We could use

a guy like Duke Robinson at gaurd from Oklahoma, but right now he’s having a terrible game already costing his team with mental mistakes (two penalties).

What's this scoreless tie crap after one quarter?

I was expecting 77 combined points and 1,400 yards.

by MadMick on Jan 8, 2009 8:03 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

True.

I was just thinking earlier that would be a big benefit of having playoffs instead of the bowl season. Then again, if there were playoffs, Florida would’ve had to win a couple of games without the services of Percy Harvin.

He'd be a major project.

Stranger things have happened like Kordell actually starting a couple of AFC Title games. The thing about Tebow is I don’t ever recall him making many long runs. He’s more of a power runner than a fast guy so I don’t know how long he’d last trying to bowl over guys in the pros.

Under the right coordinator, he could be a very unique weapon as some sort of hybrid running back/tight end and a nice addition to your trickbag.

by MadMick on Jan 8, 2009 8:30 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn't want a major project early in the draft at the Qb posiiton

I see him as a third rounder at best, and as a H-back or tightend in the pros.. He’s got talent but I can’t see a team taking him as a QB early in the draft, don’t like his throwing motion at all..

Vick wasn’t a Qb either in the pros. You see what happened in Atlanta this year when they got a real player that actually plays the QB position…

Vick wasn't even in the league

I think you mean Chris Chandler.

by Deke on Jan 8, 2009 9:29 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Agree.

Also I’d add to that the major difference between Tebow and guys like Vick and Young is that they’re much faster than him and even in the pros can break 40 or 50-yard runs. I don’t recall ever seeing Tebow have 40-yards gains running the ball even against wicked stepsister teams like the Citadel or Jerkwater County Plumbing School or whoever. Taking whatever his 40-time may be out of the equation, is Tebow really that fast or quick at all that he’s going to run away from anybody or be nifty enough to move the chains with his feet? At any rate, Vick flopped because he never really developed as a passer. As a runner, he was the sickest threat at QB since Randall Cunningham.

On the other hand, Tebow’s running style just isn’t that conducive to being an effective scrambling QB in the NFL. He may be built as solidly as McNabb but he’s not remotely as fast. He’d be like the Marion Barber-equivalent to a scrambling QB. The SEC may be a hard-nosed conference but I can promise you nobody Tebow’s bowled over can compare to the Ravens linebackers. If Tebow tries bowling over guys in the pros, he won’t last.

Tebow

will be and NFL quarterback his attitude is as good as it gets, any coach would want him on his team he inspires people and elevates the players around him. he’s projected as a 3rd round pick, but there are a ton of QB’s that have been very successful in the league lower than a 3rd round pick. I can’t believe I’m giving the kid so much props, I’m a FSU fan, but Tebow is just this good.

by iCowboy on Jan 9, 2009 10:19 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'd select Tebow on leadership skills alone.....

being a longtime FSU fan myself, He’s the best leader a football team has ever seen….I once begged and prayed we would have a shot at Emmitt Smith years ago….That dream came through….I hope and pray we have an opportunity to draft Tim Tebow one day…He is the IDEAL #2 QB to groom for this team, and any questions, or worries about his throwing technique or delivery can be easily tweaked and honed over a period of years…. He showed me everything you look for in a QB last night, intelligence, game management, accuracy, arm strength, will, desire, toughness, and above all, leadership. Not just on offense, but he commands the entire teams unity and devotion.

Ummmm….Can you find a better player to run a wildcat style game ?? or rev up the team’s spirit and commitment to perform at high levels…I think not…

I think he would be better served to stay another year and cement his legacy as the best college player of all time….which I think he already is..but 2 Heisman’s(should be three) and 3 National Championships might play a role in him coming back for his senior year…He is GOD on campus…and if comes out this year, and available at our first pick, there is no question I’d select him, regarless of who else is there…

He’s strictly backup material at the NFL level. He is a great college player, however a lot of times those type of players don’t transition well to the NFL.

