Time to swallow my pride: Thank you Bill Parcells
Bill Parcells was an average coach during his tenure here, and an equally mediocre "talent evaluator." However, he did something that I think most coaches would not have done: he kept rookie Miles Austin on the 53 man roster. If anyone remembers preseason 2006, besides from one long td pass from Romo against the Saints in a pre-season game, Austin did literally squat in training camp or in the other preseason games. He should have been cut, but thankfully Parcells saw his raw talent and kept his fellow New Jersey native. And for that thank you Tuna.

I've heard of not looking a gift-horse in the mouth
did anyone see Miles’ teeth? I can live without seeing that shot again…lol
He seems to have turned into a fantastic WR with reliability as well as the big play ability he’s shown before. And he’s cut down on the drops (I don’t think he had any this week).
After two weeks?
Let’s check back in a year befote we go around dripping the anointing oil all over Austin.
Give opposing defenses some film on him and the realization they need to pay attention to him, then see if he continues to produce.
I’m excited about his play and always felt he should have been starting anyways, but I’m going to hold off on thinking he’s going to be the next Drew Pearson for a while.
Let’s see what he does in December.
Oh geez
i just went to Dave’s summary and he used the “oil” cliche too
I should have dug deeper!

Have you forgotten?
Ogletree is the next Drew Pearson.

Hopefully once defenses start scheming to stop Miles...
…the field will open up for someone else. Maybe even a much maligned Roy Williams.
The 2009 Dallas Cowboys: Talk to me in December.
The NFC East has won 11 Super Bowls; oddly none of those have come courtesy of the Eagles.
Well, we certainly owe a lot to Parcells
For example, he saw enough of Romo to keep him in the 53 man roster. Some compared Romo’s situation with Matt Moore, who didn’t made the 53 man roster in an attempt to get him on the PS, but Carolina took him. It is known now that Parcells knew that Romo wouldn’t make it to the PS and kept him. That was probably his best call.
And another thing is changing our team mold of player acquisition through the Draft and FA, and they have gone from one of the basement worse teams to a pretty good team, even though they have detractors…
Scott Pioli is seen as one of the best talent evaluators, right? Well, in his last 4 drafts he had 33 draftees, only 2 have made their way to the Pro Bowl and one of them is Gostkowski (K)… And only 9 of them have turned some sort of good production… That’s an awful record and the Cowboys have been much better.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
Romo remained on the 53 man roster because of Sean Payton and David lee's support
Parcells just deferred to them on that decision
That's the rumour... And still...
The guy pulling the trigger was Parcells. It’s just like the Spears-Ware rumour, Parcells had Spears high with the 11th pick, Ireland had Ware, they discussed their boards and the team took Ware.
Parcells pulled the trigger.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
Yeah because Parcells or any coach would go against his o-coordinator and his QB coach
Ok so I’ll give Parcells 10% credit for not being a complete idiot and cutting Romo from the team.
And Jerry pulled the trigger on Ware, the buck stops with him in the draft room not Parcells.
not a big fan of BP but...
give him props for Romo/Austin; but man did he blow it on all the OL he drafted who were busts.
"What we've got here is failure to communicate"
Parcells is not responsible for Romo
Sean Payton (a fellow eastern Illinois alum) brought him here and David Lee developed him
I think it's ironic
that one of the best QB/WR tandems now currently in the league are both undrafted FAs from division 1-AA schools.
In Romo we Trust
