They might be giants.

Just not today.

Hallelujah!

All praise the Saints.

Brees

and the Saints look scary. Up 14-0

by Tristan on Oct 18, 2009 12:29 PM CDT reply actions

Brees is on a roll

looking like the best quarterback in the NFC

by Deke on Oct 18, 2009 12:30 PM CDT reply actions

Err

might be overturned. Either way they are on the 1 yard line at worst.

by Tristan on Oct 18, 2009 12:31 PM CDT reply actions

I’m watching the Saints-Giants game online and it the broadcast is on SkySports. I think that’s England but not sure. In any case after each series they are analyzing the game. Mike Holmgren is there as well. It’s pretty weird.

I figured

it had to be since the English accents plus I know SkyOne is based in England as well.

It warms my heart

to see the Saints taking it to the Giants. But it also scares the hell out of me for when we play them later this year.

I'd really like to laugh at the 'Skins.

But the fact is the Cowboys haven’t been much better.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 12:39 PM CDT up reply actions

every coin has 2 sides, but

you are right on the money, when we gave away the giants game it deflated the team so bad, it will take few quality wins to get back again to that level

by dcfanz on Oct 18, 2009 12:43 PM CDT up reply actions

well..kinda

we’re just bad in a different way…we seem to self destruct on about 4 drives a game. Regardless of the Defense. The skins just stink lol.

by foyesboys on Oct 18, 2009 12:48 PM CDT up reply actions

I meant the Cowboys have only beaten winless teams themselves.

And very easily could’ve lost to a winless team a week ago.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 1:03 PM CDT up reply actions

while true

at least we play well for 70% of the game – its that other portion where we play like garbage that kills us.

The redskins just look like a bad team.

by foyesboys on Oct 18, 2009 1:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Hold on,

The Redskins gave the Lions their lone win.
They gave Carolina their only win.
If the Chiefs take them today, that’s three winless teams that got off the mat vs. Washington. Dallas isn’t remotely that bad.

by Rafael Vela on Oct 18, 2009 1:05 PM CDT up reply actions

where can i watch Skins going down

by AJA on Oct 18, 2009 12:42 PM CDT reply actions

we also smashed that defnse

The Giants have a way to go still for me to believe they’re real. Dominating the Chiefs, Raiders and Bucs doesn’t automatically make them a great team.

by foyesboys on Oct 18, 2009 12:52 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

we put up 31 on them, even with 4 TOs

by scottmaui on Oct 18, 2009 12:53 PM CDT up reply actions

thats the most disheartening part of the loss to the Giants

and no one of the talking heads is picking on it: “Giants are great and Boys are crap” go figure. And there is no bias, whatsoever.

by dcfanz on Oct 18, 2009 12:56 PM CDT up reply actions

whats disheartening

is a great effort by the majority of the team get spoiled by a couple awful plays by romo. But thats in the past lol..positive thoughts!

have you watched the browns this year????

they have alot bigger problems, one major one is Mangini, he’ll be gone after only one year as their headcoach

by Deke on Oct 18, 2009 1:14 PM CDT up reply actions

I never really understood

why Mangini got another coaching gig immediately after being fired by the Jets.

by Tristan on Oct 18, 2009 1:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Pats rep is that strong.

Plus he did lead the Jets to a playoff appearance.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 1:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, it doesn't matter that they are a joke of a franchise

or that he’s had some of the worst coaches in the NFL.

Coaching doesn’t matter, you’re right.

by ChrisRichey on Oct 18, 2009 1:19 PM CDT up reply actions

So he's great because you like him?

I honestly don’t know what he is in terms of being a quality NFL QB. But it’s pretty fanboyish of the guys that constantly dump on Romo to shun criticism of Quinn so easily.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 1:22 PM CDT up reply actions

So he sucks because you don't like him?

I am big supporter of Romo, but it’s ridiculous to write Quinn off.

by ChrisRichey on Oct 18, 2009 1:24 PM CDT up reply actions

I haven't wrote Quinn off.

But there were people who thought Quinn would have as much of an aptitude for the game as Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco which he clearly does not.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 1:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Besides that....

