Go Phins, Go Vikes

No strong love of either team, but it would be fun to watch Philadelphia go down in flames again.

oops

If you can't sell out a playoff game, should you lose the right to have a home game?

ok with go vikes

sale reason, wipe out the eagles smile (I’m sure Philly fans must think it’s their sports year) but it is unpleasant to watch Miami ’s success due to former cowboys coaches, so go Ravens

Hey Deke
The Patriots have decided to ensure that quarterback Matt Cassel won’t be an unrestricted free agent, as scheduled in March.

Sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that the Patriots will use a franchise tag on Cassel that will give the team two options: Trade him if all goes well with Tom Brady’s rehabilitation from a knee injury or keep him because all is not well with Brady.

I think they'll wait to see if Brady is healthy for the season first

before they think of trading him. There have been mixed reports on his health, some say he’s ahead of schedule, some say he needs another surgery, who knows with the Patriots….

Patriots have alot of money under the cap, but to carry almost 30 million for two QB’s is exsessive…

that is part of it

I think we mismanaged Fasano.

I never thought much of Polite.

I don’t think ZT was an upgrade of Ayodele. They were both JAGish two down LBs with no knack for the big play.

by I_miss_Switzer on Jan 4, 2009 1:42 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Fasano was not going to beat out Witten.

He had an important role and I think we did teach him well. We just decided to go in another direction. As far as coaching goes, are’nt the guys teaching him now the same guys teaching him when he was here.

by squidlo97 on Jan 4, 2009 2:09 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Beating out Witten - neither did Bennett

Is Bennett about to? Spending a second round on a backup TE when we had a decent backup TE was a strange move. The team was fine at TE and moving Fasano created a need.

I think the mismanagement was in terms of not using him enough, and deciding he was scrap.

by I_miss_Switzer on Jan 4, 2009 2:34 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'd take Bennett over Fasano

So would I

but we needed upgrades and depth at S and OL. Spending a second rounder on a second TE was a luxury we could ill afford, and it filled a need that was created artificially by gifting Fasano to the Dolphins. It looks especially costly seeing as how we have given up first and third rounders this year to fill another position of non-need.

In Romo we Trust

I wonder why they didn’t make the playoffs. Ask his teammates, they seem to be letting everyone know how they felt about Favre——he was distant, not part of the team

They

weren’t to fond on Pennington too, regardless of what you say the coach wanted.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:18 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

you dont know what you're talking about

Pennington was the leader in the locker room and on the field with the Jets, Players respected him. It was ownership that wanted Favre, they wanted some press to take away from the Giants and a QB to throw it down the field more, that’s not Penningtons game, as I said….

If Pennington was with the Jets this year, they would of made the playoffs, because they had a one of the best running games in the league setting up playaction, his bread and butter….

by Deke on Jan 4, 2009 2:28 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I know clearly

What i’m talking about, your the person who changes his opinion every week. Don’t make me laugh, the Jets would be just as bad as they were last year.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:29 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And

A week a go you told me it was eric mangini who wanted farve.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:30 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Jets spent 140 million on players in bonuses and contracts

The organizaton wanted to make a splash in New York, because of all the press the giants were getting. What better way than to get favre, they wanted to stretch the field more on offense, you cant do that with Pennington. They didn;t cut him because he sucks or any other reason. They gave him his release so he would have a chance of signing with someone else, a class act by the organization.. They went out of their way to thank Pennington publicly for his service with the jets…

by Deke on Jan 4, 2009 2:41 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I said that a week ago

But everyone believed he would have gotten us in the playoffs. 4 Picks.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:15 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I never said he was the answer

I said he was the best QB for what Miami was running- try understanding what I say and don’t jump to the ridiculous conclusions

And if dallas ran the ball as they should of instead of throwing the ball down the field all the time, which this team is not, then a two tightend power running team and a QB in pennington who doesn’t make the poor decisons that romo makes, and doesn’t force the ball into double coverage all the time that Romo does, then he would of lead the cowboys to the playoffs….but we have a whinner T.O who is never happy and Garrett was trying to satisfy him instead of spreading the ball around.

by Deke on Jan 4, 2009 2:23 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No you didn't

I remember clearly what you said and you said if Pennington was on the Cowboys we would be in the playoffs. This is exectly what you said

If we had Pennington this year, we probably would of been in the playoffs

certainly makes better decisions than Romo

by Deke on Dec 28, 2008 7:06 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions 0 recs

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:27 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

because the gameplan would of been different, clue in

We have a power running offensive line, we wouldn’t be trying to throw it down the field all the time.

