Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Why keep watching?

9 points.

That's the combined score that we lost our two games by.
Both losses came in the closing minutes, and both times, we had a chance to hold on for the win.

Star-divide

But the Cowboys blew it.
Brandon Marshall didn't bull his way thru a crowd of defenders, he ran past the keystone cops.

Eli Manning took advantage of the short fields he was given, and *still* almost didn't make it happen.

I haven't seen so many flukey plays (witten foot interception), boneheaded mistakes (offsides, defense!) and poor officiating (helmet to helmet hit on the QB not called) in I don't know when.

But, even as *horrible* as some of these games have been, we have not been blown out, and in both losses, it was spectacularly bad plays on our part that led to the losses.
We were not dominated by any means.
In fact, remove the Cowboys gaffes, and the Gnats and Denver both get a loss.
But that's how the game goes.

I look at the Gnats, and though they cruised thru 4 other teams very easily, it took the Cowboys spotting them free points and some last minutes heroics to win that game.
Now that all the trash teams are out of the way, let's see how they do in this 6 game grinder that is on their schedule.

I look at our next 6 games, and while not easy, we do at least have a good shot at a 4-2 split.

I think that by the end of November, we will find that the Cowboys are not as bad as they appear, and the Gnats are not as good as they appear.

I still think the last game with Philly will be the "Brawl for it All" in the East.

Seriously?

You think this team is going to contend for the division title against Philly in the final game?

I want whatever you’re smoking/drinking/mainlining. In fact, I’ll have a double.

Wow

U r the most negative person out there, to say that we have no chance continually, it is a downer for all of us that still have a glimmer of hope, yes we have lost 2 games by shooting ourselves in our own foot, but you have to remember, this team practices every week to get better to eliminate those mistakes, right now we still don’t know how far this team will improve

I agree

if this team continues to make these same mistakes, it will be a pretty miserable season.

But they drop the stupid mistakes, it will be a very interesting season.

that which doesn't kill you, probably hurts like hell.

I know I'm normally grouped into the "negative" group for some reason...

But I think that if Romo can play consistently, this team will win enough to make the playoffs. Yeah, it wasn’t pretty against the Chiefs, but look at the 2 games we lost, and if Romo had simply done less poorly, the Cowboys cruise in both of them.

by Baked Potato Soup on Oct 12, 2009 3:18 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed...

although I think some better defense could have won those games as well. Regardless, the point is well taken.

I know there are problems

but do you really think this team is so bad that you have no faith?

We play a mistaken ridden game against the elite (so says the media) Giants and still almost win. A seven point loss to the 5-0 Broncos, on the road, when we play below our ability. I know that there are ifs, but if we play consistently we are as good as anyone. Why no faith? That is part of being a fan isn’t it? Having faith and believing that your team will put all the pieces in place to make a good run at it.

There are too many teams over past years that I can point to and show that they were in shambles at one point in the year and were able to put it all together

by sduncan24 on Oct 12, 2009 6:21 PM CDT up reply actions

they're still MY Cowboys as well...

… but the inconsistencies/lack of discipline drive me absolutely crazy.

from 2007 up to the present, the majority of the current cast has regressed.

what’s that saying, “the apples don’t fall too far from the tree?”

with the utmost respect towards you i ask… does that kind of leadership instill confidence in you for the remainder of this season?

i will yell and scream for my Beloved Boyz when they make great plays, and i will yell and scream at them when they make bonehead blunders. that won’t change.

but nothing under the Phillips administration over the last season and five games leads me to think that things will get better.

it’s like a company whose price to earnings ratio continues to get worse, whose stock continues to plummet, whose board executives continue to make poor decisions… yet they barely change anything and blindly expect their business to all of a sudden go on the upswing.

insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again… expecting a different result.

yes, it’s insane being a Cowboys fan these days.

but i will stand behind my team and continue rootin’ for them.

however, i’m not gonna lie… there has not been enough consistent fruit birthed thus far to gimme much faith in this present squad.

just being true here.

What I have gathered from watching the games is that this team is good enough, but there are some changes that need to happen. Mainly getting out of their own way, and I believe that they can and will get this thing headed the right direction. The talent level on this team is as any team in our division and I think we can win games against NY and Philly and come out of this division on top. I have watched the same team as you, I have many of the same feelings about the inadequacies of this team, the difference is that I have faith that the issues will be resolved and winning will come.

Have faith my friend, just believe, because as a fan there is nothing else you can do (at least I hope they don’t decide it is time to suit you up for a couple downs)

hahaha. U won't see me suiting up anytime soon.

and btw, i do hope you’re right about these issues being resolved.

man, it hurts that we lost that Giants game. we dominated that game statistically, and we ran at will on that vaunted defense… but there was just no way to overcome our many, many turnovers. plus our defense was absolutely horrid to boot.

that loss kills me more than the loss to Denver.

That's the "take the good with the bad" part.

