Why the Boys need to be careful against the Packers
I was doing my usual reading when I ran across this article out about the Packers.
http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/69820142.html
For those that consider this game to be an easy game, I warn you to be careful. What do you guys think? Am I over-reacting or is this a trap game? Give me reasons why the Boys will not over-look the Packers after a tough hard fought game against the Eagles. Remember, the Cowboys have never beaten the Packers at Lambeau Field until last year. Historically, after emotional wins, the Boys come out flat. Why will this week be any different? So let me hear from you why do you think the Boys will win this weekend?

good read!
I agree this is a good reason to expect a battle in green bay.
Great.
Now, they’re gonna be playing their own, personal SuperBowl.
Oh well. A lot of teams do that against Big D.
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles...

Especially Philly
Love it when they can’t even win THAT one.

Good topic Texstar
let’s not get ahead of ourselves and think that because we beat Philly, all of a sudden our problems have gone away. Our problems have not gone away- we have just chased away 1 “ghost”.
I’ll give you 3 reasons for each perspective:
Why we loose to the Packers:
1- We underestimate they’re resolve, go in thinking “we can’t be beat”, forget how hard we worked to get where we are at, and just flat play unmotivated.
2- We play stupid football, forcing unecessary passes, do too many 3 and outs, do not look to eat the clock, and are lulled into a sense of believing that we can take chances and come away with the win.
3- We continue to underestimate using Tashard Choice and Kevin Ogletree MORE.
Why We beat the Packers:
1- Our Pass Rush/ Defense continues to harass offenses and apply pressure on the QB like it has
2- Our CB’s keep playing well and limit Green Bay’s big play ability (like Philly)
3- Our offensive coordintor does something to fool the packers where they don’t expect it and can’t react good enough.
If there was ever a game where we needed to keep the ball away from the opponent offense, this is it. In this 4 game streak, I really haven’t seen alot of attempts by the offense to hurt a defense by running up the middle too much. Establishing that in this game will go far in making the Packers defense react in a way where Witten, Bennet, and RW as well as Austin could have big days. But if Garrett tries to “Outgun” them, we could win, or we may not. It’s hard to tell right now. This game will test the Cowboys resolve to overcome a highly motivated team that isn’t supposed to win, and has nothing to loose- by definition a textbook example of a “trap” game.

Im not too worried about this...

I heard the boys were right back at it after the Eagles game lookin towards the next game. This team seems more focused right now.
There are no easy games in the NFL
I think the team knows this and I would be shocked if they overlooked GB. If they take care of the ball like they have been, they should win this game, but I doubt the players look at this game as “easy”
In Romo we Trust
We match up very well against the Packers
Last year, we crushed them on the ground, rolling up 218 yards. 142 by MBIII, 76 by Felix. No reason we can’t stomp them on the ground again.
We also have a ferocious pass rush and an improving secondary, while the Pack’s line cannot block. Rodgers isn’t going to change his stripes in one game. He’s going to be in the prone position much of the afternoon.
Cowboys also are winning by eliminating mistakes and focusing. No reason for that to change. That should lead to fewer let down games.
We aren’t giving up in one week what we took 4 hard weeks to gain, namely first place in the NFC East.
It's not a gimme by far...
but the main thing I like about this game is that if Dallas plays their best and Green Bay played their best, Dallas is a better team.
I’m also in the boat that Aaron Rodgers is a good QB but he has yet to beat a good defense. I think that if he was playing for Dallas, people would be just as harsh on him as they are on Romo.
I expect Dallas to be able to run effectively against Green Bay and for the short passing game to eat up the defense.

I agree.
The Cowboys should use this matchup as one where they get their ball control offense even more fine-tuned. Get that running game back on beast-track and watch the expletives fly!

we do need to make sure we continue the trend.......
of mistake free football-no interceptions, fumbles etc. I would like to see our running game get back on track. From what I heard on NFLN, Rodgers had a habit of looking for the down field stuff instead of taking what the defense gives him. They showed multiple times where he holds onto the ball instead of dumping it off underneath. If we can take away that underneath stuff, I think we can have a very good day on defense and rack up some more sacks.
WATCH OUT FOR THE CHEESE!
I definetely think this is a trap game!As The “Tuna” used to emphasize to the players by placing mouse traps in the locker room, you have to watch out for the Pack they have lost 2 in a row and will do their best to keep that streak at 2.It always makes me worry when a “cold” team is playing a “hot” team because the tables can turn in a hurry. The Packs D is tough, but is it tough enough to contain Slash,Smash, and Dash?Guess we will have to see. This game will come down to defense and I think the Cowboys will do all the right things to get it done.Lets go Cowboys!
Many times
the reason for a trap game happening, it a little thing called the swollen head syndrome. It occurs mainly when teams or players forget what it takes to win in this league. Player like Brooking and Ware will make sure that focus is maintained . Coach Joe D will have his boys flying.
The thing I don't get about this argument is, who exactly are they overlooking the Packers to get to?
Dallas doesn’t play another “statement” game until the first week of December, at the Giants. In between now and then, the Packers are by far the most dangerous opponent. They’re wounded, playing at home, and sport top ten rankings in both offense (7th) and defense (4th).
I don’t think the Cowboys are looking past the Pack, I think you guys are. Like Philly last year, they’re a team who’s record is worse than their stats, and one who’s capable of beating anyone.
I think if you put two of my best seasons together it wouldn't come up with the numbers he's going to have at the end of the season. -Troy Aikman on Tony Romo
Yeah...
the defensive stats are quite deceiving.
They have good defensive statistics against bad offensive teams and then get killed by good ones.

