The Cowboys' two-tight end set was supposed to cause matchup problems for defenses. So, after four games, why does Martellus Bennett have only four catches?

"Well, we're still working on it," coach Wade Phillips said Wednesday. "Witten is obviously having a good year like he normally does. Bennett has made a play here and there, and he blocks for us. We're trying to get him more involved, but it's a work in progress."

Some Valley Ranch insiders believe Bennett shouldn't be blamed, although he does have a couple of drops. They say the team isn't calling enough plays for him and that Tony Romo continues to lock onto Witten.

[snip]

"I think I'm a big part of the passing game," Bennett said. "I draw a lot of coverage to the backside to open up other things and confuse the defense. I think I've been doing a great job in that part."

Wade is so freaking clueless

I can’t even listen to his press conferences. He’s either one of the worst communicators to the media in NFL history or he doesn’t even know where he is. Bennett has several drops, but he should be matching up with outside linebackers and destroying them. I’d expect he’d have had at least 12 catches by now…

P.S. I think I’m first.

+1 yeah he is..
Well, we’re still working on it," coach Wade Phillips said Wednesday

Week 16 this will be his same statement….unreal…I hate to say it, but I hope we lose the KC game miserably so Wade gets the boot….Watching or listening to his press conferences is gut wrenching to say the least. One thing I did enjoy about Parcells was his press conferences if anything.

His time is coming

patience is required!

Summarizing the Dallas Cowboys in two words; inconsistently amazing.

I could see something like that coming real soon

if the team loses this week or just eeks by with a win like 10-13 or 20-17 where it took some fluke play for them to win.

WP talking about the Offense makes my head hurt.

Like the Ghost I cannot listen to WP pressers, he makes me uncomfortable, the way he seems to be affected by being front and center with the media; and they know it. WP talking about the offense is a contradiction in terms, he either is playing dumb (I know, oxymoron) or he really does not know what JG is doing.

At the same time, where is JG in all this mess with the two herd passes? The guy hardly talks to the media and has to be willing to be available more to face the music when he is in charge of the offense. If JG does not like the spotlight then how is he going to ever be a head coach?

get him involved

this is the week to work marty b and kevin t

rest marion and roy so we can improve in the rest of the season

a loss this week however, to me, sends this team into a tailspin

only good result is that it would guarantee a new hc next year, and it wouldn’t be Red….

Proctor listed as 2nd team center by WP

Be very afraid. Romo will get hammered.

Nice

of Bennett to say he’s enjoying his role as decoy at least. Pretty mature IMO.

We shouldn't be "still working on it" 1/4 of the way into the season.

That’s what the offseason is for.

Why are you guys blaming Wade. I don't know why he is always the scapegoat for things that are not his fault

blame red headed genius and Romo. They are the culprits. Wade is holding up his end of the bargain with the defense.

Really?

I’m not blaming Wade, but “holding up his end of the bargain with the defense” is kinda strong. Defense is ranked 27th in yards, 29th in yards per play and joint 13th in points allowed. Offense is ranked 4th in yards, 2nd in yards per play and 11th in points scored.

Really? You analysis ignores the improvement made

Anyone who has watched the past two games knows our Defense has made great improvements. Over the past two games our defense have kept opposing offenses to 12 points, and our offense has averaged 15.5 points.

Any reasonable observer who has watched the Cowboys play this year knows that the defense is playing well and the offense is doing sub par. So don’t put the blame on Wade. I don’t know why, but people just love to hate him. And it is absurd.

I was actually yelling...

…‘two TE set, TWO TE SET!!’ at the TV when we were in the endzone… I guess Garrett couldn’t hear me – my neighbors did, though.

...

Heh, it was a good while before that… but with the 7ft 6in passes that were being thrown, I was shocked that they didn’t try and get it out to MartyB in the middle and let him jump for it…