Our best drive in the philly game was a ball control, running the ball, throwing it to the tightends and backs out of the backfield, inside out, that’s our offense. We certainly wouldn’t have Pennington throwing forty yards down the field all the time as Romo wants to do. Different GAME PLANS FOR DIFFERENT QB’S… DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT!!!

The problem is that Garrett is too busy having Romo trying to make big plays down the field instead of checking down, and not being patient with the football

And that’s exactly what I was saying

by Deke on Jan 4, 2009 2:35 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That is what I said

Last week is that the Dolphin’s system that fits Pennington. You told me when you protect the ball you win games. I then told you that the Dolphins played an easier schedule and you laughed at that. Look at what happens when they play a good team. Pennington looks even worse then Romo has been.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:38 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

also said about Pennington.

yeah, we wouldn’t be losing 7 games this year and in the playoffs

by Deke on Dec 28, 2008 7:34 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions 0 rec

My only point this entire time is that Pennington is no better then Romo, but according if we had Pennington we would be in the playoffs. Your words…not mine.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:41 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I never said he was better than Romo talent wise

If we played a the power running game for which this team is, whether you want to believ that or not, Pennington would of been a better fit if we actually played the way we were built, because we wouldn’t have been throwing down the field all th etime.

The cowboys right now are built to be a power running team setting up playaction, plain and simple, but with romo we spent too much time trying to make big plays all the time down the field…

by Deke on Jan 4, 2009 2:49 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree

But that isn’t Romo’s call. Garrett is the one calling the plays. Half the time Romo doesn’t have enough time to go through his reads to make a play.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:50 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

they couldn't run the ball today to set up playaction

what part of that dont you understand. It’s not that you substitute one QB for another and not change the game plan.

by Deke on Jan 4, 2009 2:45 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I understand that

But once again in Dallas it would be no different so what don’t YOU understand.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:45 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Pennington would of taken the check downs more and wouldn't have the turnovers Romo had

instead of throwing forty yards down the field having INT’S… checking down, moving the chains

I have no doubt if Pennington was the Qb under the system we should of been playing, we wouldn’t have lost 7 games..

by Deke on Jan 4, 2009 2:52 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Romo didn't have the time

During the end of the year. Pennington didn’t have the time today, similar to the way Romo didn’t have the time when he played the Ravens. Not to mention we played the Giants, Eagles, and Steelers, plus the Ravens. Four of the best defense. Romo had no time to make plays and to be honest I don’t think Pennington would have changed the lack of blocking.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:54 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm not puttng it all on Romo

All I’ve ever said is that he needs to take better care of the football, cut down on the stupid turnovers, two in the raven game were on him, learn to throw it away when there isn’t anything there and to take the checkdowns more. Romo, dont call it a punt when it’s second down, that’s riduculous

It doesn’t help when you have T.O running poor routes, stopping on routes, as the first turnover against Pittsburgh was. We never establish the running game enough early.

we had a great drive in philly going, running, hitting witten and the backs out of the backfield, moving the chaons, then when we get in the redzone on a third and two, we run some riduculous, shotgun, fake draw, lateral to a receiver two yards behind the line of scrimmage..

Romo still throws bad passes when he does have time

by Deke on Jan 4, 2009 3:05 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Fair Point

Glad we’re civil now. haha But in seriousness I really think they need to pound the ball a lot more like your saying. Set up for that play action and deep routes. And Romo throwing bad passes when he has time isn’t just him, many NFL QBs do that too. I think you give him time, like in the Giant game and he’ll make the plays.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 3:08 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i agree

Romo’s height disadvantage and the above average hight size of the O line He needs the run game to open the field up push back the line

by spursn4life on Jan 4, 2009 3:34 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And did we change

Our game plan for Johnson, or Brooks, not really we still tried to throw it deep over the middle, and force the ball even more.

by joey7289 on Jan 4, 2009 2:47 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Similarity to 2003

This game reminds me Parcells’ first playoff game as Cowboys head coach, although Pennington’s turnovers here are a big difference.

