an intentional grounding
and bombing to miles austin the play after doesnt work every time
it screwed us in the giants playoff game but i still trust romo to make a play or check it down
and maybe throw it away out of bounds instead of just away
Superbowl or Bust?
yeah, but still
they lost 4 of their last 6, giving up an average of 42 points in those 4 losses, and got totally rolled over by the Iggles, Vikes and Pats. Big difference today.
does atl
have any speedy dudes
like a darren sproles or felix jones
even a tim hightower?
they need to start some screens on the cards d-line
Superbowl or Bust?
i hope garrett is watching how
the falcons are adjusting and using slants, screens, short passes
Superbowl or Bust?
seattle
has no pass rush really
and holland was in
give romo time he’ll do anything
Superbowl or Bust?
yeah but it was the scheme
that got the matchup. Curtis motioned out wide, Trufant followed him and left the LB on TO. Dumb mistake by the Hawks, but still a good play design to force them to make that adjustment and create the mismatch.
Who's Been Saying That?
I have not heard one time that he was a bust this season.
~Texas Massacre 08~
Uh...
This was his third year. So who ever has called Austin a bust before his third year is a fool.
~Texas Massacre 08~
notice
the atl o-line giving ryan time on that drive
the previous drives ryan was rushed and wasnt doing well
Superbowl or Bust?
And...
They are running the ball effectively as well. So that also helps out Ryan.
~Texas Massacre 08~
That Definitely Helps Out With Young QBs.
Look at how Big Ben has turned out with a few years having a running game helping you mature.
~Texas Massacre 08~
warner will be a Free agent next year, best case back up scenario.
Don't believe everything you think.
Your causes are cute!!!
thats the one
i was looking for awesome
by icouldusesomebaseball on Jan 3, 2009 5:02 PM CST up reply actions
Ryan just looks like a real quarterback. You got Romo holding the ball down by his hip with one hand and throwing almost sidearm.
playmaker!!!
who needs a playmaker at QB, just need a smart qb that plays with poise and distributes the ball to the right receiver
We need...
more quickness on our O-line. Romo is amazing at avoiding the pass rush and makes our O-line look so much better than they are.
That is...
true… I like Romo a lot. It just seems like he has had a lot of luck the past few seasons. So many fumbles that should of been lost and dropped picks. I’m all for playmakers but I don’t want 3 turnovers every game either.
ryan is rookie of the year hands down
and he has a run game, an OL that actually blocks people
and there u go, good qb
give romo time and he tears defenses up
remember the browns game
even with proctor it just looked too easy
Superbowl or Bust?
If not for there pathetic division they wouldn't be a playoff team.
I think they had 3 wins outside their division.
hahahahaha

By Rodgers Cromartie…..you will never EVER see fromTerence Newman…..see how DRC turned for the ball as soon as White did? Such a simple concept that that MF Newman cannot undesrand. He can keep up with any receiver in the league….but that’s it…..

but today they’ve been good

did you hear what Madden just said?
Manning always gets a clean pocket…and I wonder why he is MVP.
In Romo we Trust
Yeah its got nothing to do with his crazy good accuracy, decision making and poise.
Put anybody in that pocket and they are MVP

easy to have those things
when you’re not facing pressure…funny thing is when he is prsssured, I don’t see those things from him.
In Romo we Trust
That was crazy but
Manning does that as well as anyone. I’ve always wished we could do more of that but our players just aren’t as disciplined as the Colts are. Hell, if the Cowboys offense saw the other team’s D start substituting our offense would probably call a timeout to give them more time.
if you are playing manning
you have to know he might try that and be aware of it every play. Cromartie was the one caught off guard, but that’s a coaching error.
(Unless the Colts did sub too, in which case they got a free TD.)
yeah, that's one of those things
we’ll find out about later. if they did and the Bolts end up losing, man that would suck.
talk about coffin corner
can the punter be the MVP? if the bolts pull this out, they have him to thank.
1st to get it, 1st to win
what a dirty way to decide a season

Well...
Fasano didn’t show much the time he was here. He’s doing well now ‘cause he doesn’t have Witten in front of him. I still like Bennett’s upside. As for Ayodele, I didn’t like the fact that he was “thrown in” in that trade especially now that we’re going to be looking for an ILB for next season. Either way though, those 2 missing players are not the reason we missed the playoffs.
Colts job
Talk about a team who will not be same without is HC.
"Protect the Romo, Save the Cowboys!!"
they had a chance.
lost the same team twice, this time without there HOF rb and Best OLB

you win as a team you lose as a team
it wasnt peytons fault its not like he threw a pick six or anything… hes still going to retire as the greatest qb ever
What the French?! Toast!
Well...
He’s only won during the post-season that same year he won the SB. Other than that, Peyton does not win playoff games.
~Texas Massacre 08~
Did you see that one stat??
Where they showed that Peyton had thrown Marvin Harrison around 112 TD’s in the regular season and only 2 in the postseason?? He’s not a great post-season QB.
I'm just hoping for a progression with Romo now
Hopefully, he can just start playing as well, or close to as well, at the end of a season as he does at the beginning.
and fast
I am ok with them getting in, but getting a home game. BS

