JJT doesn't deserve another click in my lifetime
And I knew that I deserved such a thing when I clicked his most recent post about how Roy Williams is a much worse trade than the one for Galloway...
It isn't just that he likes to delve in the negatives, it's that he doesn't make any sense at all...
Joey Galloway produced 2300+ yards and 11TDs with poor QB play? True. But his main point is that Williams won't be able to manage that kind of production in 2 years...
Galloway did it in 3 out of his 4 years.
And the book isn't closed on Williams, he can manage Keyshawn Johnson kind of production, which in no way equates to the value of the trade, but we can live with that kind of production.
What I know is that reading JJT's comments is such a waste of time that I'll try to suppress any need of reading his garbage.

I think it is presumptous of JJT to say that, and I personally don't like him
but it seems to be heading in that direction

I dislike his work
Everything is all negative, if he wrote one positive thing since he started writing for DMN I would be surprised

He's found his angle..and it points to the black hole
Stopped reading his tripe a year ago. It would be different if he had an ounce of objectivity but he only portrays everything in a negative light. Guess it gets him clicks from like-minded individuals..

actually Skip has been right on with his assesment
and he has constantly touted the Cowboys as his pick for the NFC this year. Skip’s problem was TO, and you can’t exactly blame him looking in retrospect
Coach Winters: Mississippi State's offensive set. 2nd & 2 on our own 24, what defensive set might we call?
Alvin Mack: Eagle Zipper Hero, unless the setback shifts into the I.
Coach Winters: Good..[clicks to next slide], third and seven?
Alvin Mack: Oakie Thunder Lion. {What's your assignment?}
Alvin Mack: Kill the quarterback. {{Coach Winters clicks to next slide}}
Alvin Mack: Hit the tight end so hard his girlfriend dies. {{Coach Winters clicks to next slide}}

No big deal in my book
I’ve only read 2 of his articles in my lifetime, and i knew what he was about. His opinion hasn’t made me loose any sleep. What he needs to be concerned with is (especially if he continues to write like that), what happens if Roy gets help at the WR position? The ultimate type of WR to have on the other side of Roy is a speed WR like a Terry Glenn (Miles Austin).
If the other WR starts producing, Roy will see single coverage. Then go ask JJT what he thinks. I bet Roy will make him wish he had never become a sportswriter.
Some of us out here believe it’s just gonna take a little time with Roy. But when it happens, things will dramatically change for the team.

Prepare To Be Surprised
I’m not an apologist for JJT by any means, but to say he never writes anything positive about our ’Boys is just plain wrong. During the 2007 season I remember numerous articles praising the team and Romo in particular. Every week practically. A check of the DMN archives for 2007 will prove that.

I Honestly Don't Understand It
I’m with Chaddus, it’s not the negativity, it’s the writing. It’s down-right piss poor. Earlier this week, after previously having praised the Eagles as a stand out team many times, he was bashing them for loosing to a “putrid” Oakland team. I don’t care what your record is, there are no “putrid” teams in the NFL anymore, and wins by Oakland and KC this weekend show it.
I actually think this is what JJT’s problem is, he feels like a fool when he misses his predictions and he takes it out in his writing. After the 07 season he was Ra Ra Ra Cowboys like every other NFL pundit, and when they made him look like a homer in 08 it seems like he got furious.

I agree he is not a good writer
but Williams has 13 games of brutal production and injuries.

A lot of times what he says is true
But yes, sometimes he can be a bit too negative. I don’t have as much a problem with the DMN as most others, though.

Chandus you still a homer!!?
Truth be told, media guys like JJT are always looking for the next pot to stir. Its people like you who feed the madness. Who not only read the crap, but then post it and talk about it in other forums. How many times is the last time going to be “the last time”? STOP READING THE CRAP!

I respectfully disagree
In my opinion, the sum total of JJT’s articles generally reflects the status of the team. When the going is good, he is more positive. When things aren’t so great, he points out the problems.
The Dallas Cowboys haven’t won a playoff game since 1996 and have only participated in two playoff games in quite a few years. That is not the record of a good team. Why should JJT’s columns be biased toward the positive when the performance of the team over the last decade or so has been mostly bad?
I perused the last ten columns by JJT. By my count (admittedly subjective), I have four negative, three positive and three balanced. That seems about right for where the team is right now.
So, if you are looking for a positive spin on everything, then no, you shouldn’t click through his columns anymore. But if you are looking for a balanced account of the Dallas Cowboys, then I think JJT does a pretty good job.

JJT and Stephen A. Smith.

