Green Bay Game - They beat us fair and square
I have been reading a lot of posts about bad calls, our penalties and sacks as if we beat ourselves. We did commit mistakes, but a lot of those were caused by the Green Bay offense and defense.
Green Bay beat us every which way. Consider this, Green Bay was sacked 4 times and had 12 penalties vs. our 5 sacks and 10 penalties. They overcame all of that, forced 3 turnovers and beat us. We forced no turnovers and did'nt do squat. Aaron Rogers converted first down after first down in their first touchdown drive, with two third down's over 10 yards. Aaron Rogers was on and Tony Romo was off. Romo could not find the blitzers and he paid for it.
The Cowboys had 140 meaningless yards after it got to be 17-0 and 7:30 of possession time. That means with 10:00 minutes left in the 4th quarter, we had accumulated 130 yards, 17 minutes of possession time and only 27 plays. They kicked our butts good. We were outscheemed, out hustled and they executed.Once they went up 10 to nothing, we seemed to fall apart further. If you look at our last 12 month losses, the Boy's seem to be front runners. Get behind and it is curtains.
I think the good thing out of this is this came against Green Bay and not against a division opponent. It also shows some more flaws that we have so they can be worked on. Washington is a good defensive team and they will be taking notes. Dallas was playing conservative on both sides of the ball and they are not good enough to do so against a good team.

Agree
This has been the first loss of the season where I feel it wasn’t our fault. Props to the Green Bay defense.
2009 Dallas Cowboys: 10-6
2009 New York Jets: 11-5?
2009-2010 Dallas Mavericks: 57-25
Yep
they just got beat, plain and simple. I’d rather lose to a team like GB than lose to a team like the Raiders or TB. No shame, i think.
agreed for the most part
but this crap effects games. it’s not so much that the Felix Jones recovery could not be reviewed, it was that he was so obviously down and had possesion of the ball in the first place, that play never should have continued in the 1st place, momentum is big in these games, and that play just really killed us. Say we just punt there….chances are it’s a two possesion game coming down the stretch, which is a whole new game.
I’m not trying to make excuses, we were outplayed and deserved to lose for what we did and didn’t do in the 2nd and 3rd quarter., but you don’t need refs making it worse, while Green Bay was penalized more, I can’t really think of a bad call against them, maybe one of the holdings was iffy, but we were jobbed twice….once very bad (Jones play) and on them failing to call a penalty on Green Bay for the “extra challenge” we were actually moving the ball, that “timeout” gave green bay a chance to regroup, who knows how that effected things?
anyway, i know it sounded like I blame the refs, and I really don’t, the mental mistes we made in picking up the blitz is the main reason we lost, combined with an untimely mistake or two by Romo and RW.
you think our offensive playcalling was conservative? i would have called it desperate and predictable. i would have liked to see a trick play in there at some point. also they only forced 2 turnovers and we forced 1 if the refs would have called a the fair game that you were privileged to witness. again, maybe we were watching different games but almost the entire first half their offensive line was holding our front 7 but it was rarely called. and yea i know theres holding on every play but im talking the you got beat so the only thing u got left to do is to hold or your qb is gonna get it.
agreed about the play calling
Green Bay was blitzing just as often as Philly. Difference is in Philidelphia we had more bubble screens, RB screens and slants. It seemed like Romo was looking down field too long waiting for the big play and there was no half time adjustments (except to run less).
I agree that GB played very well
and certainly deserved the win, but that being said, we still beat ourselves with turnovers and penalties.
If we don’t lose the turnover battle, we win the game, simple as that.
In Romo we Trust
Worse than any call the refs made or didn't make
Were the following – 1. RW fumbling on a huge gain
2. Not being able to punch it in from the 1 yard lind
3. RW letting the ball hit him in the face.
Those were three huge momentum swings at points where we were still squarely in the game. The refs may have had pigeon crap in their eyes but Dallas refused to take any of the multiple opportunities they had.
don't forget about the fumble we recovered
after sacking Rodgers that was nullified by Jenkin’s penalty.
In Romo we Trust
Yeah we could do this all day
I’m with you Terry, I think the cowboys beat themselves with an assist from the refs. Green bay isn’t going anywhere this year with that O line.
We missed a lot of opprotunities
They played very sloppy as well, they were even penalized more then we were. The heat was on Romo all day, they did a great job of dialing up pressure on him.
I agree
HOWEVER….the way to stop teams from blitzing is to beat the blitz. We had two PERFECT opportunities to do this early in the game. If we do that, I kinda doubt GB is going after Romo full speed. Add in that we missed a chip shot of a fg…
BECAUSE we didn’t make plays we should’ve made, GB outplayed us. But really…if we make plays these guys make 80% of the time, this game is very tight at the least. Our defense was DOMINANT yesterday before they wore down
Very Well Put
Around 1992 or 1993, when the offensive line got their act together, teams stopped blitzing us. It was just too risky. Aikman would hit Irvin in stride on a slant, and if he broke that tackle, it was a long gain, often a touchdown. Teams eventually just gave up and slid back into straight up schemes, because when they blitzed the yards would pile up at a terrifying rate.
We’ve not been able to master the blitz since about 1995 or so, give or take a few years. The line is slow to recognize blitzes, Romo is getting better but still holds on to the ball too long, and Garrett cannot resist the siren song of seven step drops. That’s a formula for disaster against blitzes. Until we improve in those three areas and make defenses pay, teams are going to come after us.
I disagree with one thing
Romo played fine. His O-line let him down all day though.