Everyone thought the same thing about Vince Young and he turned out be a horrible NFL qb.

by Terry on Jan 9, 2009 10:46 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Personally I think..

your wrong, certain people have what it takes to be successful at everything they do. it’s a mindset a determination, a never accept anything less than your best and lower than anybody else’s best. Tebow has that, I guarantee you as any coach in the NFL if they’d take him on their teams and they would all say yes. The kid is a winner, pure and simple, look at Romo, 1AA winner, never drafted, used to winning and being successful. He was in a system for a few years, had his shot and showed everybody what he can do. Tebow is the same way, I would LOVE to have him on Dallas. I’m not saying have him come in and take over from the start I’m saying sit him for 2-3 yrs n then let him have a crack at it, the kid commands respect. I know people say he’s a system quarterback, but yea so is Stafford and Bradford and McCoy, the problem is that Tebow’s is based on running but if you look at his passing numbers against what people say are the best defenses in the nation (SEC) they are freakishly good. yea he had 2 pics against OU, but they had a month to gamepland and he still had 200 + passing and 100+ running. And, you can’t compare him to Vince Young, he is a better passer, and much more accurate, Young needed his legs more than his arm, Tebow is not like that, he’s a good passer, but people put this stigma on him saying he can’t throw simply b/c he CAN run. Ill take Tebow any day kids has heart.

Tim Tebow is NOT and will NOT be an NFL Quarterback

classic college quarterback…..third round pick at best and is either an H-back or tightend in the pros…..His first INT last night shoud show yu all you need to see about his arm strength and his horrible mechanics which doesn’t translate to the pro quarterback posiiton.. Any team wasting their time drafting him as a quarterback wil be just wasting a draft pick..

Vick isn’t a pro quarterback and neither is vince young

I never said to be THE man....I love Romo, but having a guy behind him the team would rally around if Romo went down, is what's needed...

You think this team thought we had a chance to win when Brad Johnson was forced to come in…..I saw a Dallas team concede the losses as soon as Romo went out…..knowing they had no faith or chance what so ever with Brad there….

Tebow would be Romo’s biggest cheer leader, biggest backer, and might just possibly rub off on Romo to be more assertive with his leadership abilities…

we are the same page..

I think Tebow with a good QB coach, may have a chance..

I wasn’t overly impressed with Bradford, but I think he can play at high level at the next level. Neither of his picks were really bad decisions. His WR’s had a shot at both of them.

Tebow a cheerleader?

I dunno if you have watched that show on CMT “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team” but there is no way he is fitting into a uniform.

Heart, Will, Leadership aside, wether he is 1st, 2nd, 3rd string or practice squad. I want a QB on the team who’s best qualities best translate into on the field productivity.

What I saw from Tebow in this game was an inability to identify the zone blitz and most of his passing yards came from YAC from his various weapons.

Do the cowboys need heart and leadership? Yes. But that should come from the coaches on the sideline and the QB on the field.

I don’t see much from Tebow that leads me to believe that he is an NFL quality QB. And if he isn’t on the field in the huddle then that’s what he is a “cheerleader” so you might as well squeeze him into those ity bity shorts.

I agree Tebow is a hell of a guy but I just don’t see him having what it takes to be an NFL QB. But I’m not an NFL scout.

Since I live in Gainesville........

I haven’t seen much of the Sooners this year. But damn, even though they only have 7 points at the half, i am still very impressed with there offense. And just because i live here doesn’t make me a Gator fan. Im actually a transplanted Tarheel. But its amazing how people around here think anything outside of the SEC is garbage. People were calling on the local radio shows predicting a Gator victory with scores of 52-17 and 45-21. Its just unreal how much homerism there is around here.

Young is no Tebow...please....how can you compare that scatter brained numbskull to Tebow...

There is much difference between the two…….intelligence, commitment, leadership alone devide the two by miles………compare the college numbers….no comparison…

You compare Young with Demarcus Russell….then you have a match…..neither are Tim Tebow…never will be…..you don’t learn or be taught the intangibles that Tebow brings to the table….He’s a born leader…and can will his team to win…..few other QB possess such qualities….college or pro…Tom Brady and Peyton Manning being the closest as far as commanding the huddle, and delivering..IMO
