Week Five: Fantasy Focus on the Cowboys
It's Saturday, so it's time to talk some fantasy football! Let's preview and predict which Cowboys will be fantasy studs, and which will be fantasy duds against the Chiefs.
QB Tony Romo - In each of the last two weeks, Romo has thrown for 255 yards and no touchdowns. Last week against the Broncos, an INT and a lost fumble added insult to injury for Romo owners. This week, he will face the 28th-ranked passing defense in the Chiefs. All signs point to this being the game for Romo to break out of his funk - well...maybe not all signs. WR Roy Williams is doubtful due to some cartilage damage he suffered from stretching out for one of Romo's high throws.
The Dallas coaches would love to go into their Week 6 bye with a 3-2 record. What could be of even greater significance is if they could do so by putting their signal-caller in a position to have a breakthrough game. This funk of Romo's has to end sometime; playing the 0-4 Chiefs should help. Rumors from Valley Ranch suggest that Romo has been trying too hard to play "under control". Expect him to loosen back up to his old gun-slinging ways.
The Cowboys' offense took no shots down the field last week. No way that happens two weeks in a row.
RBs Marion Barber, Tashard Choice - Barber (quad) was still listed as probable this week, but he practiced fully and should revert back to his barbarian-style running. The Chiefs allow 128.5 rushing yards per game. Dallas' big offensive line has paved the way for a per game rushing average of 163.8 yards. This could end up being a huge game for Barber. It's not too far of a stretch to think he could have more than 100 total yards and a score or two.
The only thing that could take away from Barber this week is how the Cowboys utilize Tashard Choice. Because Felix Jones will more than likely miss his second straight game, Choice will be the only other runner the team fields. He already gets the majority of the 3rd-down snaps, which is a little bit of a bonus for PPR leagues. Even if Barber's quad is at 100%, Choice could easily see 40% of the carries. If Dallas rests Barber, Choice is the man.
Make the jump for the rest of the Week 5 Fantasy Focus.
WRs Patrick Crayton - Crayton moves into the number one position because Roy Williams is highly doubtful for this game. Crayton is a do-everything guy for the Cowboys. He returns punts, which helps in leagues that give points for return yards. He often gets in on one end-around or reverse per game, and is good for about four catches. Without Williams in the lineup and if Romo attacks the Chiefs' secondary, Crayton's catches could be up more towards 8-10 balls.
Miles Austin, Sam Hurd, and maybe even rookie Kevin Ogletree (if activated) are also in the mix to pick up the slack. Austin would get the start opposite Crayton and could pull in a big play or two like he did in Week 1 against the Buccaneers.
Overall, the Dallas WRs are risky starts. They will continue to be so until Romo and the rest of the offense consistently puts more points on the board (just 24 offensive points in the last two games).
TEs Jason Witten - Denver did an excellent job in bracketing Witten all game. He finished with 4 catches for 31 yards. That is a darn good Mile High defense. The one in Arrowhead Stadium? Not so much. Expect Romo to feed Witten the ball early and often.
K Nick Folk - Dallas should be able to put up some points on the board against the Chiefs. Folk is a solid start this week.
Cowboys D/ST - Slowly, but surely, this unit continues to improve. They have held opponents to under 20 points per game. The pass rush is improving (3 sacks @ Denver) and DeMarcus Ware forced a fumble in last week's game.
Where's Ware? Everybody seems to be asking that. This has to be the week Ware gets a sack. He's more than hungry; his stomach is growling. Combine that with LB Keith Brooking's lights-out leadership in the middle and CB Mike Jenkins' improved play, and the Cowboys defense could really do some damage this week.

After four weeks of fantasy footballing on FleaFlicker, just one team remains undefeated in the BTB and BTB Part Deux fantasy leagues. Here's what's up in BTB's world of FF.

What
do you guys think of Jamaal Charles? You think he gets a chance to be the main guy this year? I had to drop him in my big money league but Im thinking of grabbing him again.
meh
Pretty good back, but I get the feeling they don’t trust him in KC. He puts the ball on the turf a lot it seems. I’d rather have Jerome Harrison if he’s on your wire. Who else is on your wire?
Summarizing the Dallas Cowboys in two words; inconsistently amazing.
I
grabbed Harrison 2 weeks ago! Yeah buddy!
Ummm … access to fantasy is blocked here …. but off the top of my head, it’s mostly scrubs. I grabbed Fargas since McFadden isn’t going to play for a few weeks … for some reason though, I was a big Charles believer. I thought he’d take the starting job.
He fumbled the opening kickoff against the Giants last week.
That really put him in the doghouse, but Larry Johnson only averaged 2.9 ypc against the G-Men. Personally, I would wait to see how Charles plays against the Cowboys because all signs are pointing that he ain’t in charge.

BTW
If you’re planning on playing Harrison this week, keep a close eye on who’s starting Sunday because it looks like Jamal Lewis may come back! Yuck! I think they’d be fools to not give Harrison the nod after his last 2 performances.

I’ve had to start Harrison in my PPR league cuz of injuries and he’s score me 13 and 18. Of course, they did have an extra quarter last week.
Word is, is that Buffalo is missing 3/4 of its starting secondary. Mossaquoiaioueiouu is like a top waiver claim this week.

unfortunately
I have to start him no matter what. Felix and Buckhalter are hurt. Hester is on a bye. Holt sucks. Fargas … meh. I’m stuck starting him. I just hope they realize Lewis sucks, and won’t give him many carries.
Well
I’d still expect split carries even if Lewis is back. He’ll still be productive, I’d just lower expectations.
Summarizing the Dallas Cowboys in two words; inconsistently amazing.
yeah
my main concern is Addai … I hope his hand injury doesn’t kill his production … if so, I’m screwed for this week
I have Addai too in 2 of my leagues.
This hand thing just popped out of the blue this week?

