1-7 to finish the 2nd half of the season.
Yes the Cowboys are presently 6-2 and they still have beatable teams left on their schedule (I'm looking at you Oakland and Washington), but they also have some competent teams like the Giants/Saints/Chargers. While I am normally an optimist, the pre-season prediction made by Emmitt Smith is inescapable. 7-9.
What would be worse is if the Cowboys beat the Packers this weekend. I don't think I could handle 7 straight losses. But I guess it could be said that preseason predictions are absolutely worthless, especially coming from a source that was widely ridiculed as having very little football acumen, as a commentator.
I would one day like to see in a preseason prediction, a tie. Till then, most predictions are worthless, even the ones for the following week.

Emmitt has been quiet lately...
He really threw Wade and Romo under the bus before the season.

That he did. Actually I didn't see anyone predicting they would be better than 10-6,
And most were in that 9-7 and 8-8 range. So there are many mea culpas coming due.

There were some 11-5 predictions out there
including Randy Galloway believe it or not… he’s looking more prescient by the week lol

I like Galloway.
I have reservations about some of the other writers, but Galloway I usually can see his point, even if I don’t agree with it.

That's a good way of putting it.

Ummm, they may still be 9-7
I count my eggs one per week.
Especially considering how lucky they’ve been w /injuries.
E.g., what if Romo’s gone for the year, or 4 games? What if they lose 4-5 key players, maybe 2 OLinemen? It could happen.

You can't be serious!!
The only way this team finishes the season at 1-7 is if Romo, Ware, Ratliff and Austin go down on IR and I mean all 4, the only way.
Personally, I see the the worst case scenario is us finishing at 4-4.

I think 11-5 is quite reasonable at this point. We really should win both WAS games and vs. OAK. I know these division games are unpredictable and I usually predict a split, and WAS might bounce back by the end of the season, but they are just so bad this year that I see it very unlikely we drop either of those games. That’s 9 wins. And I think it’s realistic to expect to pick up at least 2 of the remaining 5 games, probably GB and one of the NYG, SD and PHI (at home).

While we are breaking down the schedule...
I see us standing toe to toe with Green Bay and saying, I must break you Ivan Drago style, and subsequently breaking Rodgers for the remainder of the season.
Sure we should win both Washington games, but I’m not sure that will happen. Hopeful, but they always seem to care, regardless of how bad they are. Of course we return the favor when we are awful.
Oakland… I can’t believe Russell has made it this far into the season as QB. It’s just astounding. He can’t play the position. I’m concerned that if you gave him a ps3 and Madden, he would run a single wing offense.
I’m not sure about the Giants, they will probably be healthy in their secondary by the time we play them. I think we will win, but I wouldn’t be the house on it.
Chargers, I’m going to mark that down as a win.
New Orleans. Nope… want to beat them, but I don’t see our defense snuffing out their passing game. The run game, no problem, but I see Brees vivasecting us, which is just disturbing.
And Philly… hopefully we will be resting players in anticipating for our bye, but I think we will be playing for something in this game. I see us winning, but that really depends on whether Philly is in one of their malaises or not. I swear to you, they are the most schiztophrenic teams ever. They really need to take some lithium.

We can, but we'll need a near perfect game from our pass defense
and Tony will probably have to win a shootout, even so, or we’ll have to tote the rock and burn the clock. Can the New Orleans OL be had (honest question)? I’d really like to get past them for a first round bye in the playoffs. This is the old SF-Dallas game for 92-95 reborn.

I know sarcasm doesn't translate well in text....
But are yall seriously not able to see the tone of the post. No… I’m saying Emmitt was so incredibly wrong, but the entire freaking national media treated it like it was gospel and so not only is Emmitt in the wrong, but so were every person who cited him as corroberation for their own flawed opinion on how the Cowboys would do.
I have a pre-season prediction by Don Banks before the 2008 season, and it reads like a parody designed to be hilarious. Sure it’s 2.5 months late, but I’m essentially throwing all prognostications under the bus.

Well, it's not really 2.5 months late.
you had to wait until the ’Boys proved him and them inaccurate.
I never could figure it out: was Emmitt just woofin’, psyching the ‘Boys? Did he really think that they’d be 7-9, or did he say that to try and goad them into proving he was wrong?
He sort of has that as an “out”.