Down on their luck team, short on talent, makes the playoffs and lays an egg in their first game.

Game Rewind

The NFL now offers every NFL game via the Internet, going back to 2001.

I hope they expand that back into the glory days into the 1970’s…there’s a long list of Cowboys games I want to rewatch.

Not that much to cheer about for this team since 2000.

Pretty Sure

If you go the NFL.com site, and click on Scores, pick any week from the 2001 season, you’ll get the results from that week. At the bottom of each game there’s a link that says “Watch Full Game Online”. If you click on that, it takes you to the sign up page for Game Rewind, if you’re not a subscriber like me.

Since I don’t subscribe I don’t know if it works for sure, but the links indicate you should be able to see them.

Let's be objective

Aikman and Buck are just calling it like it is….we got smashed last week. We say other former players that are announcers should be objective and that’s what Troy is. I don’t want a homer for us or any other team.

by ButchJohnson on Jan 4, 2009 4:34 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He goes too far in trying to be objective

And ends up being over critical of us

oh really

remember back in the day when Aikman ddn’t get his way and started runnn his mouth offensive line got alittle weak at times ol Tboy took some hits

Oh I agree, but being objective

doesn’t mean you have to bring up the slaughter more than once or twice. How many times have they mentioned the game the Vikings won to get in?

by Benthere on Jan 4, 2009 4:38 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not in my opinion....

We need critical analysis……too much “cheerleading” led to a 9-7 season this year.

You don't here of Staubeck sellin out ,

but bet your ass he’s tryn to help Romo catch up on the years of experience that he shouldve had all along

Onomatopoeia players

this is just a stupid amusement while watching other teams play playoff games, but I was thinking about players whose names describe what they do. (Kind of like an onomatopoeia, a word that sounds like what it means.)

Here’s some examples I can think of, only current players:
- Quentin Jammer (CB)
- Rock Cartwright (RB)
- Leonard Weaver (RB)
- Lorenzo Booker (RB)
- Marty Booker (WR)
- Gary Brackett (LB) (bracket the WR)
- Michael Turner (RB) (turns the corner and turns it on)
- Ed Reed (FS) (read the QB)
- Chris Gamble (CB) (gamble to jump the route)
- Willie Parker – too much time parked on the bench lol (he was on my ff team)

any others? retired players?

Gash

Sam Gash FB

Thane Gash

Gary Plummer? maybe not

Michael Stonebreaker was the all time greatest name. LB/ST ND and Bears.

Especially Eagles fans. He’s one of the best QBs in the NFL year-in year-out.

Come and whisper in my ear, give us dirty laundry - ESPN

by Nelson... on Jan 4, 2009 6:27 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Kills us?

maybe. But looking at the way we split the games this year, i’m not sure how that game could be called any more than a push.

Theres obviously Eagles bias on this statement, but i think the Eagles will win this game. Its amazing what not having to double team Burress will do for a defense.

If we do win this game, you gotta like the Eagles chances the rest of the way

If you can't sell out a playoff game, should you lose the right to have a home game?

by 700 Level on Jan 5, 2009 11:38 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's for sure

Its amazing what not having to double team Burress will do for a defense.

It’s like getting a twelfth man on defense. The Giant’s fans and the medial can claim otherwise all they want but when you don’t have to double team ANYONE on the opposing team’s offense then you can pin your ears back and rush the heck out of the QB. Hence 8 sacks when we played them. I get the feeling the Eagles will be using the same game plan against the Giants that we did.

by kameleon_o on Jan 5, 2009 12:41 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Panthers matchup better with you than Giants. Im sure they would prefer the eagles.

Your blitz packages you guys thrive on will be lessened. They run the ball as well as the Giants and they have Steve Smith. Personally I dont care which of you guys win Im pulling for yall to kill each other leaving the winner impotent for the NFC championship game.