Maybe Quinn will become a good QB in his 4th or 5th year. Hell, maybe Leinart will, too. But the fact is the damned fools who wanted Quinn probably thought he’d instantly step in and be this cure-all. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 1:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

Did you think Aaron Rodgers was a bust before last year too?

Good lord. Lay off the sauce.

by ChrisRichey on Oct 18, 2009 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Actually, little buddy; I've brought this up before.

If anything, it’s moronic to bust on the Cowboys for passing up on Quinn when they had not one but TWO shots at Rodgers. That’s the real crime and at the moment if I was being totally honest I’d take Rodgers over Romo.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 1:24 PM CDT up reply actions

I said NOTHING about Dallas passing on Quinn

Read what I’ve written before you spout off. I love Romo, but Quinn can still be a good QB in the NFL.

by ChrisRichey on Oct 18, 2009 1:25 PM CDT up reply actions

As is your penchant for assumptions.

You bring random player Aaron Rodgers into the discussion. Well, the fact is that making assumptions about how good Aaron Rodgers is or isn’t because he couldn’t supplant future Hall Of Famer Brett Favre would’ve been downright goofy. On the other hand, you have Brady Quinn who has played and who can’t even beat out perennial tradebait/seatwarmer/placeholder Derek Anderson. Yes, the comparison makes a lot of sense.

NOT.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 1:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Also. Nothing wrong with extra sauce.

How else would I ever cope with the bye week?

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 1:45 PM CDT up reply actions

what fools are you referring too

ther cowboys who had him ranked as their 8th best player on the board, are they the fools you are referring too

by Deke on Oct 18, 2009 1:22 PM CDT up reply actions

He hasn't played but a handful of games

the problem is with the rest of the team, starting with the front office, then the headcoach,. they traded away their starting weapons from last year, what would you expect, this isn’t fantasy football

by Deke on Oct 18, 2009 1:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Quinn still sucks

and it would have been stupid to draft him like you wanted.

In Romo we Trust

by Terry on Oct 18, 2009 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Terry, you really need to get your facts straight

I’ll tell you again, maybe you’ll get it this time, the cowboys, not me had him rated the 8th best player on their draft board, if that’s the case, as Jerry continues to tell everyone, thet you draft to your board and take the best player available, something you say all the time, then you take that player if he drops to you in the twenties

by Deke on Oct 18, 2009 1:25 PM CDT up reply actions

It's not Quinn's fault he's not starting

The kid has got play 6 games in 3 years and he’s been stuck in Cleveland. Now he has to deal with Mangina. I really think him being benched has a lot to do with his contract.

by ChrisRichey on Oct 18, 2009 1:15 PM CDT up reply actions

no, qb and coach have nothing to do with

receivers getting great separation, thats all on them. Just proves Jerry’s theory about being able to get good receivers late in the draft and in FA.

In Romo we Trust

by Terry on Oct 18, 2009 2:27 PM CDT up reply actions

when the qb scans the field as well as brees

it matters. At least 15 qbs in this league do a horrible job at this and 25 including Romo don’t do it nearly as well as brees. There have been a few times i’ve seen Romo lock on to a wr and miss wide open ones.

I agree talent has something to do with it, but i don’t think its a coincidence that an average wr in Lance Moore (imo…he may actually be well below average, im not sure he starts on any other team) has a great season with Brees at the helm

I don’t the the giants are incredibly overrated – they are absolutely top 10. But they’ve now been torched against the only two respectable offenses they’ve faced. SO they’re kinda in a similar position to us – all their games have been against really good offenses (when we don’t get penalties, we’re really good) and really bad offenses where they padded their stats.

I'm listening to the 'Skins radio guys

Sam Huff and Sonny Jurgensen are NFL royalty. Long-time Hall of Famers. Old, distinguished Redskins. And today, they sound like two senile uncles. It’s a bit sad. Sam is trying to have enthusiasm and Sonny sounds like that jaded, “I’ve seen this movie before”cynic. Just now:

Sam: That number 98 made a great play! He threw the Chief for a three yard loss, that number 98.
Sonny: That’s Orakpo, Sam.
Sam: Does he get credit for a sack on that play? That was a great play!
Sonny: It was a handoff… to the running back.

