So now who are you rooting for?
Well another Cowboys’ season has ended in disappointment, (maybe a Lion’s fan can be happy with a 9-7 finish but we Cowboy fans are used to the post season).
So the question for the remainder of the post season is who are pulling for? For me, it’s the Chargers. Going all the way back to the days of Dan Fouts this team has always been my “B” team or second favorite. Now ad to that my desires to see Norv Turner do well and the Chargers become the natural choice.
Now while there is no way that seeing the Chargers win out could ever compare to seeing Dallas win it’s sixth, it would still be nicer than say, seeing the Giants go back to back.

semi agree
i wouldn’t mind seeing carolina or arizona win… it would be sweet for warner to go out on top? maybe… and i really don’t think you can count out the panthers with their running backs

The Ravens
Love their defensive ability and take-a-ways. They can make any QB look like a Rookie. Can’t wait to see that Baltimore/Tennessee game next week.

that game might go into double overtime tied at zero…

Someone has to win, so how does that work?

loses.

I disagree.
Like Shannon Sharpe said this morning, isn’t defense supposed to win Championships? The Colts had 3 third down opportunities to get the Chargers off the field, plus Peyton Manning had the ball with less than 3 minutes left. All they had to do was run down the clock, but they couldn’t. There are 3 parts of a team, offense, defense, and special teams.
by Baked Potato Soup on Jan 5, 2009 3:23 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
So...
What if the Colts won the toss and the game? Is there defense better than the Chargers’ because they won the game? Why don’t you just play each game where the first team that scores wins? Maybe there shouldn’t be any OT and ties should make a return. If the game is tied in the playoffs then play 10-15 minute OT periods until the game isn’t tied at the end of the OT.

It would be the same as it is now.
Does every team score on every possession? No, the other team goes out and stops them. They don’t do it like that in regulation, because that is not sudden death. Both teams had a full game to win, and when they didn’t, the first team that scores gets the win. If you played regulation games as the first team that scores wins, most games would be over in less than 15 minutes.
In 2007, 15 games went into overtime. 9 were won by the team that won the coin toss, but only 7 on the first possession. So in more than half the cases, the team that go the ball first did not automatically win without the other team’s offense “getting a chance.” Obviously disregarding all of the chances that both teams got throughout the game.
The Colts had 3 chances to get the Chargers off the field in overtime, and they didn’t. It’s their own fault that their offense didn’t get on the field.

and then there's the Detroit Lions
A team when they have go to overtime, rare as that may be, prefer to kickoff than receive when they win a coin toss….. they’re in a clueless catogory all by themselves..
by Deke on Jan 6, 2009 10:51 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Well, if you're defense is clearly better than your offense...
Maybe? Like their current offense and the Ravens D?
by Baked Potato Soup on Jan 6, 2009 11:01 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
The college system is better...
I’d like to see the NFL try the same overtime rules that the NCAA uses. At least you give the offense and defense a chance to make an impact.
Garrett needs to get a clue!

Bob Ryan on ATH had a GREAT idea...
He put it simply. Keep it the same, with the sudden death rules, except take away FG’s. For a team to win the toss, get a big return and one decent play then a FG to win, is LAAAME. But no matter what the circumstance if you drive down the field on your first drive, whether the other team has a chance or not, you deserve the W. I do like college rules better, but I think this was a great idea, even though it came from a Boston guy…

and btw,
I work in Baltimore and if the Ravens won the title, there’s a 99% chance I’d throw myself head first into traffic…And I know you all would miss me too much on BTB for that to happen…

not so
the facts don’t back that up, otherwise the competition commitee would change the overtime rule. The last time I saw the overtime win percentage, a couple of years ago, where the first team that gets the ball wins in overtime was something like 51% to 49%. If that number today is close to that, the NFL isn’t changing the overtime rule. The Colts had three penalties in overtime that cost them that game resulting in first downs, it wasn’t the coin flip that did them in…

Chargers.
Norv is a good guy. I waited on him once when he was the coach of the Redskins, and he was just a super nice guy. I was really disappointed that we didn’t get him as our coach here.

After this weekend
I was pulling for the Falcons, Dolphins, Chargers and Vikings…sums up my season. Guess I’ll stick with the Chargers and anyone opposing the Eagles, then Giants. Is there any way they can both lose next weekend? Second thought, Eagles are enemy no 1, I cant stand their Chester the Molester lookin coach or McChunky actin a fool on the sidelines.

Why so much hate for Philly?
Personally, I’d much rather see the Eagles get their first than see the Giants get their 4th. Am I the only one who hates the Giants more than anyone else in the division? Look at it this way, if the Eagles win the Super Bowl, the NFC east will become the first division in the NFL to have all of its teams win at least one title.
Plus they’d still be 4 behind Dallas, :)
I’ll definitely be rooting for the Eagles this Sunday to beat the G-men. I want any chance of the Giants going back to back eliminated immediately. Right now the ‘Boys are the only team in the division’s history to repeat as champions and I’d like it to stay that way.
0 = The number of Super Bowls the Eagles have won.

Myself, it's just an inverse reaction.
The way their fans have treated us over the years made me despise them more and more until it eclipsed the Skins and Gmen. I’m sure it will change because it used to be the Skins on the top of my list. And to go waaaay back, Cleveland and Green Bay once sat on the throne of my most despised teams.

Even Carolina or Arizona. Anyone except Philly or NYG.
At least the Cowboys can be proud of the fact that 5 of their 7 losses came to teams that made the divisional round of the playoffs.

Not the Steelers, either.
Forgot to put them in there. I can’t stand them either. The other AFC teams need to be on the lookout for their QB’s knees and for helmet to helmet hits away from the play.
