We've only begun to fight, and we've got a secret weapons

Mike McCarthy says Dallas is the best and most balanced offense they will have played to date. When Skp and JJT were debating the Vikings/Cowboys Skip whom I dislike said to JJT that he would take Witten, Austin, and our three running backs over Peterson and Harvey. He then said Dallas had more depth than that. And that got me to thinking.

"More" Last year half way through the season I could almost call the play that was going to be run. This year I'm surprised every week by a formation or player. The first few weeks it was a power running game, then it was a two tight end set that morphed into a three tight end set, and then there was Austin, and now there is Ogletree. We saw the Razorback and flanker screens this last week for the first time. There seems to be something new every week.

Skip is right, (uggggh) this team can line up with three tight ends and run over you, it can line up four wide and shoot it out with you, if you have a weakness the cowboys can exploit it.

The secret really isn't that secret, all of training camp the word was Bennett and Jones. We were installing offense around these two new weapons. Bennett has been a force in the running game and Felix has seen spot duty but nothing like we thought we would see. The secret is we've yet to see any of the offense they were working on in training camp, there is more to come.

Good point

I cant wait to see what tomorrow will bring. Its hard to gameplan for something you have never seen us run before. This is the type of play calling and strategy that we are paying JG the big bucks for. He has earned it so far this season. Except for a few inept games, i.e. Chiefs game.

Good Luck Pack D… Ur gonna need it!

you guys are definitely

more well rounded than in years past. I was VERY surprised to see Choice lined up in the Wildcat against us last week.

With that said, I think you’re probably wrong with your assertion:

we’ve yet to see any of the offense they were working on in training camp

This sounds like the people still waiting for us Eagles to break out that HUGE wildcat package for Michael Vick that we heard so much about.

"What did it feel like? That collision, I didn't feel nothing, because he was pretty much defenseless. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."- Sheldon Brown on his pounding of Reggie Bush in the '06 Playoffs

jalar,

Dallas in camp was running Bennet’s legs off on deep seam routs and such, not one deep pass to him yet. Dallas installed a whole screen package for Felix and we haven’t really seen that yet either. The difference between Vick and these two guys is these two guys are going to be good, Vick was good.

If he's healthy

Westbrook strike me as a great wildcat candidate. The guy is scary good.

Looks like the TO hangover is wearing off

Hard for JG to be this creative when hes forced to focus on 1 player. Props to Garret

Good observation Norm

the ‘Balanced Offense’ is a topic in my nuggets for next week, but here’s a little pointer: There are two other teams with a similarly balanced offense: The Saints and the Colts. Scary, scary, scary.

Hope I didn’t just jinx our game tomorrow …

I just wished for once...

That you guys would get real with this…I will say it now, and everytime we play another team…I DO NOT BELIEVE IN jynxes, hexes, and gnomes from the Garden, interupting our games or interfering in them…I believe in one thing and one thing only…Smash
Mouth football, just like we been playing…TO has no more part in the DEallas memory, cause he was an experiment that turned out just as predictable as everyone said it would…Now that he is thankfully gone, I do not believe that he in any way has any further effect on this Cowboys team…One thing is for certain, and I will say if for once and all…this team can beat by only one other team in the NFL…that is themselves…FEAR THE STAR

Let's not exaggerate about our offense

We scored 20 points last week.

This isn’t the Saints offense we are talking about.

They are more diverse (not really balanced) than in the past, but this offense, as it is today, is not elite by any stretch of the imagination.

"Emotion is highly overrated in football. My wife Corky is emotional as hell but can't play football worth a damn."

- John McKay, the first coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

20 points indeed but

when we needed to run we did,

when we needed to pass, we did,

the saints air it out, do they have a running game? The colts? I’d say we are more balanced and that does not mean we are not going to score more points.

I’d rather be a balanced team than having an all out air attack.

The Saints actually have a great running game

You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.

Elite is such a subjective designation...

I don’t know if I would call this offense “elite,” but they are pretty darn good. They haven’t dropped fifty on anyone and may never score like the Saints, but we are running an extremely efficient and balanced offense that is up there with the likes of the Colts and the Saints. It may not look as pretty or be as explosive, but it gets results that would suggest it is in the top 5 of the league.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Well, nobody is in the Saints league.

They even average a full TD more than the 2nd league’s highest scoring team (Minnesota.)

However I take issue with this little snippet………

“Is not elite by any stretch of the imagination.”

They average 27 points a game. I guess that’s just merely okay; 27 points a game. Whatever. They’re averaging as many points as any of the ’90s Super Bowl Champion Cowboys teams. By the way, how did the last two teams that broke the single-season scoring record fare in the actual playoffs?

by MadMick on Nov 14, 2009 3:41 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I would call it balanced in the sense that

they are able to make the big plays as well as grind it out on long drives. I think the long drives have been problematic in the recent past, so when good teams and bad weather showed up, they lost their offensive punch a little.

the real question is...

who the hell likes Skip Bayless?

a “no comment” on that question last week. Just sayin…