One minute later, after KC kicks a FG to take a lead.

Sonny: Back in the day the cheerleaders used to chant, ‘we want a touchdown! We want a touchdown! Today, they’re chanting, ‘we want a field goal! We want a field goal!’

Harsh

It's kind of scary...

Seeing how easy those Saints make beating the NFC East leaders.

But, hey, maybe the Cowboys will go back to that preseason dink ‘n dunk and march down the field 8 minutes, 15 plays at a time and Brees won’t have so much time to score points.

As far as the Giants game vs. the Cowboys… If they had just taken a little longer to score that final touchdown, the Giants don’t get down the field quickly enough to score. :P

We need to win 2 against them, and beat the Raiders, to have any shot at the post season.

by HudBaby on Oct 18, 2009 4:22 PM CDT up reply actions

the austin misconnection wasn't forced

but it was a heck of a play by bailey to make the INT. usually that will fall harmlessly to the ground

by foyesboys on Oct 18, 2009 4:42 PM CDT up reply actions

well, more than just those 2 turnovers

I remember a stretch in that game where I was using terms like joke and embarrassing, and they Pam Oliver said the team itself was using those words. The D was good until that last drive and made up for it in OT, and they got it together on offense later on, but for a while there we looked really bad with a whole spate self-inflicted wounds.

But I also heard on one interview, maybe Bradie James? they he heard that the coach told the players this was their most important game of the year, circled on the calendar, they wanted more than anything to beat the Cowboys and prepared extra for us.

But to some degree, that is true for most teams. Cowboys have a target on them, always have, or at least as long as I remember, and sometimes analysts and media forget about this, but it’s true. Teams are more likely to bring their A game vs. the Cowboys.

by scottmaui on Oct 18, 2009 4:02 PM CDT up reply actions

We were also hurrendous along the oline

But I don’t think its a stretch to say wthout those two early turnovers, its not much of a contest. They hardly moved the ball against us all day

So I’ll admit I haven’t given that show its due justice but once in a while it’s fun being a little facetious. Hell, I still miss Victor Lorenzo Mackey; most consistently good show ever.

They have like 10 posters named dawk

I love how ByeDawk was the only one intelligent enough to realize the eagles blew it by calling timeout with 2:02, giving the raiders the option of passing or running. WHich ended the game.

I think my favorite quote reading their blog was “our receivers can’t get open. And when they do, McNabb can’t get it to them. And when he does, they can’t catch it”. with more explicatives.

by foyesboys on Oct 18, 2009 6:38 PM CDT reply actions

Then somehow pull it together, and usually kick our ass when it counts.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 7:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Furthermore...

The one Eagles team that did get to the Super Bowl feasted on lamer-ass pansies than last year’s Cards; an 8-8 Vikings team and an extremely one-dimensional Falcons team with that puppy lover at the helm.

but the Eagles being 3-2 and in the same spot as us without a single legit win and 1 bad loss, considering all the praise they’ve received.. has gotta make cowboy fans happy.

In all seriousness, I think if we have playoff success in th next couple years we have to give credit to TO, cause i really doubt we stick with Romo at qb if it wasn’t for the way he and TO connected the first 2 years. Take away TO, give us anemic wrs, and we’re looking at Brady Quinn at qb.

random question from a Giants fan

which loss did you guys enjoy the most?

- Giants getting blown out by the undefeated Saints
- Redskins losing for the 3rd time against an otherwise winless team
- Eagles losing to a putrid Raiders team

I think if the situation were reversed and the Cowboys took the Giants place, I’d still enjoy the Eagles loss the most

really just an awful day for the NFC East though. I think we’ve definitely forfeited our claim as the best division in the NFL. Now we’re not even the best division in the NFC – the North is definitely better, and the South even has a claim.

North is not necessarily better

I don’t think we can say how one division compares to the other. Green Bay and Chicago have their ups and downs and while minny looks great, I think the GIants are better than them.