Random thoughts
I don’t think Norval is a great HC, but I love the guy and always root for him.
I always like it when OT ends with a TD, not a FG.
Did anyone else get tired of the sideline shots of LDT? He wasn’t exactly missed.
LT is our MB3 now
and Sproles is our Choice (cept for the returns)
and of course, they’re actually winning a playoff game…
yeah, I just mean in terms of this point in the season
big time back on the bench while the backup excels
Indeed.
SD better not make the same mistake twice. Last year with Michael Turner, and now with Sproles.
~Texas Massacre 08~
it is going to be tough for SD to sign sproles...
he says he wants to start…i am not sure he likes returning kicks or punts all the time…
Norv shows that you don't have to be a hard ass to get your team to play hard and win big games
My question then is what is he doing different than Wade?? It just seems like it’s what Raf said. It’s the players on our team. They’re just frigging stupid, undisciplined, and petulant.
he made some subtle changes....that helped Rivers...
like the reverse pivot for the quick slant…these are stuff that an QB coach/OC should be doing during the game….i
Someone asked that in the Philthy game
They asked “Is Wade Wilson even talking to Romo??” I love the guy, wear his jersey during the games, but he’s in major need of his own full time drill sgt. Someone to get in his a** when he screws up, or does something stupid, or both.
i like the name...that game was indeed Philty...
It’s gonna stink for a long time
When Parcells was here we had a few losses
where it was like “one of the worst losses in Cowboys history” type losses. Or losses that were so bad for whatever reason that you felt really sick for a long time because of them (loss to the Rams to end the season was one of them. the loss to Detroit to end another season was another). To be fair now, Wade’s got several of those type losses on his resume now too. That Philthy game will live on in Cowboys lore forever.
Wade Wilson
Romo is showing zero progress. WW has to go and someone has to come in and make Romo what he should be.

How come no Sproles in the post game interview??
Rivers is an arrogant SOB
lol
Gates is even worse…kramer asked him how do you explain 328 all purpose yards for sproles..he says because he is all purposei
I can't stand the guy.
Ever since that game against Denver a couple of years ago I’ve had a real dislike for Rivers. No doubt he’s talented but he’s not someone I root for
He's a major league piece of crap
Rivers that is. Sproles will make bank this offseason.
Aikman and Bradshaw?
Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

my same reaction...
plus..he is scouting the teams!!!!
LOL
He certainly couldn’t have got the job by submitting a resume, could he??
That being said, he was always a good analyst. Pretty articulate for an ex-NFL player. He should have stuck with that.
Anyone see Peyton right now in the post game? He’s absolutely devastated over this. THAT is why he can lead the Colts. Romo needs to watch this and learn that losing an NFL play-in or play-off game should HURT.
True
I’m a big Romo backer but he’s gotta give up that whole Zen-if-this-is-the-worst-thing-that-ever-happens-to-me-then-I’ve-lived-a-pretty-good-life-line-of-crap and realize that we’d rather see him crying after the game than acting like everything’s okay. Of course, then the Romo haters would trash him for being a big baby for caring that much about a loss. LOL
Indy loses
Well, there goes my Super Bowl pick….AGAIN!
Come and whisper in my ear, give us dirty laundry - ESPN
Manning and his quick snaps...
Do you think the O-Line gets caught when he does that…the sack that happened before the FG by SD….the O-line never picked up the blitz guy….when it works it is great…but this time it came back to bite them..
Got to fess up.
Colts were my Super Bowl pick as well. I just thought this would be their year to come out of nowhere even though I’m sure they were already plenty of mainstream pundits’ trendy pick to “come out of nowhere.”
Now I guess the thing I’d most like to see in the remainder of the playoffs is yet another visiting team take a dump on the Steelers homefield. Also, I’d be fine with a Dolphins/Panthers or Dolphins/Vikings Super Bowl.
I don’t know how I’d feel about the Chargers going all the way because it would basically mean the NFL playoffs has turned into the MLB playoffs where any mediocre team can get hot at the right time and win it all.
Thank you Chargers!
Thank you for ending the hype of a Manning vs Manning SB as early as possible. That would be truly nauseating to listen to for the next few weeks.
Plus, I have to root for Norv, and Sproles is a player I want to tune in to see. Glad he gets at least one more game to showcase his skills.
