crazy in the end zone in a big old love pile, all because they beat an 0-4 team that is really really not very good

i really hope they build on this win and start playing better football

we are playing so poorly right now

the team needs something to get excited about

by foyesboys on Oct 11, 2009 3:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Absolutely.

It’s wins like this that bring about unity and inspiration that can carry them for the rest of the season. Best parts were obviously the emergence of Austin, the continued outstanding play of Brooking and Ratliff, and the smart, efficient, good play of Romo. Now if Wade can figure out how to stop those crazy end of half/game drives, this team can go on a roll.

I thought Romo played pretty well today

everything around him fell apart. Oline was porous. No run game. Needed to lead a comeback. ANd did….

I still don’t trust him in big games untill he gets out of his funk hes been in, but he played well today.

He played VERY well.

He didn’t get frustrated even though his receivers weren’t helping at several points, he trusted his teammates, and he protected the ball. And he was rewarded with a high passer rating, a game winning drive, and a nice win.

The resume of this team through five games is disturbingly mediocre.

For that, I am frustrated.

With this win, every other NFC team breathes a sigh of relief that Wade coaches through season’s end.

For that, I am angry.

I won't. D crumbled in the clutch. Receivers dropped everything thrown

to them in the first half, including a couple of touchdowns. The safeties suck. The penalties were appalling, and the O line was ridiculous at times. And I’m still happy the Cowboys won, and I’m glad Romo had a good game, and Austin made up for his mistakes in the first half.

well..

A win is a win. I was happy to see romo making some good plays and looking a bit more like his old self. But…

These guys just showed me a glimpse at a very long season..this is a team the Cowboys should have put away easily and still couldn’t get it done. Too many mistakes..mental errors..and terrible coaching. I won’t talk down on a win..but this means very little and if they don’t come out of this bye week with a lot of things fixed this is looking like 7-9..8-8.

Point of note..Romo haters need to realize that there are a great number of flaws on this team that do not involve him.

Wade Phillips has never won a playoff game as a head coach..he has lost 4 home playoff games.
His longest tenure as head coach was 3 years.
Only once did his record as a HC improve from one year to the next (by 1 game)

True, but...

No point in being unhappy about winning. They still absolutely need to analyze what went right and wrong and go from there, but I’ll tell you the truth, in my mind, the most important thing that happened was Romo staying smart and focused, and if he keeps doing that, the rest of the team will fall in line.

Miles Austin

To the people who are saying Austin’s performance is due to poor tackling, I think that’s off.

Austin has consistently shown the ability to break tackles. He’s a big guy at 6’3" / 215lbs. And on that last play he showed a tremendous amount of body control to break the tackle. He’s done that enough times now that I think we can say that there’s a pattern, and the pattern is he’s good at breaking tackles. His career YPC back that up as well.

And he is outstanding at exploding to full speed from those situations, too. He doesn’t have much wiggle, but he goes from 0 to full speed in an instant.

consistently

twice in this game.

broke a tackle against tampa to take it to the house.

last year against GB he pinned down the db to catch a long td.

on another play today he outmuscled the db to prevent a pick and come up with a catch.

I’d say yes, Austin consistently shows the ability to out-physical nfl players.

The biggest key to this team winning is Tony Romo.

And today, he showed that he can have the patience and perseverance to get it done. It wasn’t a pretty win and the Chiefs aren’t a great team, but it’s the NFL, and on any given Sunday, etc. There’s a reason that Vegas stays in business.

I found the win encouraging because Romo stayed smart, went back to guys that let him down earlier in the game, and didn’t make the crucial mistakes that he often does in tense situations. As long as he continues to do that, the rest of the team will continue to develop around him. This D has 5 new starters plus a new nickel LB this year, and they will continue to get better as the season goes on. Special Teams have clearly improved, despite the rare fumbles by Crayton. And this offense has weapons, and if some of the more fragile players can stay healthy for us, the team could easily get on a hot streak.

Not a pretty win, not a great team, but a lot to build on, and it made me happy for now. Nice way to go into the bye.