We’ll have a good feel for the south. 16 intra-division games will work that out. Right now we-re 6-3. 4-0 against the Bucs. 2-1 against the Panthers. 0-2 against the saints. I feel comfortable saying we’ll finish with a record over .500 against that division.

In Romo we Trust

by Terry on Oct 18, 2009 8:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I believe Grossman had pretty close to 8 good to great games..

And 8 horribly bad games in ‘06. At any rate, even I can’t deny that his bomb-hurling is what got the Bears past the Seahawks in the Divisional Round that season.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 8:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Okay, after reading that...

I’m sure he didn’t actually have eight horrible games but you get my gist.

by MadMick on Oct 18, 2009 8:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Actually...

I remember that season he had games where he played great, and games where he singlehandedly lost at least 4 games because of multiple turnovers (not counting that MNF game in Arizona where he was terrible but defense and special teams won the game).

by selke99 on Oct 18, 2009 8:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Can you be labeled a gunslinger without averaging 2-4 INTs a game?

I think in the end that mentality can hurt your team. You lose momentum, defense is out on the field longer. Can’t remember the details but I believe Chi had that first SNF game won against GB without those INTs. Give me the stability of QBs like Matt Ryan who have the potential to wing it but have the smarts/skill to not turn the ball over as much.

I’d argue that they have as much offensive talent as we do…our oline is insanely overrated given the mistakes they make. I’d take Roddy White over any receiver on our roster this year or last year.

Not if you're in CA

I heard they wan’t to ban plasma tv cuz they hog electricity. Those people in charge over there are insane control freaks.

How about LCD?

I like that as well as plasma (at least here in my study)

by jkdallas on Oct 18, 2009 8:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Not sure

It’s the whacked out enviros that don’t want you using electricity or anything else that might corrupt the pristine nature of nature. To some of them, it would be better for the planet if man didn’t inhabit it at all (and cows too, they fart too much). I say, yeah right you go off YOURSELF, if you think the planet would be better off without your freakin carbon footprint.

I can't imagine a plasma pulls more amps than a CRT.

I could be wrong. I’ll check that.
Perhaps they could go back to telegraph?

No friggin' way....

Unless you can provide a link, I’m not a believer.

However, that is one of the funniest damn things I’ve ever heard.

by tkosmith on Oct 18, 2009 9:48 PM CDT up reply actions

It's there

In their latest thread. Seems like they’re really really really pissed off at David Akers. Plus, whoever said that they are really loose lips with the F word, the S word and every other bad thought you can imagine, it’s way over the top. Bad, bad fans. Need to have their distemper shots.

Wow. Just.... Wow.

btw this game was a microcosm of Akers career since he shvaed the stache

He is awful when it counts, all his stats are padded from blowout games. The man sickens me

by fleeb on Oct 18, 2009 5:58 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs

That is outrageous. While I don’t read it as blaming the shaved lip being the reason Akers has stunk; It’s just ridiculous to even list that as a timeframe in his career.

Do you think Pro-Football-Reference.com will add that to his career statistic listings?

Akers Career #’s with ’Stache / Without ’Stache?

Plus, the Bears must be playing with a greasy ball, it just squirts out everywhere

Say fellas

Do we want the Falcons to win or lose here tonight? I’ve heard a few say they think it best that the Falcons win cuz we get em next week. I can’t think really agree that would do a lot for their mental attitude, maybe I’m wrong. I was wrong once. :)

i thought i heard them say something like since Atlanta's current coach has been there, they've never

lost 2 games back to back? is that right? if so, i think we should root for ’em to win….sounds like this coach gets their butts ready to play the week after a loss

I'd think we want ATL to lose, then Boys win next week...

…effectively gives a 2 game swing for wild card position if it comes to head-to-head match ups. As usual, I could be wrong

by jkdallas on Oct 18, 2009 10:10 PM CDT reply actions

given how good NO looks

I hate to say it but we need the atlanta game even more after tonight. We’d essentially give them a 3 game lead for that wc spot if we lose. If we lose next week we need to beat philly and GB for sure
