The Hydra
Can we start calling our running back tandem "The Hydra"?
I just think it's awesome. It needs a name; a good, original name. Hit and Run was cool when it was just MBIII and El Gato. But now that The People's Choice is in the mix, we need a new name.

The Three-Headed Monster is already taken ... at least I think it is. I'm relatively sure that was used by Filthydelphia back in the days of Duce Staley, Brian Westbrook and Corell Buckhalter. And we certainly don't need to piggyback on any history of the Eagles' ... especially considering they have no history worth mentioning.
Earth, Wind and Fire is a hot name, too. Gotta love that name. I guess the NFC East knows how to market themselves.
This is why I recommend The Hydra. A multi-headed beast with snake heads, taken from Greek mythology. Chop off one head, and another grows in its place. Fits in perfectly with what happened this season. Stop our hottest RB in El Gato, and you have MBIII to pick up the slack. He goes down, and The People's Choice steps into his place with no dropoff. Just like the heads of a Hydra.
Just let it perkilate. The name will grow on you.

Running game? Running Game?
Doesn’t that really depend on your offensive line to really have a running game or not?

As long as Garrett is our OC
We are never going to be a running team so in reality our three headed monster will more likely be a one and half headed monster consisting of MB3 primarily, the Cat occasionally, and Choice, hardly at all unless the first two get hurt.

I doubt that very much
Part of being a youn coordinator is a maturation process that everyone must go through. While Garrett has sometimes neglected the rnu this season, I see no reason why he cannot improve and start emphasising the run more in our offence. Especially now that he knows we have three very talented running backs.

not going to happen
Bottom line is that your offensive identity is either going to be one of a running or passing team and I guarantee you that so long as Romo is our qb and Garrett is our OC, the offense will run through Romo and the passing game.
Garrett might try to become more balanced, but never to the point where our three RBs become the central identity of our offense…will never happen with Garrett and Romo here.

Aussie, I respect your fondness of Garrett, but..
I myself also believe that the combination of Garrett and Romo will not be broken and pass will be the only thing on the menu whether we like it or not. It’s part of the problem Jerry created when he payed Garrett what he did, as well as make it look like “he is our head coach in waiting”. It was a dumb move on Jerry’s part, and I think Jerry even knows this now too.
Until a new Coach comes in to change the mentality of the players by bringing the fear of losing to they’re doorstep, The offense will remain the same. Wade Phillips is out of his league coaching the Cowboys- Wade Phillips, a man I respect, and wish we would NOT fire, yet I see no alternative to solving our problem- coaching. Can Wade be made into our Defensive Coordinator? Can he co-exist with our new HC, say, Shannahan? I would love to get Dom Capers as DC if Wade leaves, but Wade may stay as DC out of shame- we don’t know yet. This is all conjecture by me, of course (a small ant of a fan in the giant ant colony known as the Dallas Cowboys fanbase) but could this small ant of a fan have any credibility as far as what would be best to happen for his favorite team to finally and really get over the hump and kick some but?

I think Aussie, also, that you....
are posting on behalf of defending Garrett, because deep down, inside, you even know that the Cowboys were foolish to not even give Tashard a chance to play until they had no Choice (pardon the pun). Why no touches for Tashard until the Pittsurgh game? It was a foolish offensive decision to not play the running back until that game. Felix went down for good in the AZ game, but some of us, like myself, would have wanted Tashard to see SOME action from the beginning of the season. I had seen enough of Tashard in College and preseason to know what was going to happen when he finally did get on the field.
Here is still even another “Run offense” decision that has me still scratching my head in disbelief:
Why no Felix Jones in that first Redskins game?
Boy, Jason Garrett did lose alot of my respect after that decision. This, from someone who played in the same backfield as Emmitt Smith. You would have never really thought in your wildest dreams that someone from that background would sweep away the importance of the running game so easily. Okay, say to me “Tashard is no Emmitt”, and I would say “No one ever will be” or “He doesn’t have to be”. If you say “Felix Jones is no Emmitt Smith Either”, I will say “No, and he won’t have to be either”, and this also includes Barber. But this does not excuse the be-littling of the importance of the running game.
Others that have posted in regards to my plea for us to become “run first” have lashed out at such a notion. They have even said that when Emmitt was here, we still were passing alot more than running. I would say to that “Good, because if we can pass, then we should”, but in reality, how good passing a team do you think we would have been if at least the fear of running the ball wasn’t in the eyes and minds of the teams we played? Exactly my point. We need to make running the ball a priority. If we can run the ball effectively, we can pass easily.

The Hydra is cool.
Maybe if Cricket gets better in short yardage and becomes an elite blocker, then he can be another head, too.

In 2008 the Cowboys ran 401 times
their lowest amount of carries since 1990, when another inept offensive coordinator (David Shula) was in charge. And by the way of these 401 carries, 30 were attempts by Romo/Johnson and 9 were rushes by receivers like TO, Crayton and Roy E. So in truth, the Cowboys had about 360 rush play calls from scrimmage in 2008, or about 22.5 a game.
Considering that the team had Bash, Dash and Tash…THIS IS ENTIRELY UN-EFFING-ACCEPTABLE!!!!
They need to rush the ball about 480-540 times next season.

Cowboys will never run that much with Garrett as OC
Actually, running 20-25 times is about right for the proper balance we need. The pass/run ratio should be 30-35/20-25.

Let's why i pray daily that Garrett gets the f%#*@ outta here...
cuz it should be 30-35+ rushing / 20-25+ passing to win in this league…
55% rush 45% pass….or even 50-50, or even 55% pass 45 % rush….you win games…..check the data…..either way, our 60% + pass to to run ratio is pathetic…
when you have one of the best stables of RB’s in the league..you use them…
