Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

Troy Aikman

So im sitting here watching the Eagles and Vikings game, and the first quarter has just ended. The thing that I have heard the most from our beloved commentator is how he frequently likes to reference how much the Eagles beat up on the Cowboys last week. This has happened atleast nine or ten times in the past fifteen minutes, which I think is ridiculous. I think he goes out of his way to put the Cowboys down, and he makes it sound as though he played with the eagles and is going to bed with Donovan after the game tonight. I just think its ridiculous.

Troy Aikman is a joke

him and Joe Buck.

Aikman is not a true cowboy like Michael Irvin. He stabbed Chan in the back and he always comes out as the ‘good guy’…please.

I am really getting tired of this broadcast crew

Joe Buck is a textbook douche. Aikman is either bitter against the Cowboys for previous actions or jealous that he is not playing for them anymore. He goes out of his way to dump on them, while he is constantly singing the praises of his former NFC East rivals. He gushes over Andy Reid, McNabb, Clinton Portis, and even Eli at times.

Does anyone here ever watch the CBS pregame? They make impartial predictions while acknowledging and not abondoning their past affiliations.

Hopefully the Cowboys will have more of their games called by Moose, Goose and that funny looking guy next season.

I understand your frustration but.....

He is talking the truth. We were beat pretty bad by Eagles. Aikman ain’t making up things so I do not have a problem with that. In fact, I want him to quote it as much as he can hoping that it will burn some of the boys watching the game. What else can a fan do from the outside to get his team fired up (except praying).

And for Longhorn, no offense dude but Aikman knows more football then you and I.

uhh

did i say i knew more than him?

by Longhorn on Jan 4, 2009 5:27 PM CST up reply actions

I realize

that what he says is true, and im not denying that. it just seems to me like he goes out of his way to bring it up, yet rarely praises the cowboys when they do something well.

funny

I’ve always maintaned that Aikman and Staubach are the 2 best qbs in Cowboys history but Romo has the potential to be better…only time will tell I guess.

As far as Cowboys passing records are concerned, I have no doubt Romo will own all of them by the time he’s done playing.

but three super bowls? I dunno bout that…

I never said Romo would win 3 SB

I said he has the potential to be better, big difference.

Manning will probably only end up with one SB but he’ll probably go down as the greatest qb of all time.

Just a difference in definitions I guess...

Tomayto, tomahto (That’s the best way I can spell that saying haha). I don’t care about numbers or records. I want wins. Period. Whether he’s a bus driver or Jesus with a helmet on, I don’t give a damn. I want big, fat, obnoxiously shiny, diamond-encrusted rings!

by AikmanNailedMySis on Jan 5, 2009 8:00 AM CST up reply actions

I think all fans want that

but Troy has 3 rings because he played on the greatest team of all time. Romo will never have the opportunity to play on a team as great with as many great players or coaches.

If he gets 1 SB, I’ll be really happy considering the state the franchise is in right now.

Be careful, or someone will start thinking that you’re a realist. ;-)

we did get beat by the eagles

but yea troy always goes out of his way to prove he’s not a homer for the cowboys
especially when covering redskins games
every 10 minutes hes talking about how clinton portis is his favorite player and how he likes what the redskins are doing this year blah blah etc.

Aikman

anyone think there’s any chance he’d go into coaching? Would he be any good?

by SB2008 on Jan 4, 2009 7:40 PM CST reply actions

Let's find a way to ask him

how he feels about the current team’s problems vs. the issues his squad had that were registered nil by the sweet smell of success.

Bottom line on Aikman – he is always towing the NFL line. (Or is it toeing? Never learned that idiom correctly…) Wouldn’t you do the same if you could be set for life?

Stop Whining

He’s a commentator now…in fact, he’s the best color guy on the top rated NFL broadcast network. He gets paid to be objective. He’s always thought highly of Andy Reid (who time and time again has outcoached Dallas in key games going back even to our dynasty years).

Having an expectation that he won’t call it like he sees it is silly.

I, for one, applaud his candor.

Romo could use a lot of what Aikman brought to the table.

You know how you know Aikman's fair?

All of the Cowboys fans think he is horribly biased against them, and all of the non-Cowboys fans think he is horribly biased for them. I’m a property appraiser, and when I get phone calls complaining that I came in too high and phone calls complaining that I came in too low on the same day, I feel like I’m doing things right. I’d say the same is probably true for ex-players that are now in the booth or studio.

Not so much Aikman

He’s just the puppet to Joe Suck. Sorry, I too noticed the over zealousness with which they mentioned last weeks’ fiasco in Philly. Had it been mentioned maybe twice, well you just have to deal with it. But those two hammered it like they had boated a shark. I understand being unbiased, and had they mentioned the Vikings edging the Giants with the same frequency then maybe I’d have chalked it up to lack of content to discuss during the game, but it was a bit overdone in my opinion.

All and all

Aikman is my second favorite commentator behind Madden.

But it does feel like he’s trying extra hard to prove that he is not favor of the Cowboys.

That said he did say back in 2007 that Romo will break any record that he (Troy) has set by the time he retires.

0 = The number of Super Bowls the Eagles have won.

I agree

I would have to say Madden and Aikman are the very best NFL analysts going right now.

he’s your football God.

it’s not like he’s lying about the beating we administered your team.

And as a Cowboys fan, I never thought I'd agree with an Eagles fan but you are right

Tryo needed to explain how the Eagles, who were left for dead at the midpoint of the season, made the playoffs, and part of that improbable story was the Eagles beating the tar out of the Cowboys

Aikman sucked against the Eagles too

Even when he “led” the Cowboys to victory over Philadelphia, it was usually a result of Emmitt or the defense winning the game, not by Aikman doing anything special. His record against Philly as a starter was a middling 11-11. Some Philly games where Aikman blew chunks include:

1991: 24-0, sacked 11 times and 3 ints
1992: 31-7, 3 ints
1995: 20-17, 28-11-110-0-1
1996: 31-21, had team in position to win, threw game-ending end zone TAINT

Not sure why I am listing all this, but just want to remind everyone that he really was nothing special against the Eagles. Except, of course, in the playoffs (2-0 and 49-32-450-3-1).

by DavidH22 on Jan 5, 2009 12:34 PM CST reply actions

I agree with you 5Bling

he’s a commentator… plus he’s not biggest fan of the Jerry running things. When JJ made a comment about chemisty in the locker room being overrated after the Pitt game, Aikman came out and disagree with that. As a matter of fact he went on to say after the NYG game the Boys would not make the playoffs because of it. He was right about it.
I just think Aikman takes shots at the way things are being handle around Valley Ranch.

The team’s taken on the coache’s personality..soft, undisciplinant, not paying attention to detail, can’t make in-game adjustments on the fly when things aren’t working, and just flat out not ready from kick off.
Aikman knew as well as anyone this was one of the most talented teams the year but failed to even show up in the Philly game. So taking jabs is sort of a wake up call.

Let’s see if Jerry answers. NOT

No Team

…had higher expectations and poorer on-field results.

We deserve every shot we take this off season and I hope the players and coaches use that to fuel their workouts and preparation leading up to opening game next year.

Trust me

If the Cowboys came out and finished 12-4, won a couple of playoff games etc next year; then Aikman would no longer be harshing on them.