Phew, Let's Not Say Things We Can't Take Back!
Smith is in a realm all his own. I have a dear friend from Philly who has had to listen to Smith for over a decade, and he would beat him half to death if he met him in the streets.
I love how Smith lost his job – at least partially – by his fight with Jenn Floyd Engel. He ordered the wrong girl to get him a cup of coffee.

JJT is a Waffler
He changes his mind if the wind blows in a different direction. I think alot of it has to do with his mood. If he is cranky, it is all negative things, if he woke up on the right side of the bed, he is optomistic.
Pick a side JJT, then write all you want. Its just the back and forth, back and forth that is getting tiresome to me.
by Boyz4Life on Oct 22, 2009 12:40 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
just curious
Why would you want JJT to ‘pick a side’? Don’t you want him to write about reality? The reality is that these Cowboys have been consistently inconsistent for about 25 games now. Why would a columnist write only positive articles or only negative in an environment where the team waffles between great, average and stinking the joint up? Why would you want him to?
Again, I’m just curious as to your thinking on this because I don’t get why bloggers are slamming JJT for telling it like it is. Frankly, I’m happy someone is holding this organization accountable for what is now going on two decades of futility.

Wait, are you actually saying this?
I’m just curious as to your thinking on this because I don’t get why bloggers are slamming JJT for telling it like it is.
He’s telling us like it is? As in he has the truth on his side? In which part is he right?
Where he’s saying that Roy Williams won’t match Galloway’s production in 2 years, even when Galloway produced those numbers in 3 years?
That’s the core of his opinion and you can’t have many cores as flawed as that.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!

Yes, he is telling it like it is
I agree with JJT’s prediction that Roy Williams will not match Galloway’s production. You are entitled to your own prediction. Extrapolating Roy Williams production in the 13 games he has played as a Dallas Cowboy, it would take about 72 games (4.5 years) to reach 2,300 yards and 60 games (3.75 years) to reach 11 touchdowns. It appears that the core of JJT’s opinion has quite a bit of merit. Only time will tell which of you is correct.
However, JJT’s main point is that the Roy Williams trade has been a disaster for the Cowboys. It has, and JJT is telling it like it is. My guess is that you simply don’t want to acknowledge that truth, so instead of countering it logically (which neither you nor anyone else has been able to do), you kill the messenger.
Like I wrote earlier, if you are looking for a positive spin on everything, then no, you shouldn’t click through his columns anymore. But if you are looking for a balanced account of the Dallas Cowboys, then I think JJT does a pretty good job.
by Cowboy.Louie on Oct 22, 2009 3:57 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's because you're counting last year...
Williams entered a team in disarray, in midseason, his QB goes down injured, he later goes down injured and the year ended.
If you want to count his first year, you should also do it for Galloway, 4 catches and 50 yards? He had a season ending injury? True, but in the end he also had extenuating out of his control circumstances that hurt his productivity.
Williams’s having a slow start? He’s still better than Keyshawn Johnson and he was productive for our team. Romo’s also better than Testaverde and Bledsoe.

My opinion (not necessarily pick sides-bad choice of words)
JJT: One article the Cowboys are great, the next article they stink. He doesn’t keep it real, he jumps to conclusions from week to week, month to month, season to season.
Reality is this team has some work to do, no doubt. He doesn’t write about reality. It is to the extreme no matter which way he goes.
I guess I just have a different opinion of him and his writing.

Just glad I take the Star-Telegram
Not that their writers are so much better…I’ve just never been able to stomach JJT. Especially when he’d appear on ESPN or the NFL Network discussing some Cowboys matter and act like he is the king of all Dallas media.

that dude is just worthless as a sports journalist
i wouldnt mind if he made sensible and quality arguments from time to time backed up by good sports knowledge… sigh, he’s just plain worthless and i havent read an article of his since one of his abortions of an article on the Rangers, wow.

JJT is just an attention whore
He has absolutely no journalistic skills, so he has to say crazy things to get attention. Case in point is all the posts he made about the Rush Limbaugh stuff. I think he made about 4 “Last Post” about that subject.
He’s a disgrace.

I used to think
that JJT knew what he was writing about when he wrote on football, but in the last couple of years, I’ve realized, that not only does he not know what he’s writing about when he’s writing about baseball, hockey, basketball, etc, but he has absolutely no clue what he’s saying when he’s talking about football either.

JJT A Very Race-Centered Reporter
80% of his articles show some hint or twinge of either racial favoritism. His huge article a little over a year ago about Pacman being a hyper-intelligent, misunderstood “brat”, as his idiot, in denial grandmother called him.
He’s a terrible reporter.