Maybe we lose to New Orleans, a Saturday night game right before Christmas. Maybe lose one of the Washington games. Maybe Philly beats us because its hard to sweep in our division (hope not since that’s right before the playoffs).
We beat the Giants in New York. We beat San Diego at home.

my 2 cents...
Barring major injury : 11 – 5 (5-3 for remainder…drop 3 to Eagles, Saints (god I’m looking forward to that one), and giants/chargers. 10- 6 should make the playoffs..but 11-5 would appear to be a division winner
With major injury: 10-6 .. I think injury hurts us in one more game… 9-7 would be a possibility but.. lets say Romo goes down.. Kitna could beat Wash x 2, Oaktown, GB without too big of a sweat..
I hate writing these words… Romo goes down but with the depth we have at other positions that would be the only major loss that would take us out of contention with most any team in the league. Offensive line troubles could really hurt as well but I think Romo can make up for those holes if necessary..

I dunno'...
If we had to deal with the makeshift line Rodgers has to, we may be looking WAY worse. It’s a miracle they’re .500 right now.
We had rough luck last year. I hope our good fortune stays with us. We were shat on last year as far as injuries go, so this year the football gods will smile upon us.

If Romo goes down, Kitna can win a game or 2. If any of Davis, Gurode, or Kosier go down, we will be in big trouble. Last year proved we can’t win with Cory Proctor playing any significant time.

The key to defeating the Saints will be a healthy Barber and Felix.
Did you see how DeAngelo Williams clowned them last week during the first half of that game? Of course, if you give them any gifts and dig yourself a hole early, it won’t matter how well you run the ball. But the Saints are suddenly unbeatable? Hardly.

Im not going to believe...
We can be beat until I see it happen…I am tired of listening to the media put us down continually…We worked hard to get where we are…Weve done what we need to do…You can say what you want but here is my theory, and I hope someone can prove me wrong cause it is how I see this team this year…We play to the strength of our opponent…By this I mean, if we win, it is not because we are given any game by any means…I think back to the KC OT game, and it definitely confirms what i have been saying…We played a team that by all intents and purposes we should have beat in the first, second or third Qrt…but we didnt for the exact reason i am saying…Their strength was that they came into the game with nothing to loose, and they damn near didnt…But Dallas got their A-game, because had they beaten us, I believe they very well could have used that, as we did, to build on the success of their team…maybe, maybe not…No way do we lose to Philthy in Dallas again…No way do we lose to Narlins, or NYG…I will not believe we cannot win…No way, no how…FEAR THE STAR

12-4 or 11-5 assuming no major injuries
And yes, I just knocked on wood. The way I see it, we should be 9-2 going into the NYG game as long as the Cowboys practice what they preach about taking every game very seriously. From there, I really think we win the NY game. The Giants are beatable; it was evident in the first game that the Cowboys could handle the Giants if they stopped making self-inflicted wounds. And now, with Phillips gone for the Giants, I think we win that game with a strong offensive showing. Next up is San Diego. This game is a tough one, but I think the Cowboys can beat the Chargers. The Chargers are weak up the middle (26th against the run) and rely heavily on the pass to do damage to teams. To me, I believe we can have success running the ball on them and keeping our defense rested to get after Rivers and play them similar to how we played Philly.
At this point, I think the Cowboys winning streak ends. The Saints scare me with their ability to throw the ball, but even more than that, I think it will be tough to go into the Superdome on a short week and keep up with the Saints. The Cowboys certainly have the potential to beat the Saints if they run the ball effectively and get in the face of Drew Brees (the key to stopping him is a rush up the middle not on the outside), but I just don’t see it working out right that night. I definitely think the Cowboys could win a potential rematch in the playoffs, but I just don’t have a good feeling about the week 15 game.
After that, the season pretty much takes care of itself. I believe we drop Washington easily because they simply aren’t talented enough to keep with us. By this point, I believe that week 17 will not mean much. We will have the division wrapped up more or less and depending on what Minny does, we will be in prime position for a bye week. Meanwhile, I see the Eagles trying to secure a playoff spot in that final week and beating us in a desperation game. I would love to sweep the Eagles, but I just don’t think that happens this year.
All in all, I see our record at 12-4 by the end of the season. That will definitely mean a home playoff game and perhaps even a bye week depending on how Minny does. And while this may not be the dream scenario, it is important to remember that in 3 out of the last 4 years the Super Bowl Champion has played on Wild Card Weekend. This isn’t to say that the Cowboys should shoot for a wild card, but just a reminder that all that really matters is getting into the playoffs.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.