That loss sucked a lot of wind out of my sails, but it was week 2. I made myself feel better by realizing that we DID play well enough to win. Which feels a lot better than KNOWING your team was out manned. I haven’t had that feeling all year. And that gives me a lot of hope. To top it off, I’m actually glad we seem to be “flying under the radar” this season. I think the guys on this team were the victims of their own press clippings last year and couldn’t hold it together at all when it counted the most. Not seeing that this year either. I’m keeping the faith.

by Benthere on Oct 12, 2009 9:49 PM CDT up reply actions

I fall into this category as well

I don’t know if the negative guys watch other teams than the Cowboys, but to act like a little bit of get right won’t solve these issues is looney.

I just cant decide how I’m going to feel about all the gloom and doom fans when we win.

Welcome them back with open arms.

Different people show their support in different ways, and they do have legitimate concerns. If the Cowboys get on a roll, the negative posters won’t be as negative.

by Baked Potato Soup on Oct 12, 2009 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions

dont get me wrong

negative posters are very welcome in my eyes, you have to have all sides of the equation represented..

but something just feels unnatural to me about people that cant do anything but focus on the negatives as if the positives dont exist.

the redskins would kill to have a quarterback like romo, yet some act as if he isn’t a top 100 quarterback, much less top 15. if the quarterback sucks AND the coordinator suck beyond belief… how do we consistently break every cowboy record there is? other teams aren’t doing this to their record book, and only 2 other franchises have 5 or more trophies.

see, i live in DC so Cowboy fans are common, although we aren’t the majority. I feel about the negative-only fans the way I do about supposed cowboys fans that can’t name more than 10 players. are you REALLY a fan?

The thing is, this team is maddening.

They alternately flash immense talent and then disappear. Romo is wildly inconsistent. Garrett makes great calls, then turns around and calls 2 goal line fades from the 1 when his run game is dominating. If the team was just bad, it would probably be easier for most fans.

What ends up happening is that some fans decide they can’t trust the team anymore, and instead of believing the positives are the real Cowboys, now believe the negatives are the real them. When the team continues to make the same mistakes over and over, fails to improve in key areas, or goes against conventional wisdom regularly without positive results, it’s easy to understand how someone could feel that way. Since beating GB in 2007 to go to 12-1 that season, this team is 14-12, so I can understand the frustration.

by Baked Potato Soup on Oct 12, 2009 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Cowboys = Amazingly Inconsistent

I have faith they can turn it around though because the necessary pieces to win are here, they just have to get them all to gel (something they haven’t done for quite a while).

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Oct 12, 2009 4:05 PM CDT up reply actions

They are consistent when it comes to making 'mental' mistakes.

There just isn’t that big of a difference in talent in the NFL (Raiders excluded). You just can’t continue to have constant penalties and turnovers. It’s a losing recipe.

Now, I was impressed that they ended up putting it together in overtime, but we still had what could have been a killer penalty right before the winning score.

by Road Warrior on Oct 12, 2009 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions

And THAT'S what is so frustrating.

There is mega talent on this roster.

On both sides of the ball.

But there’s too many mistakes by players on the field with no hardcore accountability.

There’s too many stupid in-game decisions by the HC/DC and OC.

The talent on paper is not translating to consistently fruitful results on the playing field.

Not trying to be negative. My intent is not to be negative. I wish I had no reason to be negative. I hate being negative.

All I’m doing is venting my frustration and stating my analysis.

BTB is my therapist, and it provides me an outlet.

Being North of the Border

I get a lot of Buffalo and Cleveland radio stations on my drive to and from work. The guys on these sport shows look with envy at the Cowboys. Not because they win all the time, but because they have the potential to win. This is something their teams rarely have. Even Deke has to admit that the Cowboys do have the players to compete. Whether or not they will win [ don’t ask Deke ] who can say. They will compete.

With the current state of the cowboys..

I don’t see us making the playoffs. This can change with a solid performace and victory over the ATL Falcons. If we were in the NFC or AFC West, I think we would have a great shot, but we aren’t.

You don’t lose to a divsion foe at home when you score 31 pts. You shouldn’t be in a dog fight with KC Chiefs-We were losing 10-0, to a team with 24 yards of offense. Come On!!

We have to tighten it up. We have the ability to score, but the offense beats itself. Either Turnovers or penalties. The Defense loves to give up big plays.

rollercoaster

as a cowboys fan we are subject to extreme highs and depressing lows. part of it is our expectations. we are spoiled. a lot of us don’t appreciate what we have. dallas has the potential to beat every team on any given sunday. yes it can be maddening but oh well-enjoy the ride. and what a ride it can be. i’m very passionate about the cowboys but i also know when they lose so do 16 other teams in the nfl. it’s not ok but it could be worse. you could be 7 years old watching 1980 nfc championship game at s.f. and when montana throws that floater to clark and he catches it, you cry your little eyes out. so no matter how bad it seems to me, it will never be that bad again.