If you play fantasy you shouldnt be starting any KC players...
They all stink in fantasy football. Jamal Charles isn’t even worth sitting on your bench.. With RW out, Crayton could be a good #2 WR option this week. Romo and MB3 are both good starts also….
Ogletree gets a TD!
Na, probably not, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he did! I think Romo throws for 2-3 TD’s so he’s definitely worth the start. I’d be scared to start any of the WR’s. Both backs should have a pretty good day but I think it’s Barber who finds the end zone. Folk should be atop all the kickers this week, maybe top 5. I’d expect the Cowboys DST to be top 8 or so.
BTW, if the Saints D is available on the wire, go get them, they’ve been awesome so far.

Who should I start between Portis, Slaton and Ahmed Bradshaw?
Portis has the best matchup of the week, and picked up 98 yards last week, but still doesnt have a TD on the season.
Slaton finally got on track last week, but faces a tough Cards defense.
Bradshaw is still the second guy in NY, but faces a weak Raider’s D, and with Eli’s injury, the Giants should run a lot.
Right now I’m leaning towards Portis and Slaton.
The Knights season may have just ended, but the Cowboys year is just begining!
The skins leaned on Portis heavily last week against a weak TB rush D and it paid off.
I’d fully expect them to do the same this week. You can start 2 of the 3? If so It’s easily Portis and Slaton.
Summarizing the Dallas Cowboys in two words; inconsistently amazing.
Here in San Antonio, I have to watch the Texans games.
They really do work Slaton, especially since Chris Brown cost them the Jags game by fumbling in the EZ for the go-ahead score.
Bradshaw had a boot on his leg last week. Stay tuned, aussie…I have some digging to do on him for the Beasts in the East Report that should post today.

Paralysis by analysis, weigh in please, I am stuck
John Carlson vs Jacksonville or Dustin Keller @ Miami
Fred Jackson vs Cleveland or Addai @ Tennessee
Carlson (Hasselbeck is back)
Addai (Lynch got more carries last week, and I think it’s going to keep growing), but either one is a decent start.

Tennessee's defense
is only allowing 2.8 yards per carry, it is their pass defense that is very weak right now. Donald Brown is a better play than Addai
I've seen Hasselback is now listed as probable.
Honestly, I’m a sucker for playing guys on MNF so I’m starting Keller or Winslow this week.
Addai is questionable, so that scares me. Brown already gets a good amount of his carries. I’d go with Jackson based on how integral he is to Buff’s offense even if Marshawn gets the start.

Hmm
I really think they’ll be splitting touches pretty evenly for the entire season
Summarizing the Dallas Cowboys in two words; inconsistently amazing.
Here's what Buffalo Rumblings says about them on the FF page.
Fred Jackson – He’ll remain Buffalo’s "starting" running back for the foreseeable future. He’ll see a lot of playing time. But his workload will undoubtedly be reduced now that a certain suspended running back is no longer suspended. Jackson has been a fantasy mainstay early in the season; while he may be slipping from that status, he’s got a good matchup this weekend, and is a must-start in PPR leagues. Start ’Em in PPR, Consider as Flex in all other leagues.
Marshawn Lynch – His return to the lineup came at the cost of a fully effective Jackson, with less than a yard per carry from Lynch himself, and two moderate gains in the receiving game. Lynch looked very rusty in last week’s loss to Miami, but he has a chance to kick it into a higher gear now that he’s got a game and two weeks’ worth of practices under his belt. Still, Buffalo has tended to go with the hot hand in the past, so if Jackson gets hot, Lynch might not see the field. Sit ’Em, but only for now.

I was thinking about dropping Washington
I have R. Williams, Berrian, S. Smith (NYG) and Braylon Edwards. Think I should drop Washington or shop Roy Williams?
You could be right.
I’ll give it a couple weeks. Thanks. Think Braylon Edwards might come alive with the Jets? My fear is he’ll be this years Roy Williams. Worthless for the rest of this season, but might be a factor next season.
it's possible
I think he’ll do a little better in NY than he has the first 4 games in CLE. A borderline WR2, maybe.
Wait until Roy has a couple of good games
Right now his value is pretty bad. You probably won’t get much for him unless you wait.
Summarizing the Dallas Cowboys in two words; inconsistently amazing.
My dilemma
My WRs are all second tier cuz I drafted heavy at RB and took Witten early.
So here’s who I’m looking at this week (Pick 2, please!):
Santana Moss @ CAR
Pierre Garcon @ TENN
Steve Breaston (Q) vs. HOU
Sidney Rice @ STL
I’m leaning towards Garcon and maybe Breaston—this is a standard, non-PPR league.

I’d rank them
Moss
Garcon
Rice
Breaston
but Moss and Garcon can be flipped. Garcon seems to be their big play guy now.
Really? Moss?
He scares me. Great the last couple of weeks, but he only had 2 catches last week and I heard (I think on DC.com) that Moss goes one week big, one week bad. That’s prolly more in reference to last season though.

um..a little help please..
(Cowboys bias aside) Tashard Choice @ KC or Chester Taylor @ StL
SF DST vs. Atl or Den DST vs. NE

I'd take Choice and SF.
Choice should see more action than Taylor. I say SF defense strictly on a hunch that Denver’s due for a letdown. That’s two tough draws for a defense.
I like choice.. but the only reason I'd go against SF
is because I think the Falcons are fired up and ready to get back to business. And NE isn’t the team they once were.
Denver game
It seemed Romo attempted to correct his poor ball handling last game. But has not been able to get the right combination. Good QB and ball protection. He seems to be see sawing back and forth between the two.