You keep on telling yourself that.
Me, I refuse to underestimate a talented team playing as an underdog at home.
And I’m pretty sure the players and coaches do to.

Keep telling myself that?
Look at the boxscores. Good teams have scored in the 30’s against them, bad have scored in the 10’s.
I’m not saying that they suck, I’m saying that I don’t think they have that great of a defense.

Furthermore
Great defenses don’t give up 3 TD’s to a rookie QB, on a bad team, in his first start.

I take the Boys at their word when they say they're a focused football team
I don’t think Romo and company were just saying the right things, I think it’s a big part of their mentality this year. This isn’t the same under achieving locker room as the 07 and 08 versions.
I like the way Miles Austin consistently torches the Packers. The last two years in a row he’s had some crucial plays that pretty much decided the games. I understand it’s a new defense, but they pretty much have the same DBs as they did back then. I love the way our D is playing, and Romo’s playing some of the best football of his career.
I do think the Packers are a huge test, but I’m confident they can pull it off. Going into Philly and beating the Eagles was a bigger challenge, imho.
Epic Fail since 1985
I don't think Dallas is taking GB lightly
They have played well against them the last 2 times they’ve met. I expect it to be a close game.
Dallas would seem to have 2 big advantages:
-GB offensive line is not playing well, Dallas has been very good at stopping the run and are capable of getting to the QB from a number of different blitz schemes. I think Rat can win against the interior linemen especially.
-The GB ST unit is even worse than ours was last season. Dallas should win field position battles.
GB has put up good stats on offense despite the problems in the O-line, so I give Rodgers credit for keeping them in games where a less talented QB would be crushed.
He can scramble well, but he is a little banged up from the punishment he’s taken.
They also have Driver and Jennings, who are one of the best tandems of WR’s in the league.
Dallas needs to stop the run, put them in 2nd and long, 3rd and long and get off the field. I don’t think the GB defense is very good, aside from the 2 CB’s and Cullen Jenkins, they don’t have much and are still trying to learn a new defensive scheme.
I feel confident about Dallas moving the ball well, as long as they don’t turn it over they can either run a lot, and eat up the clock, or Romo can pick them apart. Either way.
You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.
Here is why we will win.
1. This team isn’t like the team of the last few years. This team is playing like a TEAM.
2. We are executing plays consistently right now. GB isn’t.
3. The mindset is one game at a time and execute your plays. We are doing exactly that.
4. Offensively, we have more options
5. Defensively, we are getting after people
6. Special teams, huge advantage in field position.
7. Confidence, we have a ton of that right now
8. Healthwise, we are healthier
9. Back to number 1. You can see these players are playing for one another. There is a common goal that you can really sense in this TEAM.
10. Romo doesn’t want to get a haircut. He likes longer hair. Jessica wanted it high and tight, Romo wants it long and loose.
that's funny.....
about the Jessica hair comment.
The thing that scares me a little about Rodgers is his scrambling ability. He is pretty elusive and has a knack for throwing on the run. In fact, he’s more dangerous when he’s outside the pocket than inside. We need to keep him bottled up inside the pocket because if we let him outside, that’s where he is more dangerous (very much like Romo imo).
I actually think that the way Rodgers scrambles...
hurts his team. He starts running out of the pocket way too fast if he doesn’t see a receiver get open.
That’s one of the reasons that Anthony Henry, ANTHONY HENRY had 2 sacks against him.

Yeah but so is mcnabb, if they get contain on the outside and get ratliff getting presssure up the middle rodgers
will go down as well. Very few qbs can handle pressure up the middle.
Ignore the Mainstream Media, EMBRACE THE HATE!!!!
I would just bring pressure on Rodgers constantly........
get him rattled and bumped around a little,.
Trap games come after 2 things,
Over the top emotional highs. This was was that type of game but we went about it with a more business type of attitude. We were pumped and hungry but not emotionally over the top.
We played well but it’s obvious to everyone we can play much better. We know that with Jan sucess this means nothing. We seem focused on our play and execution rather than we are back mentality.
We execute, we win. We seem to get it. I’m no more worried than any other time.
We are also always a type of SB for everyone. All teams get up for us.
KICK ASS every day!!!
