Lovin me some Brooking
When Dallas first signed Brooking I was skeptical! Thinking maybe he lost a step, why else would the Falcons let go him after last year! This guy was born to be a Cowboy! Reminds me of Jack Del Rio. Leads the team in tackles with 37 solo 29. That stuff on 4th down against Denver brought me out of my seat! He has my vote for the pro bowl already. Not to mention he is becoming the leader on D. Something Zach Thomas couldn't even sniff last year! Don't even get me started on Ratliff. Now all we got to do is work on our two minute Defense!!!

I like how brooking's personality is starting to rub off on other players:
case in point, witten becoming vocal this past game; when is the last time you heard about witten being a vocal member on this team? I hope what brookings has is contagious they are going to need it with this coaching staff.

many people here wanted dawkins in the offseason
Not saying they were wrong or anything, but so far, Brooking has given us everything we could’ve hoped for and more in the leadership department.

I wouldn't mind having both Brookings and Dawkins
though only a short contract for Dawk, I think. Use him instead of Gerald Sensabaugh, and have Mike Hamlin learn from him. What might be interesting is that that both Brian and Mike went to Clemson, so they would already have some connection.
That’s not to say I despise Sensei, but he strikes me as being pretty much average, which is a big improvement over past few years at the SS position!

was there any reason the Cowboys did not pursue Dawkins?
Signing Dawkins would have been worth it just to see all of the eagles fans having heart attacks

They went out and got a spiritual leader for the defense
A veteran who’s all heart. Guy fits in perfectly with the scheme, makes plays, and gets the same point across as a Ray Lewis-type, without all the rah-rah BS. You can tell the guy’s 100% genuine(I still think Ray Lewis is 50% BS for the cameras) and absolutely loves the game. HUGE addition to the defense. I liked Zach Thomas, but it’s clear he wasn’t who we needed. Brooking had no qualms coming in and assuming a leadership role. He actually seems to relish it.
I really wish we had the guy all along. It’s a shame he’s only going to be around for a couple of years. It’s almost a tease. Hopefully he rubs off on somebody who’s going to be around for a while.

During the entire game...
You could see Brooking running up and down the sideline.
He was into every play of the game, being the first to hype up any offensive player making plays coming off the field.
And he has been in big D for less than a year!
Love to see that kind of emotion out there…..great off season pick-up.

I thought signing Brooking was a great move from day one
The dude is a former 1st rd draft pick and pro bowler with plenty left in the tank. He was obviously playing out of position in a 4-3 outside in Atlanta, but it’s obvious he is a true inside 3-4 LB and his play and leadership has been top notch.
Great signing by the team. Grizz should be proud of his former Yellow Jacket.

You're right..
That’s exactly why Atlanta let him go. Hate to give credit to everybodys whipping boy but I think Wade had a big hand in signing him as well.

We need more guys like him. Pro Bowl year in my opinion.

Brooking keeps bringing in it..
Been closely eyeing him from day one and he keeps getting better and better week after week. Great ball hawking skills and finishes off witha pass breakup or for sure tackle. Not to take anything away from James but Brooking has been exciting to watch and been very reliable. I’ve missed the linebackers play with excitement in recent years like the days of Nguyen, Del Rio , and especially Ken Norton. If Brooking isn’t a team captain yet, he should be.

BJames is an average LB. And one of the players I wish they would seriously re-evaluate and determine his actual value.
I’m ready to clean house after this season. If anyone wants to play next year…they better prove something this year! LOL

Disagree on James
Not saying he’s Ray Lewis, but isn’t his main job to take out blockers, jam running lanes, and free up Brooking to be more active. He’s not that bad at coverage either.
Wade’s put him in position to also be a factor on those inside blitzes, and he’s gotten very good at it the last 2 seasons.
I think he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He’s signed to a cap friendly contract. I don’t think he’s one of the roster spots that needs upgrading.
3-2 headed for the bye week.

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater
Agree James is not as good as he thinks he is, but he’s servicable. Our big LB need will be a replacement for Barbie Carp, hopefully that player is already on the roster with one of these many LB’s we’ve drafted over the last couple of years. I’m as excited as anyone about Brookings, but he’s a 2 year fix, if that much.
Safety, OLine and WR are the priorities in next year’s draft, but something tells me the latter 2 positions will come out of FA. We have about $20MM in dead money coming off the payroll next year. And I don’t like the failure rate of high WR draft picks.

I think Carp is a big reason our 3rd down defense
at the end of games have been bad, he is a severe down grade from Burnett.

Anyone know
how Burnett has been doing this year?
Have not heard anything either way.

he had one good game
I thought i heard he was kinda struggling in the first couple games aside from that one

Terry is right though
Burnett is a big improvement over Bobby. Even if hes not doing that well in SD

Terry, again I am in violent agreement with you
Maybe during the bye Butler moves up?

no, Butler is strictly an OLB
If anyone moves past Carp, it should be Williams.

jason williams, right?
I wouldn’t mind seeing that. At least on about half those snaps so the rookie doesn’t get overwhelmed.

Can't wait to see him start making plays
That injury set him back a bit, but as soon as he’s got the assignments down, look out. Other than Ware, he looks like the most athletic LB we have.
3-2 headed for the bye week.

Too bad his injury...
has set him back this year. I was hoping Jason Williams might work his way into the nickel packages by mid year.
Garrett needs to get a clue!

Brooking brings emotion
and since our coaching staff has none, we need players to bring it. I was at the game behind our bench and there were only a few players I saw consistently showing emotion; namely Brooking and Witten. Choice and Barber would be the next most emotionally charged followed by Ratliff (though Rat was typically too exhausted on the sideline to do much barking).
It was disheartening to see how business-like most of the team was. Before the game got going, the Chiefs were all standing in anticipation. The Cowboys were filling the benches with little excitement or anticipation of the opportunity to compete and perform. I can appreciate business-like when I can see the focus in your eyes (Mike Singletary), but it seemed to be more lax that we need or want.
