Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Monday that he won't question offensive coordinator Jason Garrett's play-calling during Dallas' final drive Sunday in a 17-10 loss at Denver.
"I'm OK with whatever he called, yes," Phillips said.
[snip]
Jason Witten, who has almost twice as many receptions as any other Cowboy, stayed in to help block.
"They blitzed everybody, and you've got to pick up with somebody or they get to the quarterback before he can throw the football," Phillips said. "They brought eight guys, so we had to block."

Ok Wade, then here's a thought....
on 4th down, and they were bringing the farm…. why didn’t we just run it up the gut?

I consider the response by WP as a small nod to the perception that WP is not really the HC he is mainly the
def coordinator. WP saying that he did not know why MBIII did not come back into the game is a little hard to believe. I think he is either playing dumb (I know, oxymornon) or is taking that stance to distance himself from the offense. I really feel that other than the players the coaches are at odds with each other. Off and Def are in their own camps, and WP must believe that he must make the def shine so that he can pass off any Off struggles to JG. I do not think that WP believes he can avoid all the blame if the team struggles on offense but he will salvage his rep as a def coord at least; he may know that it is very likely he will be looking for a job next year and it won’t be for a HC position.

I've given up on this group
These guys won’t do anything as long as Wade Philips is head coach. Jason Garrett is a problem, too, but Wade is the main one. As long as he’s head coach, the Cowboys will continue to be a middle-of-the-pack team. When he’s fired, then I’ll have expectations for the Cowboys. Until then, there’s no point.

The position I have taken is that the players have to win inspite of the coaches, if they do that and play well
then they can do better than 8-8 but if they can’t then they will be middle of the pack. I agree that it is hard to have any faith in maintaining high expectations from this team; it is hard to believe that it will be different and each week brings a little hope but not much promise. I will continue to watch to see how the games unfold and see how this story plays out.

It's hard to win in spite of the coaches
The coaches decide Witten should block on a first and goal at the Denver 7. Kind of hard to win when your best receiver isn’t doing his thing.

Ass long as there are two head coaches then there will be a problem.
Wade can’t control crap and Garret can’t keep from outsmarting himself. Everyon needs to be on the same page pulling the same direction. I’ve never heard of a “Head” coach who had no freaking idea of what was going on. He should be fired for just uttering the phrase “I don’t know why Barber wasn’t used more” or “I’m not questioning the play calling”. There can only be one Head Coach, and Wade isn’t fitting the bill.

NEWS FLASH: Wade lets his Offensive Coordinator call the shots
NEWS FLASH: The Denver defense doesn’t suck. (we put up 30 on the Giants, 10 on Denver)
NEWS FLASH: Giving up 17 points in that game was NOT a failure by the Defensive Coordinator.
NEWS FLASH: LAST CALL!!! … STANDING ROOM ONLY ON THE SKY-IS-FALLING BANDWAGON!!!!
… Pathetic to have to say, but WAY TOO MANY here sound like a bunch of New Yorkers about 6 weeks before they won their last Super Bowl!!!! (hey, I know how to throw around Texas-sized compliments :)
… I maintain that this is a Super Bowl team working out the early kinks.
… RELAX!!!!!

I'm surprised at the surprise!
I thought it was apparent that JG was in charge of the offense and since BStews departure, Wade moved from defacto to hands on D coordinator. He is also the titular Head Coach.
You can’t ask the guy to be the full time DC and also know every detail of what is going on with the offense… head coach is a full time job, so is defensive coordinator. This is Jerry World, a parallel universe.
Honestly though, you can’t expect Wade to throw Garrett under the bus and second guess his decisions with the press.

Not throw him under the bus, but as HC he should be able to explain the decision.

Questions
1. Why wasn’t MBIII on the field at the goal line? The situtation was perfect for the guy
2. Where was the Double TE Set? Keep MArty B in to block and let Witten go out for a pass
3. Why not throw to Austin when he was wide freking open? If Romo does not trust him, why was he on the field? WHY IS HE ON THE TEAM?
4.Do Garret and Wade talk to each other during the week? During the game? Do they communicate through Jerry?
5. Does anyone else get the sense this team is seriously dysfunctional?

You guys are all whiners. Fans, for sure not. Your week to week on what should be done. Fire Wade, Fire Garret, Bench Romo, Use Felix, Use Witten, Use Choice, This guy that , this guy this. This site drives me nuts with these fans. I wish we could have real fans, who stuck by their team, and only when it is finally over, ask for heads to roll if we are not enamored with how the season went. 4 f%%ing games, and people are freakin out. Did you think Wade would be any different than this, cause if you did, your a jackass. He is who he is, were stuck with him until were not. So stand by your team and let this thing play out

You've only been here for just over a month?
And you’re already not liking the site? The good news is you can get out easily since we’ve only been on a couple of dates. The bad news is, it only gets better when the team starts winning. The opinions vastly vary ‘round here and that won’t change.

Is that you, Jerry?
We’re furious because we watched the game and saw a team on the fast track to nowhere. If you don’t like the conversations on this blog, go somewhere else because you’re in the “all is well” minority.

yeah - i saw that on SI.com too
haters will go crazy….
but really – assuming plays are coming in from the sideline then what did it matter if Romo thought it was 3rd down….
he had already thrown to Hurd on 4th & 3 earlier in the drive (long pass) so you cant say that he wouldn’t have thrown to Hurd had he known it was 4th down

BUT GUESS WHAT
The Denver game is OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is so crazy, it’s Tuesday and I’m still upset. This blog is fraying my nerves up. I’m here in Wichita ya’ll and now some are making me think this is a game the Chiefs could win, dear God in heaven help me if they do. Which they won’t. STOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
The Chiefs can only beat the Broncos. Only them, even in their worst years they always manage to, it’s unbelievable

well - the only advice that i can give you is that i would prepare for a demoralizing loss now...
and if somehow the D can put together another solid performance, Romo can pull up his socks and Choice can have a decent game – then you will be pleasantly surprised

Will Garrett Be Fired With Wade in 4 Months?
I pretty much hate them as coaches at this point. Wade is as clueless as Dave Campo was, and Garrett is an idiot whose been told he’s a genius for too long.

No
I just think that if we’re gonna head in a different direction with the coaching staff, it may be wise to let the new HC bring in who he likes.

But we know that's never going to happen.
I love Jerry as and owner, but we all know that he’s going to bring in who he wants. I’m hard pressed to think the next head coach will have much say on the assistants… which will further limit the head coaching candidates.
Didn’t Jerry hire Garrett before Wade?
by Road Warrior on Oct 6, 2009 11:43 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
All I said, is that there are some good assistants here.
Fire Wade and let the new HC choose if he wants to keep any of the assistants. Firing all of them opens up assistants like Camillis going elsewhere. Unless, we want to pick up Avezzano again. In the end, don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater.

so far he’s easily one of our best coaches

by scandrick32 on Oct 6, 2009 11:08 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The only sense it makes is
Jerry wasn’t going to make that change because everyone (fans and media) wanted one. Even though it was painfully obvious that Wade (and staff) should have been fired, Jerry wasn’t going to be pushed into it…. at least that’s what he said.
Wonder if he now regrets that decision?
